He’d been coasting for years, and all of a sudden he was having difficulty, and the praise that he’d enjoyed from parents and teachers dried right up. So he tried harder, but it wasn’t enough. Phil tried to find something that he enjoyed, some subject or field he hadn’t tried before. He tried just about everything. Tae Kwon Do (only got to green belt), carpentry, electronics repair, fixing cars, playing instruments, but none of it clicked. Eventually he realized that he liked role playing, making a world with others and seeing it breathe. He got into it when he attended a D&D group at around 17, and ran with the hobby while he worked odd jobs to make ends meet. He hasn’t been in contact with the group since he moved about a year ago, and doesn’t really have many friends to call on. He’s been taking any work he can get, and with his birthday coming up in a few days…

In a way, the zombie apocalypse is the best birthday present he could get. He’s been surviving for so long… now it’s time to live.
