Sophia wandered along the darkening forest as she searched for the familiar path that would lead her back home. She felt the first real tendrils of fear as she passed by a large, knarled oak tree...the same exact one she passed by nearly an hour ago. As she realized she had been walking in circles she stopped and looked around, trying her best to remain calm and to get her bearings. Yet, the sudden feral roar of an animal in the distance, defeated her efforts and she began to run as panic threatened to consume her.

She didn't know how long she ran for or in which direction when a cramp in her side forced her to stop by a swift moving stream. She dropped to her knees and pulled her long blond hair away from her face as she scooped up a handful of water and drank it down greedily. After quenching her thirst, she stood up and gasped in surprise at the sight before her.

A huge castle stood just over a small hill in front of her. She knew she'd never seen it before but as the sky was quickly fading to night, she was relieved that she might find someone to help her there.

It didn't take her long to cross over the hill and make her way to the massive wooden doors of the dark and gloomy castle where she hesitantly knocked and waited for someone to answer..... "Hello? Is anyone home..?"

Upon the bronze colored doors being knocked, it creaks ajar rather loudly. The doors stood at about 10 feet high and 5 feet wide with an intricate vine like pattern along it. A force seemed to drag her inside of the dark manor. The moment she is inside the doors shut violently behind her.

A shadowy figure appears before her. “Good evening madam…you have arrived just on time. My name is Disacol and I am the butler and doorman of this mansion.” Disacol picks up a small lantern and lights it. The shadowy figure is reveal to be a young man in a tuxedo. The young man has slicked back, black hair and black eyes. A long scar reaches across his left eye. “The master has been expecting you for dinner Sophia.” The man smiles at her with his eyes closed. “Please walk this way.” He walks down the mostly pitch-black hallway, other than the small light held by the butler.

The hallways seemed to cry with misery much like that of a haunted house but this was far from one. For the reasons alone there was no way out and the misery was for real. The walls showed numerous portraits of a man, most likely the owner of the home.

“The master has been expecting you for dinner Sophia.”

So relieved to be in from out in the frightening night, Sophia hardly noticed her surroundings...until the butler, Disacol, she believed he said his name was, called her by name. She stopped despite the sudden realization that she was surrounded by darkness, the faint glow of his lantern providing the only light by which to see by.

"B....but, how do you know my name?" she asked, then she continued, " and...y...you said The M...master has been expecting...me? How can that be? I've never been here before, I do not know this master of whom you speak.."

Disacol continues to lead her along the dark hallway, acting as her only light. “Why of course you know the master. It was he who invited you here.” He tells her confidently. “ Would you like me to lead you to your room? It can give you a bit of time to freshen up before dinner.” The butler offers her a place to sleep and a meal right away. He stops at a large staircase with a red carpet reaching up to the steps.

Sophia was thoroughly and utterly confused. Wouldn't she remember if she'd met someone before? she thought to herself, but found that she was too exhausted to think on it further at the moment.

“ Would you like me to lead you to your room? It can give you a bit of time to freshen up before dinner.”
" Yes....yes, I would like that very much. Thank You." she replied. He was being so very kind to her and she felt rather bad for rudely questioning him before. Afterall, she was the one who just showed up, on their doorstep, in desperate need for assistance. Where would she be if she had been turned away?

"Be careful these stairs can be fairly steep." He warns her quickly. "This way miss Sophia." Disacol now leads her up the long stairs. Now on the second floor he walks to the second door to the right, opening the door for her. "This is your room. As for the darkness, your eyes will adjust to it...If you wish there is another lantern for you to use." He informs her quickly, pointing to the lantern inside of her room."I will grant you my farewell for now miss Sophia. Dinner will be in half an hour."He leaves a moment later into the shadows.

She was suddenly alone again in an unfamiliar and very dark place- her thoughts went back to the fear she felt in the forest. Don't be silly, Sophia...you are an adult not a child! she thought to herself as she slowly and very carefully made her way across the cavernous but well appointed room to turn on the lantern.

After finally getting the lantern lit, she looked around the room and was in awe at the beauty she found there. It was so different than what she'd seen of the rest of the mansion, it seemed almost feminine...as if a woman had decorated it herself.

She felt so tired and decided to lay down on the huge four poster bed for just a bit before it was time for dinner, she had no intentions of falling asleep....but she did anyway.....

As Sophia had entered the room it was natural to want to look around for a moment. The room did have a different air about it than the rest of the house. Other than the small light from the lantern, there was the moon to light the room glaring through the large Victorian window.

She seemed to fall asleep quiet quickly. The moonlight shining on her face soon becomes obstructed by a tall figure. The tall figure appeared to be another man, who stares out of the window. A loud howl is heard from the hallways, and it echoes throughout the house.

Sophia suddenly sat up on the bed where she had apparantly fallen asleep. An eery sound that strangely sounded like a wolf's howl broke the silence that surrounded her. And what was perhaps even more frightening was that it sounded as if it came from inside the castle.....not far from this very room!

With wide, panicked eyes that hadn't yet adjusted to the pitch blackness around her, she used the light of the moon that shone in through the window to look around at the shadows that lurked in the corners of the large room. She jumped when out of the corner of her eye, she saw one of those shadows move. Her hand flew to her mouth to cover up the scream she felt in her throat as she cowered back towards the massive headboard.

"Wh...who's th....there?" she whispered.

“Well, our guest awakens!” The shadow states aloud. Within a moment, the figure snaps his fingers and the room became greatly illuminated. This sudden change in light would cause anyone to close his or her eyes for at least a second or two. With that given second the shadow appeared next to her, face to face. The shadow had finally taken a shape. It was a man with long pitch-black hair and golden eyes. The man appeared to be in his early twenties. “We wouldn’t want you falling asleep during dinner, so its best you got at least a moment to sleep.” The man grins at her.

Unable to hide the shock from her voice, she stammered, " Who....who are you?" He was a large, powerfully built man with the most hypnotic golden eyes she'd ever seen. Just looking briefly into their depths made her feel strangely mesmorized.

Her shock gave way to curiousity however, as she waited for his reply...

A wide grin spreads across his face. “Have you forgotten me so quickly? I am the master of this home, who else would I be?” He asks her closing his eyes half way. Even if she had left before it was unlikely that it was to happen again. He stares back deeply into her eyes. “Are you ready for supper?” With that last question he slides back from the bed to the standing again.

Feeling more confused than ever, she quietly nodded her head and moved slowly from the bed.

As he escorted her down the dimly lit hallway to the dining room, she said, " I...I was in the forest today and....and I somehow lost my way home. Then it began to get dark and I was so frightened by the howling of fierce, wild animals that I began to run. I ran until I came upon your castle.....Thank You for taking me in, I don't know what I'd have done otherwise."

His golden eyes stay locked on hers.""Its a good thing you came back as you did. You were justified to be scared. This forest at night is no place for a woman like yourself." His grin seems to be plastered onto his face. "I’m so glad you found your way back...or the animals would be making ...full use of you." The two soon walk downstairs and into the dinning room. Here they are greeted with a table filled with plates and trays of high quality food. Disacol appears again and pulls back the chair for Sophia. The master of the house walks to the opposite side of the short rectangular table. Disacol quickly prepares a cup of wine for her.

Sophia was once again confused by his continued comments about her coming "back" and wasn't sure what he could possibly mean by it? Had they gotten her confused with someone else? Surely, that had to be it.

Her stomach growled and she blushed with embarrassment, but the truth was she hadn't eaten in quite a while. " This looks wonderful! she said as she took in the delicious food around the table.

"You must be starving. So please dig in." The man keeps his smile on her before he turns his attention to his dinner. Before him was a steak with a tad of parsley on the side. It was only a second until he began to eat. Cutting the tender meat almost effortlessly. The meat seemed to be rare -medium rare. Sophia’s was prepared the same way.

After a rather quiet and somewhat uncomfortable dinner, she asked her host what the main form of communication was that they used here at the castle, as she wanted to somehow let her family know that she was o.k.

She didn't want to overstay her welcome and knew she needed to start planning on her return...besides, she found their behavior towards her rather disconcerting.
