Digital Dungeons:
Either in the privacy of your own home, or in Digital Lounges throughout the city, players utilize Digital Rooms for online play. These are primarily empty rooms covered in bright CGI green screens, with a large projection screen covering the entire forward facing wall.
In the middle of the room is suspended animation gear, with a large computer behind. The ceiling is a library shelf of different gaming worlds. On the right is typically an entrance and on the left is an exit door.
Each Player is usually equipped with a hard drive "bag" and a weapon holster on each hip. A user is dressed in a gray spandex suit studded with motion capture markers. They also wear smart lenses and a "head rig", a tight life cast helmet and a laser scan equipped with a carbon fiber arm holding four tiny cameras and little LED lights less than a foot away from the players face. The user's eyes and facial expressions are recorded via 52 Motion capture dots drawn on the face. A user may also utilize a pitch modulator to change their voice within gameplay.
This is the way Players control their avatars.
Create a Character in CGI Marketplace
Begin by submitting 2D Concept art in an animation ready file, rotating 30 frames per second to map out character into model, or by submitting a clay manikin model to 3D Scan into a high density file.
3D Polygons and 3D verses create shape and mass of this subject.
Export as a model to create Mesh out of high poly into 3D.
Create texturing phase by mapping out coordinates into 2D space.
Paint with airbrush details, light reaction material.
Render 2D coordinates onto 3D model.
Add accessories, clothes, hair, or any particle effects (such as snakes for hair or a constant stream of drool).
Create bone structure animation.
It is in this way each character comes to life within the Digital Realm.
Each player controls their character within Digital Rooms. However, in the real world, characters wear their gaming gear and carry mobile gaming consoles throughout their everyday lives, and local franchises have both digital and natural wares for purchase.

Backstory:
In the year 2020, the world is knocked back into the dark ages by a massive electromagnetic pulse. No one is certain if it was an act of God or man, but all electronics were rendered useless and the expected apocalyptic fear response broke out. Some argued that it was caused by a massive geomagnetic storm created by coronal mass ejections (or solar flares), others claimed one of Earth's maniacs or tyrannical leaders dropped an EMP Bomb to destroy the planet as we knew it... Whatever happened, that blast wave bent and snapped the magnetic field lines of our planet. This wasn't the first time it had happened... We learned this lesson the hard way during the 1859 Carrington Event. That's when our then-newfangled electrical systems shocked telegraph operators, shot sparks out of pylons, and lit papers on fire.
These twenty-first century aberrant currents overloaded, destructed and fried out all our most coveted modern technologies, including satellites and cellphone communication. Witnesses account to seeing a gigantic ball of flames hundreds of miles in the distance. Scientists today claim that we could expect this magnitude of solar activity once every one- to two-hundred years...
Within hours, mild radiation sickness took over: vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue... Exposure to lethal doses led to a 10-35% drop in the population within a month, beginning with rapid hair loss and ending in heart failure. The Earth suffered nuclear winter, and the whole world just went bananas without their Edison pacifiers of choice. As the radiation cleared, the much anticipated looting and rioting took place. Crime and general anarchy reigned steadily for its time before subsiding into order. During that time, populations plummeted, nations combined, copper wires and precious minerals were stripped and smelted, and the world fell into a currency of metals for its day. (Metallic currency is still used, but primarily the world runs on RFID bits within a New Digital Age.) Various stages of recovery swept the world into a Tesla-like Utopian Nation of wireless free energy and data.
