Bouncing on her toes in excitement, Aeryn watched at the thrift store manager took a particularly old amulet
from the jewelry case, holding it aloft so that Aeryn could see it better. It looked extremely old, burnished
copper with hand carved swirls and designs on it. Two leather thongs held both pieces together. The manager
had said that it was an old Native American friendship necklace, and Aeryn could think of no better gift for her
best friend's birthday. she knew that Jen loved old artifacts, and this seemed perfect. Something they could
both wear when they went away for college. They had been together throughout grade school, it was hard to
believe that they weren't going to be together for college, but Aeryn had gotten a scholarship for soccer, and
doubtless Jen would go to some big fancy university. She had always been the smarter of the two, while
Aeryn was the outdoorsy, play sports all day sort.
And today was Jen's eighteenth birthday. Being the procrastinator that she was, Aeryn had waited the day of
to look for a gift. Oh well, it worked out well. The manager has said that they had only just gotten the amulet
in. So she wouldn't have been able to get her best friend such an awesome gift if she had gone earlier. Yeah.
That's what she told herself. Not procrastinating at all. Just selectively looking for the perfect gift.
Aeryn paid for the necklace, stuffing a few crumbled dollars in the manager's hands and ambled out the door.
Aeryn was a laid back kind of girl. Unless she was playing soccer, she was unfocused; her head always in the
clouds. Everyone was used to it, though it did get on her teacher's nerves back in high school. Most of them
were furious when she had passed her exams with flying colors. She had always been the one who never
finished homework, came in late for classes, and slept during class. An average C student as far as anyone
could tell. No one had thought she would pass her last year of high school, since her grades were getting to be
so terrible, but she had passed the exams top in her class. Jen was a year behind her, though she was easily
the smartest girl in that school. Some wondered if Jen hadn't taken the test for Aeryn, but that was impossible.
Humming tunelessly, Aeryn made her way to Jen's house. They had planned a movie night weeks ago, just the
two of them. It was sort of a tradition with them. Every year since they were five, they've always slept over
at each others house and watched Disney movies all night long. It never seemed to get old, no matter how
old they got. She stopped to grab a tub of ice cream and some sodas. Twice a year when she allowed herself
to eat junk food. Her own birthday, and Jen's. Junk food never tasted so good as when you haven't eaten it
for nearly half a year. She pulled up in Jen's driveway, locking up her beat up old Camaro, and strolling up to
the door, ice cream and soda loaded in her arms.
"Yo, Jen! Open up," she shouted, kicking the bottom of the door a few times.

Jen was having a get together with her best friend and her family was throwing her a party that weekend. So she spent all day cleaning up the house emostly her room for the fun movie night and getting snacks ready of course.
She walked around the house in her back shorts and an old camo teeshirt she got from a past birthday and oddly still fit in. She was wearing slippers and trying to get her laundry downstairs and started at least all this week she'd gotten behind on her chores thanks to school letting out and her birthday coming.
She had just reached the top of the stairs fromt he basement when she heard her friend call out. She raced over and opened the door and giggled "Hey brought the whole store with you I see?" She laughed and looked to her recently getting contacts and still keeping her glasses she could bare to part with them.
"Come on in the bedroom is ready for movie night." She opened the door more to let her in and smiled wondering what her friend had gotten her this year it was always something she'd never forget.

Aeryn grinned at her friend and stepped inside, kicking off her shoes as soon as she got in the
door. She didn't want to track dirt in the house. Jen's mom always seemed to be anal about that. While Aeryn
knew that Jen's mom loved her, she always knew that the woman was OCD when it came to cleaning. Probably
where Jen got it. "Just about," she laughed, moving to set down the bags on the table. She knew this house as
well as her own and quickly put away the ice cream and soda in the refrigerator. Once done, she crossed the
room in three stride and caught Jen up in an enormous hug, lifting her off her feet and swinging her around in a
circle.
"Happy birthday, Jen!" she said, laughing loudly and setting her friend back down. "You're no longer jailbait.
Congrats." Aeryn grinned down at Jen, white teeth flashing against her dark skin. In appearance and
personality, Jen and Aeryn were as different as night and day. Aeryn was half Native American and was
naturally dark skinned, being out in the sun all the time didn't help either. Her green eyes she had inherited
from her mother, who was Irish. It was an odd combination, but Aeryn never doubted that her parents were
deeply and completely in love. They had met, ironically, at a casino. Her father had been the black jack
dealer.
Slinging her arm around Jen's shoulders, she steered her into the bedroom and pushing her down on the bed.
Grinning ear to ear, Aeryn stepped back and, with a flourish of her arm, made a regal bow fit for any
courtroom. Aeryn was always known for her extravagance, if only for Jen. "And now, my fair maiden, your
gift!" From her jean's pocket she pulled the amulet out and held it up, letting it dangle from her fist in front
of Jen's face. "One piece is for you. The other, for me. So we have something to remember each other when
we go off to college." She untangled the leather straps and gave one to Jen, tying the other around her own neck.

She smiled and saw her watching her take off her shoes then slip in and put everything away and was glad to have her here.She squeaked as she was pulled off the floor and hugged giggling and hugging her back.
She smiled and giggled again as she was sat down "Yeah I'm so thrilled finalyl I can get a real man." She laughed and shook her head the girl was a pale white both parents where from the states she'd forgetten their backgrounds for the moment but her dad divorced her mom when she was young so she was used to being just the girls.
She smiled and let her friend sling an arm around her and lead her into her room and sat down. The bow made her giggle and smiled then a gasp as she saw her gift. "Wow it's awesome! Thank you thank you!" She held the other piece and hugged her friend "It's so cool." She put the piece on herself and squeaked happily.
Smiling, Aeryn sat crossed-legged on the floor, watching her friend look over her gift. She was glad that Jen liked
it. The girl was difficult to shop for, but usually anything old was appreciated. She leaned back and looked
through Jen's movies, searching for her collection of Disney movies. They were easy enough to find. Bottom
shelve, all in a neat little row. "So whatcha wanna watch first?" she asked, finger running along the spines of the
cases. A particular one caught her eye. Pocahontas. That was one they both enjoyed immensely. She pulled it
from the shelf and waved it towards Jen. "This one?"
She watched her look threw the Disney movies and giggled figuring they'd pick the same one as always Pocahontas. They were all lined up in ABC order getting some of her mother's OCD habits she couldn't help it she liked things neat and tidy."Of course we always watch that one can't break tradition!" She said with a laugh.
She laughed. "True enough," she said, tossing the case to Jen. "Pop it in. I'll go grab the snacks." She
clambered to her feet, stretching momentarily before trotting out to the kitchen. Gathering up the things
she had gotten from the store, she added some other snacks to her pile from Jen's cabinets. Chips and dip,
popcorn, chocolate. It was all there. Aeryn could tell now that she was going to be feeling sick later on, but
it didn't matter at the moment. For now, all that mattered was having fun and spending time with her best
friend.
She went back and laid out their feast on the floor in front of the bed. Aeryn always liked sitting on the floor.
She didn't understand why, but it felt more comfortable that way. She smiled at Jen, motioning to the food. "Your feast, princess." It was a nickname that Aeryn had been using for Jen since they were little, since Jen's
family was a lot better off than her own. When they were little, Aeryn really did think that Jen was a princess.
Now she just used it to tease her friend. There was no bitterness in it. Aeryn and her family were happy with
their life, even if they couldn't afford everything they wanted. They believed that happiness was family and
friends, not material possessions, though Aeryn had saved for years to buy her Camaro.
"I'mma go change into something more comfortable." At the moment, she was wearing her soccer uniform, as
she had gone immediately from practice to look for a gift. She grabbed up her backpack and headed into the
bathroom, quickly changing into a simple pair of red shorts and a white shirt. She stuffed her uniform back into
her backpack and came back into Jen's room, tossing the pack into a corner for now. Settling herself on the
floor, she stretched out and cracked open a can of root beer. "Movie time!" she yelled loudly, stomping her
heels against the floor excitedly.
[/list:u][/list:u]
"Right buddy." She smiled and put i the tape and went threw the previews pausing it before the movie started. She waited for her friend to come back and laughed at all the snacks.
"Always with the best picks how could I be sad on such a day?" She giggled and moved to the floor and popped a chip in her mouth and smiled.Reguardless of what she called her or what she had she always shared it with her friend that's why they were best friends of course. THey shared clothes and make up even school notes it was just how they did things.
"Ok then." She smiled and looked to him h aving a camping bag near her feet she was going camping that weekend with her family and of course Aeryn was going Jen refused to go if she wasn't coming. Her mother said she had two kids taking in Aeryn since she was always over here.
"All right Ms. Impatient." She laughed and pressed play fooling with the backpack straps in her hands as the moving started and smiling like a little kid in a toy store. She loved this movie and wished she could find adventure and love like Pocahontas.
Leaning back against the bed, Aeryn stretched out her long limbs, crossing her legs over the camping pack
between them. She always did like propping her legs up on something. Her legs rested lightly across Jen's,
making the younger girl's skin look even paler against the dark caramel of Aeryn's skin. She sipped her root
beer, reaching across Jen to get at the chips every now and then as the movie when on. The ice cream sat
between them, two spoons pushed into the creamy goodness. The blond-haired John Smith boarded the ship,
riding on the cannon like a hero. Aeryn nudged Jen with her elbow. "There's your boyfriend," Aeryn teased her,
laughing. "Remember how you had such a huge crush on him when we were kids?"
She stuffed some chips in her mouth, watching the merciless torrent of rain toss the ship around like a child's
toy. She sang along to the movie. "We'll shoot ourselves an injin," she sang, mimicking the act of holding a
rifle. Despite being half Native American, it didn't really bother her. People in that time were close-minded. It
was just their way of thinking. Nothing to get her panties in a bunch over.
The scene changed to America, where Pocahontas's father returns from battle. Pocahontas jumps from the
waterfall and Miko follows. Miko always made Aeryn laugh. She loved that little raccoon. "I don't know what
Pocahontas's problem is. Kocoum is hot," she said as he appeared on the screen. "I would so tap that." She
laughed, downing her root beer and choking on it slightly. She coughed, but continued laughing nonetheless.
She slung her arm around Jen's shoulder, hugging her friend to her. "We need men like that."
She glanced down at the two halves of the amulet hanging from their necks. "Let's make a wish," she said in
an excited whisper. Her fingers found the half around Jen's neck and pulled it up towards her's. "I wish we
could find men like John Smith and Kocoum." She pressed the two halves together and grinned up at Jen.
She smield watching the movie and nibbling a spoon of ice cream and glad to be having it with her friend. She also took a few chips after her one spoon that was usually enough and she had to also mind her friends legs chicken legs not to knock any snacks over.
"yes must you remind me every time?" She said with pink cheeks and sighed looking at the blonde on the screen.
She laughed at her louder friend glad her mom went out for the night and not staying home to see all of this. The food would freak her out first then the noise. She was more the quiet one and just watching day dreaming a bit.
She heard Aeryn talk about the good looking guy on screen and giggled "Well you just go right after him since she hasn't noticed she wont mind." She giggled and kind of agreed but she liked John more "Oh so its him that's tap worthy this week?" She joked the two looked at guys but really didn't jump after them just drooled from afar.
She looked to her friend "I thought you did that with birthday candles?" She saw her take the two halves "I wish I could find someone like John Smith." She watched her press them together and it together started to glow and things shook and she felt wind. "What's happening?" She grabbed her bag hoping to stay on the floor it was packed heavy enough to weight her down.
She didn't have anytime to think straight as they were engulfed in a flash of light and she knew they were somewhere else.
Aeryn let go of the amulet as if she had been burned, looking around frantically as the ground beneath them
shook. "Earthquake?" she shouted over the roar of the shaking earth. It felt like she was in some carnival ride,
being shaken to her core. Her heart raced in her chest and she threw herself over Jen, covering her with as
much of her body as she could. "Stay down!" All she could think was to protect her friend. Her own safety
wasn't important. A light filled her vision, blinding her. "Jen!" Her voice died in her throat, the roar in her ears
drowning her own voice out.
~~
"I'm going down below," a familiar blond-haired man called to his shipmates. John Smith was en route to the
New World, just as he had been when the two girls were watching the movie. Some crud calls followed John
as he went below. The men on the boat were not very tactful, but John had gotten used to them. His shift
was over and he was tired. it was time for him to retire. As a captain, he got his own quarters, and for now,
he was grateful for it.
A bright light flashed under the door to his quarters. He raised his eyebrows slightly, approaching the door
cautiously. He drew his dagger and pushed open his door roughly, blue eyes searching his small room. His
eyes found a pale girl crouching on his floor around a bulky piece of canvas. "Well, what do we have here?"
he inquired, crouching down beside her and looking her over. Strange girl. His eyebrows raised a fraction. And scantily clad, he thought, looking over her bare legs. "A stow away?"
"I don't think so!" She shivered and let go of her amulet and the earth shaking made her forget how much she was shaking and she grabbed her camping pack hoping to use it to help hide their heads. "Right!" She said and before she could look around her friend was gone and it was dark the only thing she had was her camping pack.
When she opened her eyes she gasped seeing John Smith and blushing "I'm here by accident honest. I'm no stow away." She said shivering and starting to cry she didn't knoww hat else to do hugging her backpack and pulling her legs close to her. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to intrude."
~~~
A warrior was scouting the forest and then heard a shout and he went to investigate. He hid behind a tree and watched the figure in strange clothing but she looked a bit like them maybe from their brother tribe? "Who's there?" He called not leaving the safety of the trees.
John tilted his head curiously at the girl on his floor, his brows knitted in a small frown. "Hey now, don't cry. I'm
not going to hurt you." He put a gentle hand on her shoulder, hoping to ease her worries. "Come on, I wouldn't
turn you in even if you were a stowaway. There's nothing wrong with wanting to see the New World." He
looked around his small room, rubbing his lightly stubbled chin. He stood up and moved to the chest at the foot
of his small bed, opening it and taking out a few pieces of his own clothing. "Here, put these on. You can't go
around half naked, you know." He grinned mischievously, blue eyes raking over her bare legs once more. "Not
that I mind."
He set down the clothes next to her. "They'll be a bit big on you, but they shouldn't be too bad." He put his fists
on his hips, looking towards the door. "I'll just wait outside." With that, he moved towards the door, slipping out
soundlessly and closing the door behind him.
~~
Groaning loudly, Aeryn raised her head. Jen was no longer beneath her, but she had noticed as soon as she
had disappeared. A cold stab of panic pierced her heart. She was no longer at Jen's house. Untamed
wilderness surrounded her, the trees looking impossibly tall. She stood and looked around, brushing dead
foliage off her legs and arms. There was no sign at all of her friend, just an endless view of wilderness. The
sun was setting in the west, casting a magnificent purple and magenta glow over the horizon. "Jen!" she
called out, taking a few steps in no particular direction. She had no idea where to go anyways. "JEN!" She
raised her voice, her shout straining her throat roughly.
A voice sounded from behind her and she spun around, looking into the trees. She could see no one, but she
knew that she had heard someone call out. "Hello?" she called back, trying to see something besides trees. "I'm lost and can't find my friend." She kept her stance loose. She had no idea what sort of people might be
out here. She had seen her fair share of horror movies, and she wasn't about to fall prey to some banjo-
playing psycho.
[/list:u][/list:u]
She looks up and sniffles lightly "You wont that's a relief." She blushed when his hand was on her shoulder and smiled "Wow new world sounds like fun."She saw him move to the chest after what seemed to be a mo ment of thought and giggled "Right I guess I can't." She grinned hearing the rest "You don't mind huh? The ships that lonely poor thing."
She smiled and nodded "Right I have some needle and thread I can fix them in the morning." She watched him slip out of the room and changed the clothes swallowed her up leaving on what she had under neath as a way to keep herself covered."Done." She called out a few moments later.
~~
Kokoum heard the lost girl and slowly moved out to get a closer look and tilts his head at the strangle clothes wondering where she's from. "I'll help you find your friend but where are you from? I've never seen anyone like you before." Letting his curiosity get the better of him instead being on the look out.
Hearing her voice, John stepped back in the room, careful not to let anyone outside catch sight of her. If it got
out that there was a woman on board... John didn't want to think of what would happen to the young lady. Not
all these men had his kind of control. He stopped and looked Jen over, noticing the way the loose shirt clung to
her bosom. He shook his head. Where was his control now? He cleared his throat, tossing her a hat. "Tuck your
hair under that and keep your head down if you go out there. Hopefully they'll just think you're one of the lads."
He glanced around his room again, his eyes resting momentarily on his bed. He was supposed to be sleeping...
He sighed and sat on his bed. Not much chance of that with his stranger in his room. He looked up at her, a thick
eyebrow quirking up slightly. "So, where are you from?" he asked, attempting to make small talk. He kicked his
boots off and leaned back against the wall, looking at her questioningly.
~~
Aeryn's jaw dropped when the tall Native American stepped out from the shelter of the trees. Her eyes
wandered over his frame unabashedly, swallowing the lump caught in her throat. She was tall for her age,
but he towered over her like a wall of solid muscle. He wore nothing but a loincloth, and that barely covered
much. A blush darkened her cheeks and she pulled her eyes away from him reluctantly. He looked like Kocoum
from Pocahontas, but that was impossible, right? Her heart froze.
Their wish.
She stared at Kocoum unbelieving. Had they somehow been thrown into the movie? Her hand groped at the
amulet at her throat. If she was here wish Kocoum... then Jen must be with John Smith, where ever he was.
She laughed. It was a high, desperate sound and it shook her frame completely. "You wouldn't believe me if
I told you." The laugh died in her throat and she sat back down on the ground, wrapping her arms around her
knees and resting her head on her knees. She wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry anymore. They were stuck
here, separated from one another.
[/list:u][/list:u]
She nodded and smiled lightly pulling her hair up into a bun and looking at him noticing what he was wearing and blushing noticing how he moved. She was very taken and had to try hard to keep herself under control she'd jump him if she lost it and make alot of noise.
She watched him sit back and smiled watching his muscles move once agian as he leaned back and moved over sitting beside him. "Well you wouldn't believe me if I told you though I could try just don't call me a witch it wasn't planned at all it just happened I dropped in." She giggled lightly.
~~~
He looked at her and listened to her response his eyes still moving over her slowly. "Try me I can tell by your clothes it'd be rather long and full of things I wouldn't understand."She looked like an outsider though there wasn't any ships could she have flown here? Or perhaps she was a spirit of some sort here to test his people he just couldn't be sure.
