Having to wait between PMs?

This has happened to me twice now. The first time I needed to wait 420 seconds before being able to send another PM in a conversation that had already been started. It happened again but only needed to wait 10 seconds. Each time the message says “oops, we’ve encountered a problem”.

Why does this happen and why do we have to wait between PM messages?

The first should only happen on new conversations. If you are rapid-firing PMs it should rate limit you though, yes.

Eventually with enough participation the limit is removed, however.
