The day was glorious. Giant fluffy clouds floated lazily across the soft blue sky. The warm rays of the sun and a gentle breeze invited any an all to come out an enjoy the mid fall weather. Not too hot and certainly not anywhere close to cold. It was one of the last lovely days of the year. No way Kira would miss it. Not even if it meant risking running into Gregor.

Kira jumped out of bed early that morning. She nearly forgot to make breakfast as she shoved her large rear into ill-fitting jeans. Anything that was big enough in the waist for her butt was way too long for her legs. It showed too. The bottoms of her jeans were frayed beyond salvation, with the hem on one leg just plain gone. Thankfully, the cool green tee she wore didn't have the same problem. Between her smaller bust and a nice sports bra, she didn't have to worry about the fit at all. Kira pulled her shoulder-length chocolate hair back into a high ponytail as her toast roasted in the toaster, humming a cheery tune as she waited. Once it popped, she slathered it with peanut butter and downed it in too bites. Why waste time on food? Especially when she could use that time to pack her hiking bag. Ten minutes later, Kira was out the door. She made it about halfway down the block when she remembered her suppressants and ran back to go quickly take them.

"Take two." Kira sighed. She locked her door and once more, headed down the busy street. Her apartment, while not in the center of the city, still wasn't as close as she would have liked to the edge of the sprawling metropolis. Getting to the outskirts of Leide involved two buses and a subway ride. It was worth it though. To leave the confines of the city. Kira started to hum again, unable to contain herself. At least, until it became apparent she had a few disapproving onlookers. She quickly ducked her head. Honey eyes focused on the sidewalk just ahead of her feet as she bit her bottom lip, willing her smaller frame to disappear into the crowd. Right. She wasn't in the forest yet. That wasn't allowed. At least, not by an Omega. Seen and not heard. Kira picked up her pace as her excitement turned into cloying desperation.

Just think of the cabin. Kira silently told herself. It was her own secret hideaway, something she'd found and painstakingly rebuilt in high school with the help from a Beta friend. The cabin was a defunct Hunter's cabin. It sat about an hours hike outside the city limits, just on top of a tiny island surrounded on both sides by a shallow stream. The place was prone to flooding in really bad rains, which was probably the reason it was abandoned, but it was Kira's refuge. She kept all of her hunting gear there save for her hunting knife. That stayed in her backpack. Her bows and arrows, everything she used to prepare meat and process the hide, were all waiting for her at the cabin. Kira normally stuck to hunting smaller stuff. Things like fishers, foxes, rabbits, and raccoons. Maybe she'd try to find a deer today. Venison for dinner would be nice. Kira smiled to herself and continued her silent musings as she sat down on the bus stop bench and waited patiently for the bus to arrive.

Alonso Winters woke up to the same thing that always brought him from his sleep: pain. Not a sharp pain, but a dull aching that was always with him. Every second of every day. Being a veteran of combat, it hardly bothered him. But in sleep, he was able to truly forget it. So waking up always made it truly acute for a moment. The pain came from a few places, particularly nasty scars from even nastier opponents. But the real pain was always in his right shoulder, the stump where his arm used to be.

The one armed man stood up, a gentle groan as he stretched his giant frame. Not only was he six and a half feet tall, but his body was practically made of muscle. His long white hair fell behind him, forming his glorious, layered mane that made him stand out even more. There really was nothing about Alonso that could even be considered subtle.

From there, it was a regular routine of getting dressed and eating breakfast. He was slower than he should’ve been, still getting used to life with a single upper appendage. Six months just wasn’t enough time compared to his twenty-seven years of life. He could’ve made it go much quicker if he used his powers, but he avoided that. He didn’t want to become overreliant on them. That would only make him lazy.

As he finished his preparations, he couldn’t help but mentally remark on how massive his place was. Living in the penthouse of a top end apartment building came with some expected benefits, but this was far more than he anticipated. But this was a place for an Alpha and Alphas were expected to have Omegas and kids living with them. It was honestly odd that, at his age, he had neither. But he wasn’t in the business of searching for a mate. The last attempt had gone...poorly.

Finally ready to go, he grabbed the last piece he needed. It was a long black coat that he always wore. More than a fashion statement, it was his armor. Custom made and magically enhanced, it was a truly amazing piece of clothing that made Alonso even more terrifying. Finally, he was ready to go. After all, he had students to teach, and he knew from experience they wouldn’t whip themselves into shape.

“I thought I’d find you here,” Gregor Redd said in a taunting voice, appearing near Kira as if from thin air. Of course, he hadn’t teleported or anything. He had simply undone his invisibility. The strong young Alpha took a seat next to Kira, a smile on his face that resembled a predator staring at his prey.

Gregor was a handsome young man with sharp features, everything seeming to be a bit sharper and more pointed than an average person’s. He was well built, though not a monster by any means. His short, spikey red hair never would lead a person to believe he was skilled at stealth. But that assumption couldn’t be more wrong. After all, a decade of stalking Kira had given him plenty of practice.

“Off to that shitty cabin of yours?” he asked. He, being a gracious Alpha, had let his future Omega keep going to her little hideout. He knew about it and allowed it, thinking it was good for her to burn out this rebellious streak of hers before settling down to bare him children for the rest of her life the way he knew she was meant to. But just because he let her didn’t mean he didn’t voice his disapproval whenever he could. “I’ll nevet understand why you like that place. C’mon, don’t waste your time there. We can go back to my place for some real fun.” His tone and expression left no room for the imagination. Gregor’s type of fun was messy and highly explicit.

Kira's skin crawled. The hairs on the back of her neck stood at attention like spines on a seriously upset porcupine. She wished her tiny hairs were as dangerous as a porcupine. Something to protect that fragile gland on the back of her neck from being bitten. Kira automatically shrunk away from Gregor, one hand habitually covering her neck as she tried not to look at him. That would just make her feel worse than she already did.

The first time Gregor surprised her with his invisibility she'd nearly jumped out of her seat. After a decade of him randomly appearing, she'd gotten used to his sudden and unwanted intrusion. What a sad fact. The police didn't do anything to help with her situation either. No one cared. Or well... that wasn't entirely true. They did care in so far as the fact that she kept refusing a "perfectly good Alpha." Perfectly awful creep, more like.

Stalker. Kira thought viciously. She considered reaching into her bag to grab her hunting knife. Maybe if he lost his sausage and meatballs he'd leave her alone. Maybe he'd apologize if she fed them to him. Complete with fresh spaghetti. The idea made her smile a little despite herself. It was just a fantasy though. A pipe dream.

"It's not shitty." Kira retorted quietly as the bus arrived. She got up, still not looking at Gregor and got onto the bus. Kira paid as quickly as she could and slipped into the first seat she could find. It was a pregnant Omega seat. Fine. If anyone asked, she was pregnant. It didn't matter that she didn't smell pregnant, most Betas couldn't smell that anyways. Kira just didn't want to sit next to Gregor. She knew from experience he'd probably try to follow her. Maybe he'd even go as far as the city's edge this time. Well, he was a dedicated stalker, that's for sure. The first leg of her journey was only a five minute bus ride to the train station. After that, it was a fifty minutes on a train and then another twenty on the final bus to the start of the wilderness.

Gregor felt a mild rage bubbling inside him as she climbed up the stairs onto the bus. She had placed her hand over her neck when he was around. Him, an Alpha. She was just an Omega with a fat ass. She should be grateful he gave her even a fraction of her attention. With how much he talked to her, he had more than earned a lifetime of sexual servitude. Yet she continued to play hard to get. Didn’t she realize the game had to end eventually? She was going to be his, after all. She had to know that.

It all started back in middle school. He had really come into his own as an Alpha, his powers and body developing rapidly. Kira had always caught his eye, making him think she’d be a perfect mate. After all, those wide hips would be perfect for children. So he decided to pin her down one day and attempt to bond with her, something she should have been grateful for. But she refused and stopped by kicking him in the balls. But he knew she was just shy. Since that day, he had been working hard to get her to finally admit what he already knew: she was dreaming of being his.

He had debated sneaking up on her and biting her in her sleep. The several times he had broken into her house at night had been for that very reason. But he always stopped himself. He had his pride, and stealing it away felt wrong. She’d submit to him of her own will eventually. After all, he was Gregor Redd. What woman could resist being with him? Those thoughts pacifying him, he left the bus stop behind, heading back through the city streets to find his entertainment for the day.

He didn't follow her! Kira sighed heavily with relief. She let herself slide down a little in the seat, head leaning back against the vibrating glass as the bus pulled away. Thank goodness. Whatever force in heaven or hell helped keep Gregor away from her, she'd take it. Anything to keep that awful man off her back.

Kira wrapped her arms around herself and sighed again. All of the excitement and anticipation she had for the cabin disappeared the moment Gregor mentioned it. He probably knew where it was too. The hike to the cabin was long, but not difficult. The worst part was crossing the river and all she had to do was take her shoes off for that bit. Kira shuddered at the thought of him finding her out there... alone. Maybe the cabin wasn't such a great idea. Perhaps in a week or two. If she waited two and a half she could ride her heat out there like she sometimes did. Until then, Kira had a lot of time to kill. After her run in with Gregor she deserved some pampering. Kira considered going shopping. Maybe she could pick up a pretty outfit or a ton of chocolate.

A lightbulb went off in Kira's head. A new bow! Her old one was, well, old. The poor thing was an old Recurve Bow she got on sale several years ago. She could pick up something new and shiny. Just add on all the bells and whistles too. It didn't matter how much it cost. Honestly, she'd had that kind of day.

The trip to the weapons store was both quick and awkward. In order to buy a weapon, she had to travel Military Training Campus. That was the only place that sold weapons, even to civilians. So while her long trip turned into a simple twenty minute train ride, it also meant walking into a den of Alphas and Betas. Kira took a deep breath and entered the campus. She showed her ID to the security guard who then escorted her to the shop. She kept her head low and her eyes down the entire time, her grip on her bag so tight her knuckles were white. Once inside, she quietly thanked the security guard and scrambled off towards the bow section.

If Kira couldn't spend the day out in the wilderness, this would do. Seeing the beautiful racks of bows on display was a dream come true. Every kind of bow imaginable hung from the displays, shiny and new. Some wooden, others high carbon steel, and a few fairly expensive pieces were magically enhanced. Horizontal display cases ran in rows to show off the various kinds of arrows and quivers a person could buy. The whole thing made Kira drool. It was amazing! She pushed her hands against her mouth, trying very hard not to squeal or make any loud noises. Instead, she ran from one bow to the next, eyeing each one with pure glee and a buyer's discretion.

The first thing Alonso did that morning was head to his office. It was a rather nice place, nicer than any office given to the Beta staff. His desk, a comfy chair, two for anyone who wanted to come in to speak with him, and his computer. All in all, a mostly normal space. However, his subject was anything but. As a teacher at the Military Training Campus, he was tasked with helping to raise the next generation of soldiers and hunters. Even more unusual was his subject: practical combat training. It was a place for his expertise to shine.

Once he dropped off his few things, it was off to the sparring arena. While he didn’t actually have class this early, he always liked to inspect the area in the morning. If he didn’t, he felt uneasy. He didn’t want someone to receive an unnecessary injury from something preventable. But, as expected, everything was fine.

Still with time to kill, he decided to have a little fun. The Outpost, the weapon supplier located on campus, was always a marvel. A warehouse with weapons of every style imaginable. While Alonso was more of a martial artist and magic user, he still loved a good weapon. He had practiced most styles just to gain some familiarity, and had taken them on hunts during more than one occasion. So before class started, he’d take the time to admire their selection.

As soon as Alonso entered the Outpost, he could smell it. He barely noticed the security guard that waved him through with respect bordering on reverence. He was focused on the scent he had almost never smelled in here before. There was an Omega in this place. That was unusual to say the least. Omegas weren’t generally allowed to enlist in the Campus. There were specialized programs for those that showed particular altitude for combat, but they were often isolated from the rest of the school. His curiosity piqued, Alonso followed his nose, curious to see who the source of this smell was.

Obviously, the top tier hunting bows were way out of Kira's price limit. That didn't stop her from dreaming though. The glorious compound bows didn't have the same beauty of a nice recurve in her opinion, but they were a lot better when it came to hunting. Compounds offered more power for less work. She wouldn't need to strain as hard to get the same amount of force. Plus they were generally more accurate and had a longer range. Still... they didn't look as nice as a recurve. Kira sighed. Practicality over beauty.

That's when she saw it. A gorgeous, wooden recurve bow made from Osage orange wood and enchanted to be as easy and accurate as a compound bow. The gentle curves and deep orange coloring were accented by the light wrapping around the handle. Kira wanted it. She didn't want anything more in that moment than to take that bow home with her. One hand stretched out longingly. Kira didn't dare look at the price. A part of her shouted it didn't matter. It screamed to the heavens that she should just take this bow home, the price be damned! In a fit of pure insanity, Kira decided to listen to it. Smiling, she turned around to go find a clerk.

Kira's smile faltered when she spotted an unfamiliar Alpha coming her way. She didn't even need his scent. He was built like the standard Alpha. Tall, muscular, and enormous. The scars on his face, thick white mane, and his single arm made him stand out even more than he already did. Even so, he had a distinct handsome quality to him. Perhaps not traditionally so, but in a more rugged way. He reminded Kira of the hunters she liked to look at in magazines. It took Kira an entire minute to figure out she was openly staring at the man. Bright red heat flooded her cheeks and she ducked her head. Should she apologize? Maybe it was better to not say anything at all. Except, before she knew it, her mouth decided for her. "S-sorry." She muttered.

While she had been staring, Alonso had been doing the same, his eyes sizing her up completely. Of course, the first place his eyes went was her large butt. It was amazing. It was big and full, straining against her pants and begging to be let free. Alonso was no monk, so he had no problem with viewing a sexy woman in a sexual way.

However, he didn’t stare just at her rear. He evaluated the rest of her as well. He size, her muscles, the way she held herself as she stood, he took it all in. But he also made sure to smell her scent. It was sweet, but also rugged. Like the smell of a flower blooming on a mountain. Then his eyes went down to the bow in her hand. He didnt think she had seen the price. He doubted she’d actually be able to afford such a piece of craftsmanship. But her interest in owning such a thing brought on even more intrigue.

Draw,” he ordered, turning on his Alpha voice by instinct more than anything. He wanted to see her stance for how she shot sn arrow. It’s help him decide what he was going to do next.

Kira responded completely on instinct. Her body moved before her mind even registered the order. She twisted her hips, legs shifting shoulder length apart as her arms raised to the side in one fluid motion. Her left hand gripping the bow and right hand pulling back the string with ease until her hand was by her chin. The frame of her body formed a perfect T. One could draw a line directly from her high elbow, down her other arm, and through the sight. The only thing missing was an actual arrow. Otherwise, it was a perfect position, one honed through years of practice. Her target, the wall at the far end of the store, had her undivided attention. At least for a moment.

It's so easy! Kira thought with glee. Even though she'd been shooting for years, the amount of strength she needed to pull the string back shocked her. It was effortless. So much so that Kira was sure she'd have to add special muscle training. Gaining and keeping muscles as an Omega was extremely difficult. This thing would spoil her. She wanted it!

Kira's second thought was one with a tinge of panic. A strange Alpha had ordered her around like it was nothing. It probably was nothing to him. Just a simple command. For her though, the way she'd just accepted it initially was almost scary. With that kind of voice, he could ask her to do anything. So... why ask her to draw? Kira spared a glance at him, but didn't drop her stance. Confused coated her honey gaze.

“Beautiful,” Alonso murmured, speaking about both the form and the woman performing it. His order couldn’t be defied, but it couldn’t do the impossible. A person would only do what they thought was a perfect draw. If she was an amateur, it would’ve shown. But she wasn’t. She was a hunter. He could tell from her stance that she didn’t just do competitive archery; she used it to hunt and kill. He found himself instantly more attracted to her.

He reached out a hand towards her. “Give me the bow,” he told her. He knew there was no way she could’ve afforded it. Just a look at her clothes told him that much. And he knew how much Omegas made on their government assistance. This bow cost two years of that. So he’d get it instead.

That really did make her smile. Her embarrassed and confused blush turned to one of pride. Compared to the professional hunters and fighters, Kira was only an amateur. She learned how to hunt and use a bow as a hobby. Heck, the idea fo pursuing it as a career never really occurred to her. She wasn't good enough. At least, that's what she thought. So to hear an Alpha, of all people, praise her stance made her really happy. "Thanks."

Kira's smile dropped when he ordered her to give him the bow. Well, I could come back for it. Assuming they'd let her come back. If an Alpha banned her from the shop, there wasn't much she could do about it. Dejected, Kira handed him the bow. Her gaze lingered on the wood. Would it find a good home with him or would he just put it back on display? Kira quickly found herself fantasizing. She could just take the bow from him and run off. If she didn't listen she could get away. As an added bonus, she wouldn't have to pay for the bow. Kira knew enough about the land she could live in her cabin until things calmed down. Then the bow would be hers.

A silly dream. Kira sighed. "Sorry." She wasn't really sure what she was apologizing for. It just felt like the thing to do. Like she'd broken some invisible rule. Sure, there was no law or anything that technically prevented her from buying weapons or going hunting on her own, but that didn't mean society at large would accept it. Gregor certainly disapproved. Not that Kira cared.

With the bow in hand, Alonso attempted to do what he thought would be the smooth thing to do. He reached out to wrap a big, strong arm around her shoulders, allowing him to hold her against him as he went up to the counter to purchase the bow for her. But it didn’t work. He had momentarily forgotten that he only had one arm, and the one he was missing was what he tried to touch her with.

He saw her expression and felt even worse. Since the incident, Alonso had become much quieter, using fewer words than he would have before. Doctors said it was a symptom of his condition, something he tried to deny. However, his curtness hadn’t conveyed his intentions. She clearly thought he was taking it from her for good. He considered speaking to help clear things up, but worried he would only make the situation worse. He’d speak with actions instead.

“Come,” he told her, not using his Alpha voice. He had always been told to never hesitate to use it on an Omega, but he held back. She might get a better impression of him if he wasn’t forcing her to do anything. He walked up to the counter, buying not just the bow, but a matching quiver as well. It was, to a normal person, a luxurious expense. To a man with years of wealth and a lack of expensive vices, it was trivial.

With the purchase made, he led the young woman out of the shop, not wanting the display of affection to be made in front of the cashier and the security guard. When they were outside, he handed both the bow and the quiver to her. “For you.”

Come?

Kira tilted her head slightly. Her teeth grazed her lower lip. This wasn't an Alpha order, at least not one made with that voice. She could ignore it. Just walk away and forget about the bow and the man. Intentionally or not, Kira had no way of knowing, he'd given her a choice. Kira hesitated. Was it really a good idea to go with the man? She already had enough troubles with one Alpha and that was the devil she knew. This man was a complete unknown. Any wits she had should have told her to leave. Except, they were quiet. The usual sense of unease she felt around Alphas just wasn't there. So, against all logic, Kira followed him.

She didn't say a word throughout the checkout process. Kira silently watched as he bought not only the bow she wanted, but a magnificent quiver as well. Why? A little voice hoped it was for her. Kira had to tell it that was stupid. Why would he buy a really expensive bow and quiver for her? It just didn't make sense. But... maybe. Kira couldn't really think of any other reason as to why he'd make her watch him buy the bow she so clearly wanted. Well, except maybe to be cruel. Some Alpha's were like that.

This Alpha quickly proved her wrong. He took her outside and gave both the bow and the quiver to her. Kira's eyes were wide as saucers. Quivering hands reached out towards the gifts, hovering just a hair's breath away from touching them; as if the contact might make them crumble to dust. With one last push, she took them. "Thank you." Kira held the gifts close, cradling them as emotion welled up inside of her. "Thank you. How can I ever repay you?"

She was shocked at the gesture, something that didn’t surprise Alonso. An Alpha giving a gift to an Omega they weren’t bonded with was a rarity. But he did it because he wanted to make her happy. A beautiful Omega working to master the art of archery? How could he ever not nurture such a thing.

While his gesture had been out of kindness, he found himself incapable of dismissing any sort of repayment. If he was honest, there was something that he wanted. He wouldn’t have asked for it outright normally, but if she was offering, he couldn’t resist asking.

“Do you cook what you hunt?” he asked simply. “If so, will you cook me a meal?” Alonso had access to incredible foods whenever he wanted, but there was a nostalgia and care in cooked piece of wild meat that was lost in much of the more fancy cooking he ate. He missed it, reminding him of the glory days as a Hunter.

"I can cook!" Kira eagerly jumped on the branch offered to her. This gift was far too wonderful to not repay. "I mean, I'm alright, but I know my way around a fire and a few wild herbs. I think I have some meat from my last hunt still in the freezer or I could try to catch something today. But that would take time." Kira tapped her chin, trying to think. She did want to out into the wilderness as soon as possible and test her new bow out. On the other hand, it was a long way to travel and she'd actually need to have a successful hunt. That wasn't guaranteed. Some way to pay him back. Sure, I'll feed you. Oops I failed to catch anything.

"Sorry." Kira said again, ducking her head. Her arms held her gifts tight, as if she was afraid the wrong word or slip of the tongue might prompt him to take them away. She was rambling. That wasn't good. The euphoria of her present was getting to her.

"I'm Kira, by the way. Kira Rice." She offered him her hand to shake, but retracted it partially, still unsure. He was a bit hard to read. Quiet. Didn't say a lot. The last thing Kira wanted to do was upset him, especially after he'd been so nice to her.

Alonso listened to her, then smiled. This Omega was quite cute. A mixture of energy and submission. She was charming and, rather surprisingly, unbonded. At least according to her smell she was. He felt a relief in him that he didn’t want to admit. So he reached out and took her hand in his.

“Alonso Winters,” he said, giving her a strong single shake before letting go. He then pulled out a small pad of paper from his pocket that he used to take notes on students he observed during class. He quickly wrote down his number onto the paper. “You can’t choose when you get a good haul,” he told her, assuring her that he knew the struggles that hunting brought. Too many nights on journeys had hunger from such an event. Then he tore off the note, handing it to her. “For when such a thing happens.” He watched her expression carefully, wanting to see what sort of a reaction this would elicit.

Kira took the piece of paper. She immediatly pulled out her phone, shuffling awkwardly around her gifts to send him a quick text. Even if she didn't get him in as a contact right away or somehow lost the paper, at least he had her number this way. Plus it just acted as a general reminder. "I'll be sure to call you. I uh, I should be on my way." Kira bowed her head a little. "It was nice to meet you. Thanks again!" With that, she headed out.

Since all of Kira's things were already packed for the trip to the wilderness, she headed straight for her cabin. It was well into the better part of the day when she finally made it to her cabin. Kira didn't go out right away though. She spent time just practicing with the bow, getting used to how it shot and shooting handmade targets. It took some time to get used to the new bow. Unsurprisingly, between that and how little time she had to hunt, Kira came back with nothing to show for her efforts that day. Sunset was upon her before she knew it, forcing her back to the city. Stronger creatures came out at night, monsters and things that Kira didn't dare mess with. If she wanted to get back home that day, she'd have to leave before darkness fell. Otherwise, she'd be stuck in the cabin until sunrise.

The next two hunting trips also yielded little success. She didn't want to get rabbits or other paltry prizes. Kira wanted to prove to herself to Alonso. Finally, her third hunt struck gold. Her arrow found its home in a young doe.

"Yes!" Kira cried, bouncing through the forest to claim her prize. She placed a gravity tag on the carcass. It was a magical little trinket that she'd bought second-hand from a retiring hunter. The tag lightened any load it was attached to, allowing the user to carry heavy things with little problem. Frankly, it was a life saver. Kira lifted the doe with ease and managed to bring it back to her cabin without incident. Once there, she texted Alonso.

Hey. Caught a doe. Hope you're hungry :)

She added directions to the Cabin, including which bus stop was closest to the trailhead, which path to use, and what landmarks to look out for. Kira started humming to herself as she pulled out her knife and got to work.

Her prep station was outside and close to the river for easy cleaning. Tanning racks and a smoke house sat next to the cabin itself. The cabin wasn't very large, just big enough to comfortably fit the most basic amenities like a bed, a fridge, a large freezer, a work bench. Everything inside was raised off the ground, including the generator. Kira didn't bother to use storage shelf that wasn't at least a foot off the ground. Sandbags lined part of the island to help mitigate some of the flooding, but it didn't stop all of it. On one of the higher parts of the tiny island was her fire pit. Kira only bothered to pull enough meat off the doe as she needed for dinner, placing them in a bag to marinate before doing the bare minimum to make sure the rest wouldn't spoil. Especially since she'd brought a slightly nicer outfit to wear than just her normal hunting wear. It was a nicer pair a jeans, decorated with a magically shifting pattern down one leg, and a cute long sleeved top that accentuated her curves. While her bust wasn't nearly as voluptuous as her rear, Kira was still a woman and it showed in her beautiful Bs.

Gregor wasn’t happy. Not at all. He had done his normal investigations of Kira over the past three days and something was wrong. She was more chipper and energetic than usual. It was suspicious. Did something happen when he wasn’t watching? He went into her house at night to check, but she was sleeping there, all alone. So that means she couldn’t be cheating on him, right? Not his Kira. She already belonged to him and she knew it. Still, there was a shift in her scent. Subtle, so subtle he couldn’t be completely sure he wasn’t imagining it, but he couldn’t ignore it. He wanted to keep a closer eye on her, but he did have other things he needed to do. Plus she was heading out of town today. Unless she was rutting with some animal, he had nothing to worry about. It’s not like there was anyone she could meet up with out of town. Satisfied with his thinking, Gregor went back to work, a renewed if unjustified faith that his property remained loyal to him. It’s not like she could ever find a better man for her than him.

—————

For the next few days, Kira was constantly in the back of Alonso’s mind, bugging him to think about her Instead of, well, anything else. Any peaceful moment was inevitably ruined by him checking his phone, seeing if he had somehow missed her text, only to find that no, she hadn’t reached out to him. He felt like what Betas described their teenage years as. He didn’t like it.

When the text finally came, it was a wave of relief over him. At that point, he had begun to think she was never going to text him again. He texted back an agreement to meet, doing his best not to seem over eager. But in reality, he was more than happy to meet with the charming Omega. If nothing else, he’d get to see her gorgeous ass once more. That alone was worth the trek out of the city.

Once he was free of obligations, it was time to begin the hunt. He followed her instructions, double checking things to make sure he wasn’t off track. It was too easy to get lost in unfamiliar wilderness after all. But sure enough, he eventually found her place. Dressed in a relatively nice shirt and pants underneath his regular black coat, he was ready for the meal.

Alonso showed up just as Kira was putting the marinated meat on a metal grate over the fire. She also added a couple ears of corn to the lot. As Kira worked, she had to maneuver around a few stumps that she'd been using as chairs. Sitting on one of the stumps was a bowl full of store bought pasta with veggies. Kira had attempted to make something similar the day before, but it ended in disaster.

Kira brightened the moment she smelled the Alpha. With the food already cooking, she stood awkwardly next to the fire and smiled broadly at Alonso. He cleaned up nicely. "Uh... hey. Hope it wasn't too hard to find this place. I, er- do you want to sit? I could get you something from the cabin or..." Kira trailed off. Her eyes automatically moved to her hands and the wrung together. She'd awaited his arrival with giddy anticipation. Now that he was here, Kira couldn't help but wonder if she was doing the right thing. Thoughts like, she should have invited him to her house or asked to go to his place, invaded her head. But, that just... she'd wanted him to come here. To her special place. That wasn't really okay though, was it? Omegas didn't hide out in cabins in the wilderness. No one except hunters did. She'd wanted to impress him though.

"I caught a doe." Kira blurted out quietly.

Was that...arousal? He couldn’t say for certain. While there were similarities in smells, every Omega was different. And Kira was certainly far from regular. Plus the scent of the meat was interfering as well. But he couldn’t help but both wonder and hope that was the case. If anything, she was at least trusting. He doubted she would freely give away the location to someone she didn’t want to find her.

“I can see that. Quite impressive,” he commented, smiling at the young woman as stepped towards the fire. He took a seat on one of the stumps, knowing it’d look a little silly. His size made almost any normal chairs look off. “Tell me about the hunt.” She was clearly nervous about being alone with him. He hoped asking about this subject would open her up.

Kira brightened and slipped into the 'seat' besides him. "It went really well. Took me a bit to get used to the new bow. It's so much better than my old one to the point where it was actually throwing my aim off. Hence the wait. But today it was just a fantastic hunt. The herd was close by in this little open valley. I was able to sneak up along the ridge, down wind of them. Honestly. I couldn't have found a better spot if I tried. It was fantastic. She never even saw me coming." As she spoke, her unease quickly melted. The chance to talk to someone about her hobby, someone who legitimately seemed to care, was too good to pass up. This was why she liked the forest. She could relax.

"What about you? What do you do at the Base?" Kira just sort of assumed any Alpha in the compound worked there. It was a big draw for Alphas. Not every one to be sure, but somehow with all of Alonso's scars, Kira doubted he was all that different. At least in his choice of profession.

Alonso certainly was different though. Most Alphas would have said something by now to try and discourage her. They wouldn't have bought her that bow and quiver, that was for sure. Except, he didn't. Nothing about how remote or unsafe this place was. No disparaging remarks about how unsuitable her hobby was for an Omega. Just curiosity. It was refreshing. Encouraging even.

“I’m a teacher. Practical combat,” he told her simply. After a second of silence, he decided to elaborate. He needed to practice speaking more and she seemed like the perfect person to do so with. “It’s not much. I mostly spar with the students or observe them sparring each other. I also guide weapon training.” He thought for a moment, thinking if a joke would be appropriate. There was a common one that was told about him that he thought he’d try repeating for her. “I can beat any of them with just one arm.” He wasn’t sure how a joke like that would sound coming from him. Hopefully not too weird.

“I used to be a Hunter,” he added onto that, trying to distract from his lack of humor. He wondered how much detail he should give her. He decided that would be enough for now. A lot of what he could add on to that would only ruin the mood.

Kira snorted before bursting out laughing. She quickly hid her smile behind her hand. "Sorry." The thought of Alonso wiping the floor with a bunch of rookies and only one arm was pretty funny. Somehow, all of the rookies in her mind turned into Gregor. Now that was a thought. Better yet, Alonso could chuck Gregor into the air like a clay disk for Kira to practice her new bow on. Kira pulled a knee to her chest and rested her chin on it. She smiled at Alonso, her honey eyes sparkling. "That sounds really cool. A former Hunter and a teacher. No wonder you wanted to see my stance. I'm not a hunter though. At least not one in any official capacity. I mostly just do it to help keep myself sane. How'd I do? My stance I mean."

It took Kira a little longer than she would have like to catch that doe, so she was concerned what his thoughts would be on that particular front. At least she was confident in her stance. It worked well and got the got job done. Plus she'd had training early. That same Beta friend who helped her rebuild the cabin also managed to convince his dad, a real Hunter, to show her the ropes. It'd been a while since she last spoke to her friend though. Kira suspected Gregor had something to do with it.

She wanted points on her form? Alonso wasn’t much of an archer himself, but he had worked with and studied the art. He found it was always useful to know what your allies were capable of. So he decided he would offer her the insight that he could.

“Take your stance,” he told her as he got up, walking to the nearest clear area wide enough for the two of them to stand in. He hoped she understood to do it over by him. Before, he had just been checking to see if she was an archer or just an Omega with a curiosity. He wouldn’t waste money on a weapon for one who would never use it or value it properly. Now he’d actually be critiquing her.

"Yes!" Kira jumped to her feet, only to remember both the cooking food and that she actually needed a bow for this. "One minute." The first thing Kira did was flip food on the grill. She didn't even bother be safe. The heat nipped at her fingers, burning the tips slightly as she haphazardly flipped the food with metal tongs. Drops of juice slipped past the grate and evaporated into the flames, sending them higher. The scent of meat and corn burst into the air. It covered the campsite. Just a few more minutes and they'd be done. Kira didn't linger. Instead, she dashed into the cabin and grabbed her new bow before joining Alonso in the open space.

"Sorry about that." Just like before, Kira took her stance. The T frame of her body strong and confident. Unlike last time, Kira was more familiar with the bow and it showed ever so slightly. Her grip was nestled in a better spot. The pull of the string on her fingers was a hairs breadth easier. Little quirks that Kira automatically picked up about her bow over the past few days. Kira didn't glance at Alonso while she waited for his opinion. She just hoped it was positive.
