The Johnson family was fated, perhaps even cursed, Jennifer was convinced. Not much more than a year ago, she had lost her parents. The recently graduated 22 year old also no longer had a twin brother Joshua who she used to be so close to following a fatal accident last week. She was effectively all alone in the world with just her memories and a family house she had inherited by default. Bereavement was taking its toll on her both emotionally and on her physical health.

Attending Joshua's funeral, her sobbing at the graveside turned into a more frenzied wailing as his coffined body was lowered into his last resting place. He would be gone forever, she thought but she found it so difficult to accept. After hopelessly trying to dry some of her tears from her face with a handkerchief in her hand, Jennifer thought she could see a face she could recognise on the opposite side of the small gathering. She had heard his girlfriend Riley had been hurt in the accident too but her vision was a bit blurred and she had not expected her to be there.

Perhaps she was being callous but she could not help thinking she wished it was her brother who survived the car crash and not his girlfriend, who she had to confess she never really liked much. Jennifer couldn't really blame Riley but she had felt at times she need to take her anguish out on someone. Afterwards pausing for a moment she eventually made her way over to check out if it was her. If she wasn't mistaken it seemed that she may have been accompanied by a nurse too.
