Going back to her home town was something Chloe had been unconsciously dreading since she left for college the previous fall. It was something she had been avoiding even to think about whenever her mind wandered in that direction which was often. Instead she always made excuses, however feeble, to her father, especially now he was on his own, including returning for Christmas, Easter and even Thanksgiving before. It wasn't at all that she want to stay away. She had been craving to see him, always loved him and always would. The hardest part was that it was at this time she needed him more than ever and perhaps he missed her too eve if the two of them were not as close as when she was younger.
Not for the first time tears seeped from her eyes as she took the slip road from the highway and started to recognise all the sites that were so familiar during her childhood and up to rather erratic adolescence years. Traces of her unpredictable and volatile behaviour remained with her as a freshman at college. Gifted she was musically but in no way did this offset how eccentric she could be. Unassuming she may have seemed but it could be deceptive if not quite deceitful. The contradictions showed in the simple white tee and jeans she was wearing that camouflaged much of her rather voluptuous body.
Turning into the street where she had lived most of her 18 years, Chloe hesitated. The memories were overwhelming as so many came flooding back. She pulled to the side of the road and temporarily parked, wondering if she could do it. It was proving to be too much of an ordeal. She took out her cell phone. Her hands were shaking. Slowly she managed to type a message. "Daddy can you please come out and get me. I'm in the car just outside."
