Ran had been training under his master, Mai, for over a year now. She was a skilled ninja and Ran hoped to be the same one day, but for now he was still an apprentice. Though for an apprentice he was still rather skilled, he had a natural ability for learning that meant he tended to pick up new techniques much more quickly than most pupils, though when it came to mastering those techniques he still needed a lot of work. He had been give a few days off from his training, time to rest his body and meditate on his lessons, something just as important as physical training, but now it was time to get back into the swing of things. After walking for a little while longer he finally reached Master Mai's home, her house to the left and her training dojo to the right. For once Ran was actually on time, it was usual for him to be almost an hour late for his first training session after Mai had sent him on his relaxation and meditation days, perhaps her lessons were finally starting to kick in just a little bit more than Ran would like to admit. He knew better than to barge into her home, instead making his way to the entrance of the dojo, bowing his head as he got to the door, saying a silent prayer, before opening it up and walking in. Something was awfully, terribly wrong. It was just supposed to be another routine experiment with new techniques. Sure, each new technique is unique, but she had learned many and even developed some during her career, and she had seen every way in which a technique could fail...or so she thought, anyways. Ran could immediately notice that something was wrong with his mentor, because she was usually completely composed, but right now she's downright flustered and panting rapidly. "Uh something went wrong with my experiment last night." she told him, which just made it even weirder: he always knew she's constantly testing new techniques, but she never felt obliged to report the result to her pupil.
