A full week had passed since the call came from the hospital that Claire's uncle had passed away in a car accident. She was the next of kin by default as she was rather estranged from her uncle though more because he kept his distance despite a few attempts to connect with him after her own parents passed. It was sad but she had a hard time feeling much for a man she didn't even know when her parents were alive and now she was left with no family and just a handful of friends to help her cope. The week was rather busy as the arrangements fell on her and she opted for something small since her uncle didn't seem to have many friends or anyone who cared now that he was gone. The biggest shock came from an attorney who called her down for the reading of the will in which she was given everything he owned including the house on the outskirts of the city. She couldn't refuse as the twenty five year old had little to her name and now wouldn't have to worry while she figured out her career and path in life.
Over the next few days Claire slowly moved in to the house rather quickly as she was only renting a room and didn't have much to pack beyond her clothes and some furniture that was most likely not needed as the house was still furnished. She spent her days cleaning up as ab it as in his final days he had let the place go but nothing that a day of straight cleaning couldn't fix and she had all the time in the world. The next day was the proper funeral and like Claire expected not many showed only a small handful who stood around awkwardly as he was lowered into the ground and gave their condolences before leaving her there alone. The rest of the week was filled with her clearing out the his belongings though mostly clothes which she donated along with a rather large stack of books. The house looked emptier but she preferred that over having so many reminders of him laying around. This part took the longest as some of his keepsake she paused and went through learning more about him as she really didn't know much beyond the fact that he was her father's brother.
After a week the place was finally feeling more like home as Claire roamed about the house wearing a simple pair of tight black leggings and a white tank. The rain outside gently pattered against the windows as she walked past the basement stairs. she paused letting out a bit of a sigh as she had yet to tackle that area of the house. Though mainly because she had little reason to go down there, but she would have to at some point and today might as well be it since her plans were canceled due to the weather. The stairs creaked as she slowly walked down them turning on the light as it flickered a bit from not being used in so long. The basement was rather dusty and to her surprise not as bad as she thought. Most of the stuff was already in boxes though most unmarked and still sealed as if her uncle was trying to get rid of it before he passed away. Her eyes were drawn to the large crate in the middle of the room and was just a few inches taller then Claire who stood about 5'6 feet tall. She left it alone as she explored the two smaller rooms one which was the utility room and the other was strangely locked and none of her keys seemed to fit in it.
Finally she returned to the large crate and slowly opened it after fetching a hammer form the garage to help pry the boards loose until she could get it open with her hands. Claire jumped back a bit as the sight of the life sized doll shocked her thinking it was a real person for a quick moment. Though as she ran a hand over it she could feel that it was fake and a shudder ran down her spine as she though of what this thing might have been used for. She slowly took it out of the crate her hands running over it's body admiring the craftsman ship that went into as every detail was perfect. "Not sure what I'm gonna do with you. Might be worth a bit. Don't worry I'll find you a new home." Claire joked speaking to it as she carried it upstairs holding it tight. "but first maybe I'll get you dressed." Claire added taking the doll up to her room and laying it down on the bed. She let out a soft yawn as the work from the day made her weary and the weather outside didn't help. She crawled into bed taking up the other half the king size bed just wanting to rest her eyes for a bit.
