"You are very different from the rest of your race...", her Hopic friend commented to her. Keeva sighed forlornly before she answered,"I know..." The two were making their way though a hallway. They passed many rooms filled with experiments.
The Tal'Lei were a hyper-intelligent race. Yet Keeva found that despite being raised the exact same way as everyone else, she didn't quite fit into social norm's. Despite being monogamous her race didn't really have any type of 'courting' system in play. The females were peaceful, yet very nearly emotionless. The males on the other hand were very vicious and ruthless in their actions. Pairings can happen either naturally or can be forced. Many like Keeva, had done it naturally. Oncethey reach maturity and a certain flower is in bloom, males are driven into a hunting mentality to seek out a female that would give them healthy children. While femalesare either made dizzy or more receptive tothe males harsh nature. Forced pairings happen mainly between noble's for political gain. Keeva's paired male was supposed to have been forced paired with a noble female. Yet during the day she had been at the wrong place at the wrong time and he had just escaped after his mentality had caught aslight whiff of her. Needless to say his family hated their their eldest son had gone an paired with some common.
They entered the main hub and took in thesight. Even after joining the Galactic Research Coalition two years ago, it still amazed her to see all the different races andlanguages. She had already learned the collective language for 30 different races but she did have to admit she was only fluent in5 of them. Her friend was an amphibious race with four arms and six eyes. The two were in the same team of field researchers. They had gone and experienced many worlds together.
Poranna chuckled as she leaned against the barred rails and asked,"Guess your shy, bubbly nature doesn't really fit in back home. Does it?" At this Keeva shook her head andsaid,"Nope... In fact right after I paired with my male counterpart, his family were already talking about having it chemicallyundone but then-"
"Then you found out that you had gotten knocked up and that made it impossible to do."
There was a nod from Keeva as she continued,"Right. Which doesn't really happen all that much. Normally it's veryhard for conception. Its all about the right timing and all this other factors. Even then at birth we are so very fragile. That's why itsnot really heard of for anyone but nobles to have anything to do with their child. Theyjust give birth and the institute raiseschildren." At this her friend asked,"So he's a noble but your not one... But your kid is." Keeva shook her head and said,"Its not likeon your planet. You have to be born into thefamily. They keep constant influence in the child's life to ensure their family honor."Though Keeva hadn't really done that. After she gave birth she had been constantly visiting her daughter. Even now she videochatted with her now child. Much to the ire of the sire's family. Her friend shrugged andlooked to the spaceships docking. Then she narrowed her eyes one one. She looked down to Keeva and asked,"Hey isn't that one a Tal'Levian ship? Are we expecting anyoneimportant?"
She turned her attention to the ship as well and then said,"I'll be damned. It is! I don'tthink so. At least not our department." They both watched as nobles started walking out. Then Keeva said,"Maybe its for a peace negotiation? We are a neutral base after all." Though her confused expression turned to afearful one as she saw her male counterpart come walking out and it immediately looked like he was looking the various races for something. She squeaked and quicklygrabbed her friends clip board before holding it over her face as she turned her head toward Poranna. Then she whisperedout,"Hide me!" At her reaction Poranna narrowed her eyes at Keeva before looking back down to the group of nobles.
It didn't take her long to see the male. Thenshe smirked as she watched him andsaid,"How the hell am I going to do that? Your the only Tal'Lei here. Oh, damn. Helooks like he's a man on a mission... Oh Keeva, he's locked right on us. Look at him he looks so mad! What did you do?"
Keeva whined as she peeked over the boardto confirm everything her friend had said. Then she retreated into her shoulders a bit as she said,"I, ah... I left two years ago to join the GRC without a word to anyone. It was shortly after his family has requested that I not taint my daughter with my 'high-energy'nurturing influence. I had left to continue to talk to her while also abiding by their wishes somewhat... I haven't even so much as visited in two years."
"Ah... So follow up question-"
"He would have known within three weeks that I was no longer there."

Keeva hadn't really heard or seen him since. She had thought that no news was goodnews. She was gathered in a briefing room with Poranna preparing for their next expedition in a few days. Keeva was sofocused on the presentation that she hadn'treally noticed the sound of the door opening nor the group that had come in and were posted at the back of the room. Poranna though had and as soon as she saw the menthat had come in her jaw dropped and she looked to Keeva. It was then that their officer had said as the presentation came to an end,"On this expedition we will be in contact with hostile wildlife that will attack. We have enlisted the aid of the Tal'Levian Offense to help with protecting you guys as you collectdata and research the planet.
At this Keeva turned her attention to the back of the room and looked in on her paired male who was just as pissed it seemed as hewas when he saw that she was here. She gulped and whined softly as the officer had continued one with some other thing beforehe dismissed them. Keeva had attempted to gather her things and rush out of the room while not making it seem like she was running away, until she was cut off fromleaving the room by the male rushing in and blocking her. She sighed and backed off as her co-workers were now confused by the sudden movement from the man but filed out with the rest ofhis group as well. Soon the doors to the room slid closed and it was just the two of themalone. The silence was killing her and sheswore it was an eternity. Taking a deep breath she put down her bag and looked upinto his eyes. A light pulsed from her antennas as they rose over her head before going back to laying flat on her head. Hereyes also flashed right after her. It was the greeting that her race did while betweenpaired couples. Their home was more dark and their bodies glowed a dim bioluminescent. It was a show of not being afraid to be seen by their counterpart.Though at this moment she wished that she could simply disappear.
