It had been a year since the aliens came, and still the people of Earth were unsure if this was a large, militarized force comprised of independent species or a singular hive mind. All their research and investigation was put off in favour of raw defence as tentacled abominations wrecked entire cities and wiped out large populations. Even if the alien menace wasn't intending on killing vast swaths of people, the terror and paranoia inflicted throughout the masses was enough that humanity somehow managed to cave in on itself. Firebombing operations, all in the name of saving lives, resulted in a horrible loss of life. Rumors were spread of shapeshifters and much worse that made entire countries stop trusting one another. Eventually, the alien menace had claimed the entire planet, and while most humans were indifferent to their fate or were eager to have the aliens end their pitiful existence and 'get it over with', there were plenty of young, courageous men and women willing to fight back despite the odds being stacked heavily against them.
Fiona Harper was a Lieutenant Colonel in the North American resistance, specifically within the east coast cell. She had been there when brave men and women came together to form the large resistance group and prided herself as one of the founders. For many months she ran operations against the tentacle aliens, always unsure, and counted herself lucky that she managed to survive. Most of the resistance ops ended in utter failure with most squad members being wiped out or captured. On one such operation, Fiona and her team believed that they had found a massive hive under Washington DC and, after a laborious day of carting a terrible bomb through the metro tunnels, they were set on freeing the area from this alien scum. Unfortunately, the game was rigged from the start.
Outnumbered, broken and battered by hundreds upon thousands of alien beings, Fiona was forced to detonate the bomb without retreating to a safe distance. She begged for her team to leave her as she dialed in the code to blow up this supposed hive. Fiona was determined to see this through, to make sure that the sacrifices of her teammates were not in vain and that those who survived could escape. She needed to sacrifice herself for the better of mankind, yet... yet just before she could set the bomb into motion, a wayward strike rendered her unconscious and snuffed out any threat of a massive explosion. As far as resistance high command was concerned, the operation was a horrible failure that would have terrible ramifications in the future.
The Lt. Colonel figured that she should be dead. She was barely 25 at the time and believed that it was better to die young and free than old and oppressed by some alien menace. Hours later she regained consciousness and came to realize that she was not in the metro tunnels under DC anymore- No, now Fiona found herself in some large chamber of organic design. Alien design. Her immediate reaction was to get up and run away, but Fiona found that her limbs were held down by four tendrils as she laid upon what seemed to be a stone slab of sorts.
"Oh god... N-no," Fiona cursed as she writhed against her constraints. "No no no... Wh-what're they gonna do to me?"
