Basic Concept
Hello to everyone who is reading this thread. I wanted to start out by saying that this is a very flexible theme that I wanted to explore, so if you like parts of it and want to discuss a variation of the story please let me know. This story type would involve an alternative Earth. It could happen in a historical setting, a modern fantasy setting, or a futuristic setting depending on what races you believe would be the most interesting to play.
The overall theme would be that the Earth has multiple intelligent species or races that have to learn to live together on the planet. I would think the ideal way to set this up would be to have multiple species, anywhere from four to ten species cohabiting the planet. This would be a story where there is no clear majority, and no species has control over the other. Instead, the species are all trying to find a way to gain that control, to define themselves as the dominant race on the planet by numbers alone.
To this end, inter-species relationships are looked down upon. The species have lived together for hundreds of years, and one thing is clear: two beings from different species cannot reproduce. So the problem becomes that while two individuals from different species can have sex, they can never have children together. So what is the problem? Well, the problem is that in a world where only one in ____ (depending on the number of races) men or women that you meet is of your race, the chances of finding a husband or wife that you can have children with is actually quiet low. So if there is an inter-species couple both sides will assume that they are stealing a valuable mate from the other species.
Mood of the Story
I would love to focus on two characters who are either colleagues at work, both students, or just a pair that has to meet with each other on a regular basis. They were friends for a long time, never really considering each other as a possible partner due to how society looks down on that idea. Yet one night something changes. Maybe they are drunk at a party together, maybe one of them just ended a long term relationship and the other comforts them. Either way they decide to hook up, and find that they love it. From there on they will have to find out how to both hide their relationship from everyone around them, and yet still satisfy some of their urges and desires to be together. Hopefully we can find a story where the couple starts to sneak around behind their friend's and family's backs, trying to be more and more intimate with each other while everyone around them is pushing them to date someone else.
Possible Pairings
So this is the part of the post where I want to let everyone know that I really only write male characters. I can play a female as a side character to help the plot along if it is necessary, but I prefer to write as a male. Besides that I think the rest of the story will depend on what other races would be available to write with.
I have chosen female examples for each of the species, but please let me know if you would like to play a human and have me play a male version of any of these races. The following examples are just that, examples. If you think of other species or races you want to suggest please let me know.
