For centuries, dating back long to the very first foundings of the villages and small towns, the clans of the Zael'rin - a race of large reptilian like humanoid creatures - and the Velian - humans with immense magical powers - had been at odds with each other. Through the years, there had been nothing but fighting and strife, many were killed to prove who was superior and who owned rights to the lands and territories. There seemed to be no end to the bloodshed, both clans losing more and more warriors to each other that they were close to wiping each other out.
It wasn't until the elders of both clans came together in a peaceful truce to discuss a means to finally end the war between their clans.
"Why not have a clan binding?" Ylryr - the elder of the Zael'rin - offered calmly, "We will marry the children of our most highest ranking clansmen and bring peace between our people."
"We are not royalty," Sirec - a decrepit old man who lead the clan Velian - "nor do we have nobles or riches of any kind. The best I can offer you is the daughter of our spiritual guide."
"A shaman's daughter?" Ylryr seemed to mull the idea over, "She is a powerful woman?"
"Next in line to aide our people spiritually." Sirec answered, "Though her magical prowess is not known to me."
"She will do." Ylryr confirmed with a firm nod of his head, "She will bind to the son of our hunter-chief, the strongest war leader of our people. We will hold the ceremony in a fortnight, inform your shaman's daughter, old one. May we finally end this pointless squabbling."
"Agreed, Mighty Ylryr." Sirec bowed his head respectfully as the bipedal reptile left to return to his clan.

Ifera was a fair woman, but she was not weak. She knew what she had to do, and knew how to do it. She was in her garden, picking alchemical ingredients for potions to help her people.

"My sweet child..." The voice of her mother, Ebel, sounded behind her as the aging woman approached, leaning on her cane for support, "I have most unsatisfactory news to bring from our elder..."

"No...the peace council went well...although..." She looked distraught, "I am told that...that they will be marrying you to one of their own...as a form of peace between our clans...you will live with them." Tears poured down her cheeks as her voice began to crack, "I will never see you again, my sweet Ifera..."

"He refused my pleas to reconsider the decision...! My darling, forgive me for not being able to protect you from those beasts!" She cried and held Ifera tightly, "I would not wish this on you, my dear child!"

Ifera was frozen, everything was happening so fast. Soon enough, she was being pecked and escorted over to the neighboring clan.

Seeing them all was strange and off-putting. The males were massive, all different shades of colors with scale plates and long tails and claws. The females were much smaller, though not as small as Ifera was. Their scales were simply that, smooth and shiny with impressive colors and markings - all adorned in some kind of charm or jewel to represent their status in the clan. When Ifera was brought to the clan leader's council area, there was another of the Zael'rin there with him. He was much bigger than any of the previous males she had seen, covered in thick heavy scale plates that were various colors of purple. His eyes were solid blue and bore down on Ifera almost intimidatingly, his expression hard and cold and almost hateful of her.

She returned the gaze, cold and hateful. She could not love someone such as this, she thought.

"You are the shaman's daughter?" Ylryr asked calmly, "Please, sit. Would you care for any food or drink?"

"No, thank you." She said. "I would wish to not have this.. gentleman staring at me." She said, coldly staring up at the large Zael'rin.

"Maleris." Ylryr turned his head slightly to scowl at the male, who simply rose his head haughtily to avoid looking at Ifera any longer. "Forgive him, he is as equally unhappy about the arrangement as you are."

"To ensure a peaceful union of clans, allowing the decision to decline saving the whole of your people by marrying one Zael'rin is not only selfish but disrespectful to those who have died to finally make this peace a reality." Ylryr told her, "You would damn your people to a continued eternity of suffering and death because you don't want to wed one male?"

"I never said I was going to halt the wedding, I simply stated that I wish I were given a choice. Mainly of my husband, but I'm aure he wishes the same. So, let us get on with it." She said.

"The binding will be in a few days time. Plenty of opportunity for you both to learn more of each other." Ylryr said, "Go and court her as tradition demands, Maleris." Maleris rumbled distastefully before standing and moving to roughly grab Ifera's arm, dragging her out of the building and to his home.

She grunted with every lumbering step he took, struggling to keep up. "Slow..! Down..! You..! Brute..!" She managed.

He suddenly stopped and pushed the door open to a rather luxurious looking home, "We're here." His voice was low, gruff, annoyance dripping from each word, "Tradition demands I craft you a trinket of your choosing so you may wear it and show you are the bride of a warrior. What do you want?"

He left in what she could only assume was a huff. Alone in his home gave her the chance to look around; it was a lot nicer than the home she shared with her mother back in town. There were trophy beasts placed in some areas as well as weapons and odd looking armor.

All of this was very strange, but she could not be resentful. This was for the best, wasn't it?

She was alone in his home for hours before Maleris returned, tossing a copper circlet with three emeralds into her lap, "There. You're my bride now." He said blandly.
