Madhuri Kapoor hummed happily to herself as she carried another handful of sharpened stakes to the perimeter of the abandoned farm she and her family had made their home since the outbreak. The fall of civilization had come very suddenly with an epidemic of a virulent disease which caused it's victims to become violent, flesh hungry monsters whether they became infected before or after death. Fleeing their home in the city, she and her family had found a deserted farm to make their new home, the dead were drawn to the noise of the cities and so this was the safest place for them for now and they were making good use of their time, fortifying the perimeter of the farm for when the day came that the hordes of walking corpses would come for them.

In the panic of the outbreak the Kapoor family had suffered a great tragedy, Madhuri had lost her husband and was forced to watch in horror as he was torn apart by monsters but the circumstances did not allow her allow her time to grieve or mourn him. Instead her heart and mind had closed off the part of her that loved him and her mind had created a fantasy to deal with what happened. The Kapoor family had been devoutly Christian for more than 30 years and Madhuri was now using her religious beliefs to deal with her reality and she now expounded the belief that her family had been blessed by God and was chosen to seed the new world which would rise from the ashes of the old.

Madhuri's daughter, Priyanka had tried to reason with her mother but this only made her angry and Madhuri would admonish her as being possessed by the devil, so for now she kept her silence as her mother steadily built a story which was even more detached from reality as each day passed and then she discovered something which she took as undeniable proof of their divine purpose. On several occasions during their journey, her son Raj had been bitten several times while defending her and her daughter and not only did he not turn like everybody else, his body appeared to heal very quickly from the wounds. Madhuri declared that this was a miracle and proof of her son's divinity, Raj had always been her favorite and Priyanka only saw this as another example of her mother favoring her brother but she didn't dare to contradict her, especially not in her fragile state of mind.

"Here you are, my son" Madhuri said cheerfully as she set the stakes down next to Raj who was busy driving the stakes into the ground outside the perimeter fence in order to skewer any zombies which tried to approach the farm. "It is almost sunset" she said as she touched her son tenderly on the shoulder. "We should return to the house and pray together for your sisters soul, she does not believe in you yet" she said with great reverence for the man her son had become evident in her adoring eyes.

adoring eyes.

5th of June 2023 was the date the world ended, some unknown super bug either created by man in a lab or Mother Nature’s revenge on the creatures that had raped and pillaged her. Either way all forms of government had broken down within mere weeks, panic and hysteria gripping the great state of Texas. Somewhere in there was the Kapoor family who had packed their car and driven out into the countryside, to get away from the cities of infected. Raj still remember as his father was torn apart and eaten alive, as his mother drove away watching in the mirror the only option unless they too were to be consumed.

Truth be told Raj had no idea why he was immune to the virus, after being bitten a few times he should have turned within hours, but it had been days. Instead of turning he felt more alive, more energetic as his mother praised God for delivering her son, she soon began to proclaim he was their savior, the more she did the more he too believed. Being the youngest and only son he was his favored heavily by his mother, at 17 he was quite small and scrawny standing at 4’10 exactly with a lanky brown frame. The only recent change was after being bitten, his penis had began to grow as well as his testicles giving him an insatiable sex drive, although it had yet to be sated.

With only his mother and sister around what other choice did he have, but to fuel the fires of his mothers religious utterances. “Come mother we can continue in the morning, it is time to give thanks to the Lord” he said as he got up grabbing his mothers hand. “God has commanded us you know, are you ready to do his work? We are the new Adam and Eve” he continued as they walked back to the farm house.

"Of course, we must fulfill the new covenant for this world" Madhuri said as she walked hand in hand with her son back to the farm house. "I will do whatever the Lord requires to redeem this world for all his children" she declared. Madhuri was a zealous preacher of her faith before the apocalypse and now her fanaticism grew each day, everything to her was an omen, a sign of things to come or command from her Lord.

Outside the house Priyanka who was sat in front of a wash tub, Maduri had set her the task of washing their clothes. She looked at her mother and brother walking past and tried to contain herself, she didn't like hearing her mother preaching her delusions or the fact that her brother was now caught up in them but she stayed straight faced and tight lipped as they passed by. "Good work, Priyanka" Madhuri praised her as she passed "Take joy in your work as you serve God, we are going to pray for you" Madhuri assured her. "Thank you, Mother" Priyanka forced herself to appear grateful, even if she thought her mother was insane.

The farm house was in very good condition, obviously the owners must have been away when the disaster struck as nothing had been taken from the house. All clothes were in the family's wardrobes and the pantry was well stocked with food, this too was another example of the Lord providing for them, in Madhuri's view. "Come let us give thanks" Madhuri said as she walked with her son into the main bedroom.

“We must be careful mother; the New Earth is not for everyone only those chosen by the Lord like you and me. I am his will on earth now mother I will decide who is worthy, and truly chosen to help rebuild” Raj said as they walked back to the farm house together. Raj let out a small smile as they saw their sister washing clothes in an old tin bath outside the farm house, as electricity was no longer running on the farm.

“Good job Priyanka work will absolve you of all your sins, but you must believe my dear sister. The sister of the new messiah must be faithful” he said warning his sister. Although he left before she had a proper chance to retort to him, he knew she wasn’t a true believer she attributed his survival to science some sort of mutation, which made him immune to the zombies rather than the sign from God he knew it was.

As they entered the bedroom Raj waited for his mother to get on her knees, as he started to speak “oh Lord we give thanks to you, the one true God for delivering us from Evil, we will continue to strive to do your work” Raj said as he finished the prayer to God . “Mother you must wear this if we are to mate “ he said to his mother, as he pointed out some stockings and heels he found in the master bedroom.
