They'd been doing normal couple things for once when the call had come in. They been at the movies watching the latest Marvel movie, and Cassandra's phone had been off the whole time as had Kaiden's. It had been the one time the two of them had let themselves rest and take a break from the rest of their lives to just enjoy each other's company in weeks, and the plan had been a full blown date night. Let some of the other hunters get their hands dirty for a little while, the two of them had done more than their share in recent months. As a matter of fact, the demon population and others of their ilk had greatly decreased thanks to her and Kaiden's efforts. They'd figured they'd deserved a break, and had been ready to have a nice long night disconnected from the world. At least, that had been their intention. Upon leaving the movies, though, they'd both realized their mistake. Ten missed calls on her phone and almost as many Kaiden's had let to the two of them finding out about they're mutual and very missing friend.
"Cassie, Cassie... Where the hell have you been?" It was Jordan's mother, freaking out on the other end when Cassandra finally returned her phone calls while sitting in the passenger seat of her own car while Kaiden drove.
"It's date night, Tam. What's wrong?" Of course, the sinking pit in her stomach and the fact that her friend's mother was calling more or less confirmed it could be nothing good. And indeed, good news was not on the horizon as Jordan's mother described the mess of his home and was in tears when she spoke of the words written on the walls. It had been a message for her. Jordan, her go between when it came for searching out report of demons and their kind, had been taken, it seemed because of her or, at least, her and Kaiden.
They'd rushed over to Jordan's apartment finding only Jordan's mother, to whom Kaiden went to comfort, and the messaged scrawled in blood on the walls. 'Your friend dies at dawn unless you come'. And she'd known two things then, the message had been meant for her and there was every possibility no matter what she did her friend would be dead. But it was into the night and demons weren't known for their patience. There were few options left to her. Let her friend die without trying, or walk into the trap that was undoubtedly being laid.
Pulling out a small teardrop amethyst, something that was handed down from her mother and had been handed down for generations, Cassandra Grimsdale touched the stone to what surely was her friend's blood and muttered several words. The gem glowed and spun as Cassandra pulled her hand away it pointed the direction. If the message had been left for almost anyone else, her friend would have been dead, but Cassandra and her family possessed a few skills that not every hunter held. It's how she had made a name for herself, and why her family held decent renown in certain circles. Magic ran in their veins, making them stronger and faster than most hunters as well as allowing them to hold a few tricks up their sleeves. Of course, that power had always come with a price. All those in her bloodline were basically forced to at least learn how to handle themselves from demons, as even when they tried to avoid the demon hunter life, they were magnets to their kind.
"Tam, Kaiden and I are going to go get Jordan back. You wait here. We'll let you know when we're on our way back with him, okay?" Without really waiting for a reply, she and Kaiden had left, following the direction of stone until Kaiden pulled Cassandra's car to a stop in front of a large old factory on the outskirts of town that looked to have been abandoned for a few years at least.
"Well, this looks just great. Are you sure we should go in? We only have about half the gear we normally go out with and this is obviously a trap. Hell, you're not even dressed for this today," Kaiden motioned to her outfit as she was dressed in a skirt low cut tank top. Yeah, Cassandra looked herself over and realized she really wasn't dressed for a fight, but it wasn't like she had the time to go back and get changed now. She'd had a small chunk of gear stored in her car, which she split with Kaiden and it would have to do.
"We don't have time to get changed. Who knows what's happened to Jordan even in this time frame. Besides, love, I've got you to protect me. We'll be fine," she smiled mischievously up at Kaiden, who she'd been dating, for lack of a better term, for close to a year now. He'd always proclaimed he'd protect her, but somehow it always wound up being the other way around. "Besides, when was the last time someone even remotely got close to hurting us. They took Jordan to try and throw us off our game. This is just like any other night, we go in, kill the demons, save someone, and get our reward. Simple."
Leaning forward, Cassandra kissed her lover long and hard before pulling back breathless. "Just in case." She said, to which he echoed her words. A ritual they'd done a thousand times it felt like by now, and even with the implication of their words, neither of them really believed there was reason to fear, and truth was, Cassandra had had only a few challenges since she'd started her career hunting the things that went bump in the night on her 21st Birthday three years ago. Trap or no trap, she didn't expect much of a challenge tonight. And so, armed with a blessed throwing axe, a small sword (she was glad there weren't many people lingering around), and her lover who was armed with a pair of daggers and a gun, Cassandra and Kaiden entered the building side by side.
