The spring melt had finally set in for the year as he left his small cabin just outside of town. It was a simple dwelling for a simple man, his father, and his father before he had lived there. He strode down the slightly muddy lane taking in the cool crisp air and the song of the returned spring birds in the trees nearby.
"Good morning brother Melos," a young farmer waved to him, as he went about his business preparing his farm for the melt.
Brother Melos waved back to him giving him a gentle smile. He was a very plain man of sorts, just over 6 feet tall with dark brown eyes that seemed to sparkle and a long golden brown braid that went down his back over top of his plain brown robes. But around his neck hung a shining gold pendant, a symbol of his faith and of his deity, Rite, the God of justice and protector of the weak. It was true that brother Melos was in Rite's favor, but he could only perform minor miracles for the community he called his own.
He intended to do repairs to his temple this coming tenday, and set out to speak with the townsfolk to seek out any who would donate time or materials. It also afforded him time to check on his community and to listen to any rumors in his little town. No need for the townsfolk to scare themselves over heresay and rumor.
