RE: The Cyberpunk Future - [GD x FLP]

If the religious texts from days long passed were to be believed the apocalypse should have happened by now, but it wasn't for the lack of initial intent on the part of the Gods. They had returned with the intention of obliterating all of mankind, but the mortals had developed in curious ways that they had never expected. Even as the world around them became overpopulated and polluted, the humans clung to the technological innovations that had caused it all.

The anger that the Gods felt towards mortal gave way as they saw an opportunity to increase their power in ways that they had never had before. Loyalty was given to the corporations in ways that people had once flocked to churches and religions, it was almost cult-like in the power that it drew. In a world where pure water had become scarce, Poseidon Water became a mainstay in every store and household. Women who had once flocked to temples of Aphrodite now sought out her makeup and cosmetic surgery treatments. Asclepius and his four daughters became synonymous with medicine. Even lesser revered Gods such as Leto found a place among the world as she drew expectant mothers to her.

It had been about ten years since the Gods came and found their place among the mortals, but those like Lux who came from poor families had fallen to the wayside. They could not afford the luxuries in life, but they made do. Or, they had. The vibrant haired woman was alone now in the world, poor health had claimed both her parents at a far younger age than was right.

"Did ya see which way she went?" One of the men hollered to the other as they worked their way through the junkyard, a heavy shock stick clutched in one hand.

His partner futzed with the crushed gun in his hand for a moment before he tossed it aside into the pile of scrap nearby. "Nah, got the bitch's hand, though. Cost me my fuckin' gun."

Lux could hear the two men from her hiding spot as she reloaded the gun in her lap. Her left arm was entirely metal up to the shoulder and the hand was currently inoperable thanks to the bullet that had mangled it. "Shit, shit, shit." She cursed under her breath as she rose into a crouch and listened for their location, every muscle in her body poised for the purpose of escape.

The junkyard sprung to life, lights coming on and a loud voice booming over the speakers, "I don't know who you are, or why you're here, but this is property of Hephaestus Supplies, " it said nonchalantly, "I will not be calling police, as they will not be needed," he said as the men backed up, looking nervous, "I'm gonna give you till the count of ten," the voice said as the sound of some kind of metal door slid open.

"One," boomed a voice, some how louder than the loud speakers as one of the men said something to his friend. "Two," said the voice again as the men looked around and one of them grabbed something long and heavy, wielding it like a bat. "Ten!" the voice called as a massive man stepped out. One of them charged the seven foot tall and then some man, who raised a massive silvery arm and took the blow easily. He grasped the stick with his other hand and took it from him, tossing it aside, "Get out," he said angrily, narrowing his golden eyes, his white hair showing age where his face didn't. He glared at the other man who held a gun at him and he smiled, "Really?" he said.

The man snarled, "Sit the fuck down guy, I dunno what they're paying you, but you let us get what we came here for, and I'll..." but before he could finish the man held out his hand. Metal bits from all around began to lift up and flew towards his upraised palm, eventually, even the man's gun came to him. He held it and looked at it a bit, "Ares construction, shit<" he said to them, "Listen, you're fucking with the son of a god," he said, "I saw what you were doing, I saw the terrified girl, you two go back, fuck off, and I won't hurt you! My father likes peaceful solutions,' He said to the men who both shared a glance, as the one who had attacked him with a stick backed up to his friend.

The man smiled and shrugged, "Or don't... as I said, I don't plan on calling the cops, and they don't come looking around here, we 've got plenty of money to make sure you're both disappeared, uncle Hade's always has room down at the morgue," he said to him with a grin. The two men backed off and began to bolt as a large dog slowly sauntered out from behind him, the beast had three heads, two of which were snarling, and the third panting happily. It gave chase to make sure they wouldn't return as he made his way over to the woman.

The man towered over her, "You're not leaving tonight, they'll be waiting for you, though that arm... that is complete garbage, come inside, we'll see if I can get you something better," he said to her as he offered her his hand. He looked at her with a sense of curiosity as he rolled his eyes, "I won't call the police on you, and I promise not to hurt you, I wasn't lying when I said my father would be UPSET with me if I did something like that," He said, "My name is Arsene, like the crime but not spelled the same way," he said to her, "Son of Hephaestus," he said to her, "Now either walk with me into my house, or i can pick you up and carry you," he said to her.

It was now that she noticed he wasn't...wearing much. An apron covered his front, but when he turned to the side to see his dog returning, she noted his lack of...shirt and pants? He had something on to cover his more...naughty bits of course, but the man seemed to have been getting comfortable, as referenced as well by the slippers on his feet. He pat one of the three heads and smiled, "Good puppy, go on boy, back to the house," he said as the dog, which had a scrap of what seemed to be some kind of material from one of the goon's pants.

As the lights illuminated the area and dispersed any shadows that might have been useful for hiding, Lux pressed herself against the pile of junk hard enough that she could feel the metal dig painfully into her back. Thankfully nothing sharp pressed against her flesh, she could deal perfectly fine with the discomfort so long as it didn't leave a trail for anyone to follow. She held the newly reloaded gun tightly against her side as a voice thundered over the speakers. Hephaestus. A name like that could only belong to a God and she wasn't particularly fond of them or their companies.

Her hand tightened on her gun as he began counting. From where she hid she could hear more than she could see and she heard the metallic clang as one of the thugs struck at the newcomer loud and clear. She tucked her own weapon away into her belt and slid her bag down her currently limp metallic arm so she could switch it to the other side. She needed to move, quickly, and the arm was already going to slow her down until she could get home.

The duo of loud, inhuman snarls caused her to pause. The Gods were known for their preference for mythical beasts and she was certain that this son of a God was no different. She saw his shadow before she saw him and her stomach twisted with dread as she tugged her bag into her lap. "Look, I ain't trespassin' on purpose. Those fuckers chased me here, a'ight?" She began to defend herself, her eyes quickly rising to look at him as he spoke. Her lips twisted in dissatisfaction at his words. Despite his outstretched hand, she pushed herself to rise on her own. Her garbage left arm swung loosely before her right hand came quickly to bring it to a stop. "I can fix it just fine, it ain't like it's hard or nothin'."

Even as he promised no cops she didn't ease, she didn't want to stay here longer than necessary. "Lux," Her own answer was tart and short. "You so much as try to pick me up and you're gonna need a metal leg, too. You got that, daddy's boy?" She put a little extra distance between them before she reluctantly started towards where the man had come from. There was no sense in arguing with God-kin over their hospitality.

She only glanced towards him as the dog came back, confirming her suspicion about the abnormal quantity of heads it possessed and exposing her vision to the flash of tushie from the man. Her hand quickly rose to shield him from her vision, "The fuck? Why ain't you wearing any pants?"

Arsene shrugged and smiled, "I don't wear clothes at home, you're lucky I threw on an apron," he said to her, "You're rather rude for someone speaking to a godling,' He said to her, "That's kinda funny," he said to her with a grin. He continued walking, barefoot over the scrap and nails and things, as he lead her deeper within the area. A man came around a corner, glancing at him, and stopping as he raised a hand, "I got it, thank you Sartek," he said to him. She might have noticed horns on the other man, indicating the fact he was a Minotaur as he lead her through the maze of junk till they came to a massive scrap building, the dog waiting outside it patiently for its master.

He slowly opened the massive door, and inside lay.... well, it wasn't a junk space. The floors were massive marble constructions, pillars made of granite rising to a beautifully painted ceiling. The walls were a beautful red with so many different pieces of artwork hanging on walls or sitting on pedestals throughout the area. He pointed to a massive and ornate couch next to a large crude steamer chest, something that looked out of place compared to everything else, "Sit down, I'll get you a new arm, free of charge deary, and don't think about running, its a labyrinth, and that was the labyrinths guardian, Sartek," he said to her. He smiled at her, "Any way you go you'll get turned around and sent back here," he said to her, "I don't have any magical powers, the only way I can make it through is because its been enchanted to work for me, I can't remember who did it," he said to her honestly as he pulled a massive red toolbox out from a corner.

he smiled as he made his way towards her, "Come on, sit down, you got plenty of time, this place is safe, and I can tell you don't quite like me, what with the whole daddy's boy stuff. I spent the first thirty years of my life being beaten down and scrapping by, job to job, meal to meal, with no family because daddy dearest doesn't believe in just handing out stuff. I ain't like those other folks, who's parents give them everything. You don't have to believe me, but I either made, or bought everything in this place, and while my father may own the site, and I may work for him, I am my own man," he said to her. He grunted, "I have one brother and two sisters, and all of them aren't even on earth anymore," he said to her, "Hephaestus ain't the kind of god to over populate, not like Posiedon or Zeus, " he said to her as he waited, "Put your arm up on the trunk, I'll see about fixing it or getting you a new one, its up to you which it'll be, or I can give you my tools and you can fix it yourself," he offered.

"You think I care if you're a Godling?" Lux snipped back at him. "I think that's kinda funny, too." She wasn't grinning, however, her own lips set into a stern and tight-lipped frown. She angled her walk to put distance between herself and an upcoming corner as the second man, no, Minotaur stepped into view from behind it. Her eyes stayed on the Minotaur even as they passed unhindered, an edge of distrust to her gaze.

When they reached the center of the maze and came upon a scrap building, Lux lagged behind him by a few steps in reluctance. She cast a look over her shoulder and a frown formed on her lips. It would be all but impossible to find her way back through so that crap. As she turned back to the building he had already began to enter, she couldn't help but pause in her pursuit after him.

Inside the door, it might as well have been a different world. Hell, for all she knew about the Gods it very well could have been. For as large as the building was, the inside seemed even larger. Her boots sounded foreign on the beautiful floor as she followed after him towards the couch. "Shit," She muttered, "Don't talk like you're holdin' me hostage. If I wanna go, then I'm gonna go. I don't give a flyin' fuck 'bout magic labyrinths or weird guardians Got it?" None-the-less, she sat.

"I don't need a new arm." Even as she argued that point she had allowed her normal hand to sneak under her clothes to begin disconnecting her arm. It was a painstakingly long process if one wanted to make sure the arm was still usable after the disconnect. She couldn't help but roll her eyes at him. "This might come as a surprise, but not all humans give a fuck about the hardships of Gods. We got our own shit going on."

The limp, defunct mechanical arm was placed on the trunk regardless. "I can fix it myself. Just gimme the tools and...I dunno, go do whatever you Gods do. Impregnate Nymphs or some shit." The Nymphs were the nickname for women who sought out the attentions and boons of the Gods in more old school ways. They were very popular with Gods like Zeus.

Arsene smiled as he placed his tool box next to her. The old beat up thing held the same type of old beat up tools. Each one was well worn, handles made of old scraps of leather and the like. There was nothing fancy about them as he walked away from her to a large rather plain bed and a few piles of cloth in one corner. He dug around for a moment and pulled on some boxers, then a pair of worn blue jeans. He made his way over to where she was working and pulled up a chair, "Today is my day off, I finished my work yesterday and haven't had anyone contact me with new work for a week or so," he said to her.

As he sat there the dog came over putting two of its heads in his lap as the other stared at her. He pet the two heads of the beast as he let her work in quiet. He turned and nudged the dog, getting it to move as he got up and went over to a large and old gramophone. He went through a milk cart full of sleeves next to it and placed a record on, smiling as music began to fill the room. He walked around waving his fingers as the dog ran around in circles around him, simultaneously barking and playfully growling and panting as he moved over to a large bowl in the corner. He opened the a fridge in the "kitchen," section of what was essentially just a giant open room. He pulled out a few pieces of meat and moved to the bowls, tossing them down as he yawned and got himself a glass and some kind of juice, "I'll offer you something, you hungry or thirsty? I have a lot of juice and uh... bacon? Eggs? I don't have much else right now, I need to go shopping," he said to her as he moved back to where she was sitting.

He sat back down as the dog hungrily ate with all three of its heads. He watched her work carefully as he sipped at his drink, noting every move of her hand and every movement she made. He smiled a bit as she worked, it was clear he was taking notes, but he seemed to be somewhat impressed by her work. He let her continue for a bit, getting up to bring her things she might need, a few spare parts, not saying what needed to be repaired but simply supplying her with things she had been missing for a while out of cost or simple scarcity of parts. He didn't say a word whether she took them or left them. When she had finished the work he nodded ,"Its good, you're self taught?" he asked her, "Or did you get someone to teach you? You were using techniques that most people don't even bother with and using them in very creative ways... the work you put in to keep that working without certain parts,' He said to her, "That was impressive, that you kept it working," he said to her as he stood up and dusted off his apron.

He looked over at the dog which had decided to take a nap after eating and he looked at her, "Let me make you food, yes? Something? Or do you just want to leave? I'm not sure if those men are still outside, but I'm not keeping you here against your will, "he said to her, "So...either you can stay here a bit longer, relax and talk or just... not talk," he said, "OR, I'll show you out, and hope those men don't come back...' he said to her, "Lucky for you both that you never made it that deep into my place, or this meeting would have been very different," He said to her.
