Run.
Keep going.
Think of nothing.
Rocks. Planks. Path.
The Sweltering haze of the summer hadn’t stopped Ahnika DeVow from taking her daily run down the path of the parks preserves. The largely unnoticed wetlands park at the tributaries delta marshes were what had drawn Ahnika all those years ago when she was urging her husband to buy the house. He had wanted something more expensive, but as soon as she reminded him of how he could rename the park in his name with the right backing, and how he could easily buy out the beach entrances of his neighbors he had gone along with her.
This was her sanctuary, her escape, but today it didn’t seem to be touching her. Running across the footbridge separating her estate from the park, she didn’t stop as she opened the side door and headed towards her veranda. Another of her “sanctuaries.” Her arms crossed in front of her to the loose cotton running top and pulled her arms up over her supple breasts tossing the shirt to the side as she moved.
Why do you need so many sanctuaries? The delta park trails, the veranda, the little zen deck that led down to the beach. Off went the sports bra as she kicked off her running shoes and grabbed her pale pink and white kimono wrap and a towel as she thought of what her mother might have said at such indulgences. Wasteful. Prideful. You're not calm within yourself.
Ahnika frowned as she pushed these thoughts aside as her thumbs hooked into her running shorts and pulled them down as she pushed the screen door of the veranda open and stepped out onto her deck. It’s deep red cedar planks welcomed her bare foot steps as she lifted her hands into her thick dark hair to let the air reach her neck. Her fingers tangled in the strands of dark mahogany, jade and espresso as she pulled the strands away from her dampened skin. She closed her eyes, not needing to see where she was going in her garden. The scents of orchids, lavender and cherry blossoms filtered to her nose as she stepped down from the deck towards the short path towards the beach.
A large flat black stone had been brought to the beach, and this was wear Ahnika sometimes did her yoga in the mornings. It was late afternoon now, though. The sun was still hot in the sky and she was hoping the cool waters would wash away some of her tensions. The wind was already sweeping across the lake waters to shift the light fabrics of her kimono around her, pulling the edges away from her breasts, twisting the fabric between her thighs to tug and flutter and beg to be billowing behind her.
Her own intentions stopped however as she saw shoes and a shirt and pants upon her stone slab. They certainly didn’t belong to her husband. Her turquoise gaze scanned the water and found the ripples there within. Unlike her husband who would have thrown a fit, she smiled and stilled her feet, watching for a moment as she felt her body center to the hear and now.
He seemed care free in that time before he caught her watching him. No one from town would have dared to disobey the trespass signs her husband had placed at the edge of the beach. She glanced towards the rickety dirt path towards her neighbor’s house and wondered if her neighbor had not been telling stories for once when she said she would be having visitors.
Turning back around Ahnika saw she had been noticed. Padding to the edge of the smooth stone slab she took a seat, not trying to hide her own nakedness, but not exposing herself either. She let the silk pool as it would, over her breasts but exposing her ribs and abdomen and hip on one side, while the other edge of the robe plunged down between her thighs, save for where her knee lifted. She rested her elbow upon her knee as she watched him and lifted her voice to carry out towards him. “Your Trespassing.”
Smiling, she had to stifle her giggle as she watched him a few more moments before gesturing for him to come forward. “Come on out.”
