On the surface of a Human colony by the name of Titan IV, an enormous ground and air war rages on. The invaders, the Confederated Nylin Stars attempt to secure this Human supply outpost to move their fleets deeper into Human space. The insect-like aliens could put up a good fight in the air, but they were no match for the Human ground forces. This is why the bugs had chosen Titan IV, as it was scouted earlier and it had been reported that the Humans did not have a very big garrison to defend the deep space outpost.
The bugs had not been expecting the Alpha Centauri Fleet to be refueling there on the day of their attack. Almost immediately, an all call to every Human ship within forty light years of Titan was warned of a massive Bug invasion occurring on Titan, the fleet readied themselves for space combat and immediately deployed their Marines to the ground in order to defend the surface, as unless the Human fleet outnumbered the enemy ten to one, the odds were not in Humanity's favor. The Human fleet was slightly larger than the Bugs, but this didn't matter because of the enemy's advanced technology. Once ground forces were deployed, the fleet had valiantly defended civilian evacuation ships to the edge of Mass Lock, the invisible field surrounding planets that prevented ships from going into hyperspace. During this escort, around a quarter of the human fleet and several civilian ships were decimated, but with the majority of Titan's population off of the planet, the majority of the Human ships could begin to retreat back to the planet surface, the Bug fleet would not follow them there.
Lance Corporal Ryan Reed was one of the first to hit the deck on Titan, he had scrambled with his platoon to the major population center on Titan, New London, which contained around twenty million citizens before the evacuation. With human ships in full retreat, the battle would be focused on the ground, as the Bugs did need the surface of the planet intact in order to store and repair their fleets in this sector of space. They would just have to hold the surface until another Human fleet arrived to relieve them. The Bugs would wait for a little while, firing their orbital cannons into the city to try and kill as many Humans as possible before the invasion would occur. This meant that the human ships on the surface were bombarded until they sank to the surface and detonated, though most of the crew had already escaped.
The next few days of combat were brutal, the Bugs landing to secure the city but failing in several attempted assaults, as the human forces excelled especially in defensive tactics. Within another day, a much larger fleet had come to assist the humans on Titan, and the bugs were swiftly kicked off of the planet and destroyed in space. Lance Corporal Reed and his platoon were assigned to a new ship as theirs had gone down with the rest of their original fleet, and soon sent to investigate another lead on a Bug attack.
He stands in front of the mirror in his new Bunk, staring at himself as he shaves his face, which had grown rugged from a few days of combat. He has very handsome and refined features, two hazel-green eyes staring back at him from his reflection and black hair that had been cut down to a 'High and Tight' buzzcut. He decided that he would go hang out with a few of his buddies, which quickly turned into a boxing match in their ship's gym. The ship that they had been assigned to was not only the pride of their new fleet, but was a new state of the art Battleship that contained the most advanced technology that Humanity had to offer.
