So, I haven't really ever had a journal/blog/diary or whatever before. Mostly because I've never really given a crap. Before I begin, let me state my curriculum vitae. I am an early adult-something dude named Justen who lives in San Jose, California, which is both the nerdiest and most boring city in the face of America, or at least in my opinion. I make a day living working part time as a civil employee, and make enough to live comfortably. In my off time, I roleplay, play games, and do a bit of my own writing, mostly pertaining to supernatural mysteries.

Tonight, I'm going to talk to a subject that is very close to my heart; books. I've loved books since I was young and I first was read The Hobbit at nights. I've read more books than I could ever hope to count, and try to go through a book a week. I may indeed post some reviews up here. But the thing I want to drag out tonight is this.

I just don't like women writers.

Not personally, or anything. My mother is an author. But honestly, I just can't find any I like! This is really a problem, considering that about half our population is of the fairer sex. And I love women, nearly praise them as the stronger of the two(which I believe as a whole you female folk can be). But maybe I'm just missing something, because I can't like anything that female writers put out. Granted, I'm looking just from recent memory(it being incredibly frayed usually), but I can't remember the last book I really enjoyed that was written by a woman. For the past few months, I've been on an urban fantasy spree, and sampled three lady authors who write in the genre; Laurel K. Hamilton, Kat Richardson, and Kim Harrison. All left me with a very deep lack of enjoyment. Out of several books I read from these three women, I just couldn't really respect the main characters or really feel that the plots were that well-run.

I don't know, maybe I'm reading the wrong stuff. Recommendations are always welcome. I'm a fantasy/sci-fi/mystery addict, so if you've got recommendations for female authors who might alleviate this slump I have in this section of literature, please share. :)

So, for those of you who don't really know me(which is a lot of you), I write a paranormal/supernatural mystery series. But that's not really the point. No, this is about research-and how I just love the internet. I needed to find a monster for my latest story today when I was working at a coffee shop. I always need new monsters.

Now, I usually have a humongous encyclopedia of monsters, but that's a big thing to go lugging around all the time. So, I googled "encyclopedia of monsters"...and I found a whole wiki. Thank the Omnissiah for wikis, that's all I got to say.

Okay, so, something that I just don't get...why does it always have to be about doms and subs?

A few weeks ago, when I posted an ad on another site for a RP involving a guy who inherits a haunted house, and I got a response asking if it could be a slave he inherits instead of ghosts. Needless to say, my answer was "Mmkay...no." I honestly just don't like this whole master/slave stuff. I think it's so boring, usually. I'm not into it at all, and don't get why people aren't satisfied with two people in a relationship who are equals. Why's there always got to be a 'dom'? Categorizing characters like this just seems...I dunno, limiting.
