The Duchess's Bosom rocked and swayed in the night's sea, on its steady course to Queensport, largest city in the Reach. In a shadowy, secluded corner of the hold, Adrian Caster laid in a swinging hammock, attempting to meditate on the events that brought him here, as well as the visions that had dragged him from his fitful slumber.
In his sleep, he had seen Teleyna, the Lady to whom he'd pledged his life. Lady of the Divine Blood, Lady of Farsight, who meant everything to the Veil Keepers. He'd been the Keeper tasked with keeping her safe, and had failed. Now, she was gone, and he was exiled unless he could return with her safely.
He had also seen Lyanna, his sister. Also a lifelong member of the Veil Keepers, she was a graceful but deadly warrioress who'd left on a mission several years ago, never to return. He saw dark, terrible but formless things wrapping her in their clutches, as she screamed in terror.
Before sleep left him, he'd glimpsed one more visage. This was not of an elf, nor a half-blood like he was. This was a woman whom he had never seen before, not in his life. She was stunning, with hair like platinum wires, and eyes like two orbs of jade. Her face was like a princess's, save for faint scars on her cheek and jaw, and the plate armor she wore was intricately detailed and accentuated her feminine form. This vision lingered in his eyes as he had come to consciousness, leaving him here to ponder it while he waited for the dawn to break.
