Monstrous Partners: What's Sexy About Them?

One thing I've seen consistently in the request forums is a desire to play a monster or opposite a monster. Sometimes portrayed as cute and hyper-sexualized, such as the Monster Girl Encyclopedia, or deliberately going the opposite direction, usually paired off against a female character. Werewolf/shifter erotica is dominating on Amazon and now Dragon shifters are everywhere I look. A few years ago there was a huge hubub about dinosaur porn.

So my question, for anyone and everyone who's willing to discuss, is what is sexy about monsters? What are your favorite types and why? What features in your fantasies? I'm genuinely interested in learning what everyone's favorites are and what turns you on about them. Are there any that aren't conventional that you wish showed up in more or that people would play as more? How much of the attraction is a physical thing and how much is a psychological/emotional thing?

Thank you for your time.

Oh, goodie! I can answer this one!

It's easy!
They're not sexy.
There's nothing sexy or sensual about a monster and that is why I, personally, enjoy them in my role-play. Sure, some can be sexualized, but for the most part it isn't about that.
Fear is a very potent aphrodisiac in my book and I find that the right element of fear can go a long way in regards to "sexy". The type of monster dictates the fear.
werewolves - will he fuck her or eat her alive?
demons - will he kill her or rape her to death?

it's fear. it's uncertainty.

for some, it's taking away the fear from something. i've often written smut about monsters i've encoutnered in my vivid nightmares and it has helped me to get through them. sexualizing something takes away the sting of fear of the thing itself. it's hard to be terrified of pennywise, for example, if he's sexy pennywise.

does that make any sense?

Thank you for your reply.

It does make sense, actually. If I'm understanding you correctly, if has very little to do with the physicality of the monster and everything to do with the psychology. It's like the kidnap fantasy or the fascination with serial killers. These are just "human" monsters.

Any thoughts on the physicality then? Such as why some types are considered sexier than others?

Physicality, for me, depends on other kinks have.
I thoroughly enjoy stretching/large cocks so it's pretty hand-in-hand with werewolves (knotted cocks). I also have a thing about blood and teeth, so sexually vampires are extremely sexy.

And tentacles.
Because tentacles.

It's all just preferences and sexual attraction, which is an odd thing in and of itself.

I'm with Bear on certain aspects of her first response. I adore monsters and I generally hold distaste for the hyper-sexualized ones, then again I'm not really a fan of hyper-sexualized stuff in general. Just the other day I was looking at art for female demons for some world building I was doing, and most everything I was finding were big boobs with horns in bikini, it was pretty off putting. Give me scaley, scarred, mottled or veiny, muscles, hulking figures and grotesque shapes. For me the allure comes from the mystery and as Bear said; the fear.

Physicality can still come into play, there can still be desirable aspects. Piercing eyes, innocent/charming smile? I have a thing for butch/muscular women. So a female demon or monster who is thick and broad can immediately catch my eye even if say it's skin was covered in flesh rending barbs, and had a mouth full of lascerating teeth. I'm fond of the gentle monster trope, so the idea of encountering a monster like I described and falling inlove, even if unintentioned it would cause harm and I find navigating a story like that thrilling.

Aside from all that though, all physical stuff aside, I enjoy the morality aspect of such stories as well. Say virtuous knight falling in love with an evil blood thirsty vampire who has no regard for human life save for the knight, and ofcourse going from the opposite angle as well where the monster is pure of heart and the human is not.

But anyways, TL : DR = <3 Monsters

A monster in a horror game? Sure. But it will remain platonic, even you, Cthulhu ;)

I also find that some level of fear can be really arousing - I still need physical attraction.

What I'm hearing is--and please correct me if I'm wrong--is that the type of monster doesn't necessarily have any bearing. What is exciting is the tension generated by uncertainty and conflict.

With the possible exception of Bear's tentacles--gangbang without the gang?

I wonder how thoroughly this would apply to monstrous females? You're right, Raina, it is very hard to find any that aren't made up to be deliberately sexualized. So here's a potentially dangerous question--do you think that this is more to appeal to men (decidedly visual creatures) or women (who want to be seen as desirable). I recall an article from a few years back about the absence of minority women taking the lead in the romance genre, which claimed that this was due to reader's inability to relate to different characters. I personally think that's the result of lazy writing rather than a fault of the readers' if a character is unrelatable, but do you think that this perspective could be having as much an impact on sexualizing monstrous female characters in art and literature as men simply being lustful, if not more so?

I would still love to hear from anyone else who has thoughts on what attracts them to monsters. Moving forward with the psychological aspect, however, would you say that there is a particular element (other than fear) that are particularly attractive in a monster, such as power, manipulation, savagery, loyalty....what makes for your ideal monster?

So what makes a monster attractive to you then? Or would make a monster attractive to you?

I have never been the kind to be attracted to Monsters. But lately I find myself more and more drawn to them. Zombies in particular.
I think there's a few aspects that have me intrigued (besides the fear):
1) There's no need for banter, for back and forth, for flirting, for denying, for coercion, blackmail... you simply dont NEED any of these ingredients (and I am QUITE fond of those ingredients, don't get me wrong)
2) There's no need for "guilt". If a human male "rapes" you... it should be a bad thing. If a monster with the sole purpose in life to kill, eat and fuck fucks you... no big deal.
3) To make it even MORE "guilt free" smut rp, the Monster can have ANY "magical" "supernatural" "chemical" whatever traits that you can imagine. Look, it's not MY fault I am cumming, the monster has "cum chemical" on it's tentacles!
4) No need to be ashamed of "weird" kinks. "I only want to have sex with cocks that are exactly this size, this diameter and have spikes on the head"... yeah. Strange for a human male... great for a monster.
5) The whole "emotion" thing can be left out. A monster doesn't need to fall in love with me. It doesn't have to find me attractive. I don't have to think about what the monster might expect as a reaction. I can reduce the entire roleplay to the sole purpose of fucking... with every reaction i -want- my character to have. I want to cry? Great, the monster wont care. I want to laugh hysterically? Great.. the monster wont care. I want to scream in multiple orgasms and beg the monster to never stop? Great... the monster wont care. It wont give a fuck about what i scream or do, it will do whatever it likes, without guilt, without regret, without shame. Pure, blissful, sexual energy.

Sounds shallow? Ummm.. yeah. Rereading this it does. :/

In a single word: power. At least from the dominant perspective, anyways. Playing as a monster is a power trip because you're playing as an inhuman creature who, presumably, is stronger and more intimidating than a human could be. Taking on inhuman aspects - larger size, broader frame, scary teeth, inhuman cock, etc - are all different expressions of dominance in a way that's just not physically possible in real life. It's part of the escapist fantasy, after all. Conversely, if I'm playing a human dominating a monster, there is also power in that. After all, what's a bigger rush than being a normal-ass dude who's able to make a sexy monster lady weak in the knees at the thought of you going rough on her? When playing the monster as the dominant partner, you imagine yourself as an exaggeration of your dominance: you play in a form that resembles the role you take sexually. When dominating a monster, the monster itself is a symbol of your dominance: even though you are a normal human, you control and can fuck a creature that could destroy anyone else if it really wanted to, but not you because you know how to make it want you.

Hope that helps to answer your question, at least from the kinkier side of things.

The power difference is one of the reasons I like playing against monstrous partners. Add in intelligence (it doesn't have to be an insanely smart character) and you've got me hooked. I enjoy watching the power struggle as MC tries to gain an upper hand in a situation that they should be entirely dominated in. It's a delicate dance not unlike concubines who rose to became Sultan and Emperor/Empress.

I enjoy the idea of monster girls sometimes (and in one instance I played a monster man.) Sometimes it's a power thing (whether raw power or some special ability,) as suggested here. Less guilt attachment can also be applicable. But most of the time it's definitely a matter of the hyper-sexualized monster types, for exactly what it is: a hyper-sexual being. As per why that's attractive? I would have to point you to this Google Talks, "A Billion Wicked Thoughts." For those not interested in watching a 48 minute video, the summary is basically this: certain body parts trigger a sexual stimulus in the brain when visualized. Namely, breasts, butts, and penises. Supposedly, vagina as well, but because of the nature of how these researchers gathered their data, they could not conclusively state that. Anyways, once you start viewing these just to trigger your libido and train yourself to that, hyper-sexualizing them just leads to more stimulation as well. In general though, men are more inclined to be visually stimulated than women.

I have a book titled "Come As You Are," by Emily Nagoski Ph. D. that goes over some of the stats. It's a pretty good book. A female sex-psychology book written for laywomen by an female sex psychologist. It has some statistical data in it that pretty much confirms that (in general) the male "sexual excitation system" tends to be higher with a lower "sexual inhibition system," (metaphorically termed accelerator and brakes within the book) while women are generally flip flopped (SIS being more active than SES.) That said, it is only a general thing, not to be confused with normal, as being anywhere on the spectrum is normal. Context can matter a lot too (again, less so for men, more so for women, but only in general.)

So when I put those two bits of data together, it pretty much tells us what most of us have already assumed: guys tend to be more visually stimulated (and as such, more media for that gets pumped out since it actually generates a response.) So it's not a surprise we get a bunch of sexualized female monster girls.
