An Intro
If you've clicked into this thread it for one of two reasons. Either you know what Tech Noir is, in which case, CONGRATULATIONS! PM me NOW and lets get started!
Or you've never heard of the genre before and saw the words 'Tech' and 'Noir' and wanted to know what the deal was. In that case, keep on reading for some more insight and some fun visual references as well as some plot hooks to what I'm hoping to accomplish.
What the hell is it?
Tech Noir, also sometimes called Neo Noir, is a type of sci-fi that draws very heavily on the tropes established in classic film noir detective stores along with the those found in sci-fi. The stories are generally set is sprawling
high tech cities similar to one seen in Cyberpunk stories, but with a quick coat of Retro Futurism applied for good measure. These worlds are full of all manner of colorful characters from stereo typical gangsters and crooked cops. beautiful femme fetals,
aliens, robots and all kinds of other strange and wondrous things.
I'm looking for a simple story with room to grow, a detective dragged into a strange adventure where anything can and DOES happen. Where nothing is off the table.
Sex, violence, the works, all have their place in this story. For a better idea of the tone I'm going for check out Ralph Bakshi's CRIMINALLY underrated 1996 HBO animated series Spicy City. Seriously all the eps are right there on youtube.
