Seth was one of the best players on the soccer team, he was known as the trickster with how fast and mobile he could be with the ball at his feet. Training every day and night just to become the best, he wasn't going to fall behind the others. It was another good reason for his training was because he was rather short. He wasn't the tallest player...for a matter of fact he was the shortest!

Everyone was around six feet tall, strong looking and cool. Seth was around five foot five, because of this everything was usually a joke about his height. He wasn't one to let it get to him, rather he was really popular around the school because of his achievements on the field.

The only problem was his grades, he hated to study and usually got the worst of the class. It wasn't much of a problem until his teachers had come to him, if he didn't the following exams and get a passing grade. They were going to take soccer away from him.

Seth didn't even know what he was going to do, what could be done? They suggested he find a tutor, but everyone was so busy with there lives. He needed the most help to catch up as he heard about a student who was the top of the class who liked to read. The student was usually around the library. Giving him the hope he needed, Seth would dash off at top speed and slammed the door open causing a massive slamming sound. Trying to find the student, whoever they may be!

"Who here likes to read!" He said at the top of his lungs only causing many of the students to raise there hands.

"....Ahh what did the person look like?" Seth would say to himself, as he tried to remember who the person was. Forgetting what the girls said, something about being huge? Maybe it was a tough guy with a heart for studying? Now people were looking towards him as he was causing a scene and the librarian was going to wack him with a ruler.

Amelia is a quiet girl, one that prefers a written world over the one she has to endure. It is sad to say, but her life is… not pathetic, per se, but something close. It is easy to dive into a realm that exists nowhere else but between the pages of a book, instead of… pretending she is interested in quadratic equations, or memorizing a list of… steps for… something or another. It is for this reason she is often at the library.

Most girls average to be about five foot five, five foot six. Amelia, on the other hand… stands a full four inches taller. A few find it to be daunting, even intimidating, but she just sees it as a curse of genetics. It has to be a… contribution from her father’s side of the family, or else, she would be a petite height of five foot three instead.

The only problem is that, because of her shy nature, and because of her height… she has trouble reaching out to people. Not only that, but it has seriously… prevented her from developing any sort of coordination that sports requires. In other words: Amelia is failing physical education.

It is not as though she can hire a tutor, either. It is humiliating enough as it is that she is failing a class that is, by unanonymous vote, one of the easiest classes to pass. Amelia has no idea what to do. It is driving her insane, too. Maybe it is best, though, to admit defeat. A soft sigh leaving her lips, Amelia reached to pull a book off the shelf, flipping it over to read the brief description on the back. It sounds interesting… A finger tapping on the cover, Amelia was about to tuck it into the crook of her arm, when… someone disrupted the peaceful quiet of the library by shouting, of all things.

Is that a redundant question? Does he not realize where he is? Amelia cast a curious glance about, not altogether surprised to find so many hands raised.

Ever so slowly, she herself lifted a hand. It is true; she likes to read. Is he looking for a tutor, then? It seems so. Amelia rolled her shoulders nervously, a hand fiddling with the end of a braid. Eyes the color of caramel looked to the boy again, only to find the librarian approach, with a ruler in hand. Uh oh. At this rate, he is going to be kicked out. “We all… like to read,” Amelia spoke up, feeling as though she has stepped into the spotlight. “Do you… need help with something?” Amelia tilted her head then, a few threads of dark brown falling against a pale cheek.

Seth would be looking around the library with his hands cupped around his eyes. Making a pair of binoculars as if he was on a safari, looking for the person that was the answer to his problems.

Many of the people were just looking away from him, the librarian was going to kick him out again. Everyone was raising there hands as his question as he just frowned at the answer. Not all of them were huge at all, it had to be a guy. It was the most logical answer until someone got through his tunnel vision.

Turning his attention to the girl that was right next to him. Turning towards her he was looking towards her chest as he realized that she was tall! Blushing a little as he wasn't trying to be rude. His eyes were shocked by her height as he slowly looked up at her face.

"Woo your huge!" He said without even censoring his words. Seth wasn't the type to hold back his words for better or worst. "....People do like to read." He said sounding a little dumb at that moment.

"Help?...Yes, I'm looking for a tutor! I need it to not be kicked off the soccer team. Can you help with me with that, I can give you whatever you want!" He said being loud again as the librarian was giving them the stink eye now.

Just as she thought - he is looking for a tutor. Amelia is not surprised, though she did not expect him to be so… blunt as far as her height goes. A nervous hand again began to play with the end of her braid, eyes looking anywhere but at him. “I, ah… I do not know…” Light pink graced the poor girl’s cheeks, going so far as to travel down the curve of her throat.

“I assume… that you are looking for a tutor in English?” In other words, any of the students here can help. Amelia swallowed past the lump in her throat, her heart racing entirely too fast for her liking. “I… I do not think I can help…” Amelia found the words to say, only to grip onto the books she was holding a tad bit tighter. “There is not anything I want or need… and… I would not be a good tutor as it is.”

Her lips curving into an apologetic smile, Amelia looked to the librarian giving them both the evil eye. “I do suggest, though, that you be quiet while in here,” Amelia continued on to say, even lifting a finger to press it against her lips. “Mrs. Weaver likes the quiet, as do we all… so, if you are going to look for a tutor, do it more quietly.”

A soft chuckle residing in the back of her throat, only to escape seconds later, the girl placed a hand on his shoulder to give him a pat of encouragement. “I am sorry I could not help,” Amelia told him, though it is somewhat of a lie. Deep down, she is glad she found a way of turning him down without being rude or impolite. Just the idea of tutoring someone… makes her blood run cold.

“Good luck.” Amelia flashed him a smile that is a tad bit more confident about the edges and, after a little wave, went to check out her books. Perhaps it is best that she leaves, before he gets everyone in trouble for being so loud...

Seth watched her every facial feature, he wasn't the smartest when it came to books. Yet, he was more skilled with his natural athlete trained eyes and body. He noticed every little thing about her, how nervous she was and the way she was trying to put him off.

She didn't look like the popular type, now that he got a better look at her. He heard rumors about her height, how some would joke about it and how she seemed to delicate to touch. When he saw something big it would be to throw around, can handle anything and strong. All he could do was stand there waiting for her answer, trying to understand her body language.

When she patted his shoulder, his emerald green eyes wouldn't look away from her as if to try and see right through her. "Nonsense, you have helped more then enough." He said making it very clear that he was happy to meet her. When she did try to pull away from him, he held her hand as if to pull her back. She would notice that he was much stronger then he looked despite being smaller then her. "I already found my tutor, it's going to be you. My friends spoke highly of you, but they also said your bad at gym." Seth would say bringing up another good point to try and trap her.

"Plus, if you don't I will only keep coming around like a lost puppy till you accept. I believe you can teach me! So lets put some backbone into you." Seth said smiling even brighter that it glowed like his blonde hair, as he didn't let go of her hand. He was indeed blunt, but could be crafty or even annoying to get rid of once he has someone in his sights. He was a lead blocker and striker in soccer, his job was to never let someone escape him no matter the cost. "I won't take no for an answer." He said once more very bluntly staring right into her eyes without even a glimpse of backing down.

Wh-What? No! Is he implying that she-? Amelia’s heart leapt into her throat, just to take residence there… as if the cage of bone which usually protects it is no longer good enough. Her stomach flipped over, too, though that is not helping matters any. How is he so strong-? His head barely touches her chin! Panic flashed over the girl’s features, went off in those caramel brown eyes of hers. A small, almost indiscernible shake of the head caused pieces of hair to brush against her suddenly pale cheeks.

The hand held captive in his tensed, the fingers curling ever so slightly. “E-E-Excuse me?” Amelia blurted out, trying to pull away… and failing. “I… I do not recall agreeing! I-I-I am not your tutor!” What? How did he know-? Indignation licked at her features this time, dark pink spreading over her nose once again, burning the tips of her ears. “Please. Let me go,” Amelia pleaded, her voice quiet, barely louder than a whisper. “I may be bad at gym, but nothing can be done. No amount of… tutoring can help with being vertically challenged.”

More humiliated than she can possibly put into words, Amelia tore her gaze away, looking anywhere but at him. “I… have a backbone,” she told him, in no uncertain terms. “It is called a spine. It is a… vertebral column of twenty-six bones. Each are separated by cartilage, and… I can tell you a great deal about it, but I have a spine. So if you do not mind, I would like it if you let go of my hand. You… You will not follow me like a lost puppy, or will I… see you again, unless it is because we are in the same class. Do you understand me?” At this point in time, Amelia had began to tremble, tears stinging her eyes, threatening to fall.

Amelia has no idea what else to say. Does he not understand? No way can she tutor him, nor does she want to. “You… are going to have to take no for an answer,” she finally found the words to say, lifting her gaze up from the floor to look at him now. “Please. Ask anyone else to be your tutor. I do not want to be your tutor… and… I will not be… a good tutor, so it is in your best interest to look elsewhere.” Amelia swallowed past the lump in her throat and, ever so slowly, she went to take another step back. For some reason, he still feels the need to hold her hand, to keep her as she is. Why-?! Please! Just let go!

He wanted her to feel a new light hit her, a person that wanted to be right next to her and they would work together to solve any issue that came there way. It was the perfect plan, until well she tells me something else. Seth would listen to her reply, she wasn't trying to have it. Seth would blink a few times at the mention of letting go, but she would find out he was the type to do the opposite of what he was told.

She tried to pull away from him, her eyes would redden at the mention of her problems with the class. He still didn't say anything as she mentioned that she could never do it. Seth would just let her finish, trying to collect the info....but when she spoke of the spine and verteb....something. He would look a little worried, confused, and didn't know what she was talking about. Then finally said that she didn't want any part of tutoring to better herself....it really made him snap a little at the way she looked at herself.

"No amount, huh? How can you say that without even trying?" He said a little pissed at this point, as he would make her look at him more now. "I'm small, the shortest guy at this school probably and I'm the best soccer player on the team. No amount of work? I ran my body into the ground to compete with taller people around your height and I come out on top!" Seth would yell a little as the librarian was taken back by his outburst, as were everyone else in the library. "All your doing is running away from your problems, start acting like a strong amazon." He said taunting her and making a reference to her height.

Seth would then just sigh as he let go of her, then took off running. It would prove how fast he was as he disappeared in almost a blink of an eye. Leaving her to own thinking of what his might have impacted on her, he was already down the hall. When he would hear the sound of no running down the hall, as he rushed past some teachers. This wasn't over, not by a long shot.

...

The next day she never saw him around school, they didn't have many classes together. He was pretty small as well, getting lost in the swarm of people in the crowds. She might never know when he might pop out, but around one of her classes. Nearing the end of it, he would come out of nowhere.

Sliding the door all the way open causing a large "Bang!" To echo throughout the room as he was there looking around the room, as if the whole school was on fire. "Ah there you are Amazon. Been trying to figure out your schedule, but we got the same lunch period. So it's great!" He said as many of the other students were now talking with each other, rumors were going to be spreading at this rate and the teacher would look at the kid.

"What the hell are you doing! Class is still in session." He would yell at Seth.

"But your class is so boring, plus it's almost over. Let me get Amazon and I will leave." Seth said with playful smirk as some of the other students were laughing at his comment.

Today is… peaceful. No one is bothering her, no one is… hounding her relentlessly, none of the above. Perhaps he gave up. Perhaps he realizes how futile it is, or how… silly it is to pursue her as a tutor. Amelia can only hope. Is it too much to hope as much? Perhaps she needs to keep her fingers crossed. Her eyes glanced at the clock, knowing it is too early to hope, especially since school has barely begun for the day.

It was not until pre-calculus that the normal routine was… disrupted, and by a certain blonde boy. Math may not be her favorite subject, by any stretch of the word, but never did she wish for this to happen. Amelia was tapping her pencil against the edge of her desk, to a song that is stuck in her head, when he decided to take it upon himself to… dismiss her from class, as though he has every right to do so. At first, she could only be… astonished by his audacious behavior, to look at him like he has lost his mind… which he very well could have.

Once the shock wore off, Amelia could feel nothing but rage. How dare he-! Her fingers tightened on the pencil, to the point where she thought it may break in two. It required everything she has not to throw the thing at his head. No, the idea of stabbing it in his eye is much more appealing. Drawing in a deep breath to put the violent impulse to rest, Amelia let out a long, exasperated sigh, only to look at him right in the eye. “First of all, my name is not ‘Amazon’. I would appreciate it if you do not refer to me as such,” Amelia began with, first and foremost. In order to hand it to him, she needs to start somewhere. This is as good of a place as any.

“Second of all, I would appreciate it if you did not interrupt our lesson. I may not like math, and I am sure a great many people here will agree with me on that, but I have to learn matrices if I am to pass our next test. So please: get out!” Amelia slammed a hand down on top of her desk then, lifting herself up from her seat so she is bent over, giving him a glare that was glacial. It was almost possible to feel the temperature drop several degrees. “I told you to leave me be!” It is odd, how… she is not shy when infuriated. It is as though all inhibitions melt away… or is better to phrase it as freezing?

It was all going to his plan so far, thinking that she would be shy about these issues and agree to his ploy. He wasn't going to let up over one night, it wasn't like him at all. So watching her reaction was like music to his ears, she seemed to grow a back bone that many of the students around her were surprised. She didn't seem very often, but here she was going toe to toe with a student they all knew could never shut his mouth. Running through the hallways at top speed, laughing, and causing trouble like he owned the place.

He was amazed by her reaction, when she slammed her hand on top of her desk. The loud echo of the impact could be felt throughout the room, as the teacher was at a lost of words. Seth on the other hand had a gleam in his eye, smirking at her reaction. "That's the reaction of a true amazon!" He said as he rushed over to a desk near her own and climbed on top of it. So that he was the one overlooking her with all the class in shock and awe of his actions. "I will make you my, so stop trying to fight it!" He said making such a claim about the both of them. He was merely talking about her being his tutor, but to the others.

It was a claim of love! In a such a world where the taller girl and shorter boy would never work out, against all odds. Maybe of the students were now going to spread the tale of romance throughout the school. The Amazon and the kid were going at it from all angles, as the teacher would finally snap out of his trance. "That's it! The both of you to the principals office right now. This isn't a place to talk about your personal lives!" He yelled at the top of his lungs expecting the both of them to do as they were told.

“Excuse me? Not only are you being inconsiderate, but rude as well!” Amelia hissed, features taking on a hint of pink as excited whispering broke out amongst her fellow students. As strange as it sounds, even the tips of her ears feel hot. “Please, just leave me be! I do not want to discuss this any further! All I desire is to be left alone!” Does he not understand?! Amelia thinks she is being very articulate on how she feels on the matter. Is English not his first language? Perhaps she needs to elaborate in Spanish, or French, or… a different language entirely!

How does he get away with barging into class, interrupting the lesson? Is the teacher not going to do something-? Amelia’s nails bit into her palms, frustration bubbling in the pit of her stomach, not unlike acid. Right as she was about to demand -in the guise of asking politely- that the teacher dismiss Seth, he beat her in the act of speaking up. Taken by surprise, Amelia blinked, her lips parting. Is he serious? Why must she go to the principal’s office, too? Dark brown eyes bright with a fury that cannot -or should- be put into words, Amelia gathered her things together before going out into the hallway. How dare he-! Left alone, Amelia whirled about to glare at the culprit of this unforeseen incident.

“I cannot believe you! He was in the middle of an important lesson, and you had the nerve to barge into class and interrupt him! If you think I could be swayed to be your tutor because of your brash behavior, think again! I told you before, and I will tell you again: I want nothing to do with you! Now, if you will excuse me, I have to visit the principal’s office because of your recklessness.” If looks could kill, Seth would be dead a long time ago; he is lucky that is not the case. Amelia spun on her heel, going down the hallway so she may receive punishment for something that is not her fault. Oh! The nerve of him!

Seth would look towards the amazon woman with a unwavering smile, despite her monstrous look that would kill most men. He didn't shy away from her with his crystal blue eyes as she yelled at him. Trying to make it seem like she wasn't going to help him, if she was going to think that he would stop. She had another thing incoming! Seth had a plan that would come into fruition soon enough as he followed her to the principal office.

"You got to calm down, Amazon. People are going to think your the crazy one abusing little old me." He said teasing her as his voice didn't really change at all. He was beyond calm in this situation despite the trouble he was in. This was just another day in his life, causing trouble was in his blood and personality was one that many admire about him. When they reached the door, he would open it for her and wink at her. "Here you go, my lady." Seth had changed to a nicer person as he held the door open for her to enter the office.

It was here that an elderly man was looking over some papers, trying to think of what to do next on some matters. When he heard the voice of the person and then who came into his office, he would stare in disbelief. "....Mr. Mooncrest, I understand why you might be here again." He said pausing for a moment before his gaze turned towards her. "Miss Kendrick, I would have never expected you to be the center of trouble." The principal would say as he motioned them to come in as he folded his hands under his chin to listen to her claims. "So tell me, what seems to be the problem....could this be a lover quarrel?" He asked hoping to get an answer from her that was straight to the point, as he got a laugh from his own joke.

Amelia sat down in the seat before the principal’s desk, as if it was second nature, though that is far from the case. No, deep down… she is incredulous, and flabbergasted she is here at all. Did the teacher not realize the situation she was in? That Seth is harassing her, and she did not bring this on herself? Hands brushing over her skirt nervously, Amelia lifted her gaze up from the floor… only to scoff at the wild speculation, even though a light pink blush did make an appearance upon her features.

“No, sir. Far from it,” Amelia began by saying. “Ever since yesterday, Seth has been… hounding me to be his tutor. I turned him down, however, he refuses to take no for an answer. I do not know why he felt compelled to barge into the classroom and disrupt the lesson, or why I was told to come here as well… but I strongly believe I am not to blame.” Normally, she is not so straightforward, or so… so… cold, but this Seth is getting on her nerves at this point. How many times must she tell him no?! Amelia swallowed past the lump in her throat, butterflies fluttering in the pit of her stomach now.

“I do not want to cause any trouble, sir, but I would like it if I was left alone. I do not want to tutor him.” Amelia’s fingers curled into the fabric of her skirt, gripping on lightly. “Seth interrupted the lesson, and I did not know about it beforehand. If I may go, as to get back to the lesson, I would greatly appreciate it.” Not once did Amelia glance over in Seth’s direction, nor did she feel the least bit bad about turning him in. It was his own fault he is going to get in trouble, not hers. Amelia did not invite this… unwarranted attention from him, not once. If anything, she would prefer it if he leaves her alone from now on.

The principal would be listening to her side of the story, taking in every inch of detail about it. Seth's behavior was one that leads to crazy stunts, it was hard enough for him when he was trying to impress a girl. He was expecting something similar, but this time it was different as he wanted her to be his tutor. It was a big step from the normal attitude he gave everyone around him.

"Mr. Mooncrest, is this all true?" He asked looking at the smaller guy compared to her. Seth would only think about his words for a moment, before speaking out the truth of the matter.

"Yes, I was rather desperate for a tutor. My parents are going through hard times, and my grades were on par to even stand out. Soccer is all I have, but I wanted to make my parents proud by making it to a good university with my skills. Of course, if I keep failing with my classes....they will suspend me from the team." He said almost defeated, looking away from the both of them as the principal knew about his struggles.

"So you decided to find the smartest girl, and she rejected to help you. Did you tell her this?" He asked wondering if she even knew about it.

"No....I didn't want her to take pity on me. I wanted to do this with my own power, seems like I am wrong as always." Seth would say even more depressed as he sighed at his progress.

The principal would shake his head, then turned towards her. "Miss Kendrick, he didn't mean it out of spite. I've recently gotten a call from your parents as well. You have been falling behind in your physical education, plus with this tutoring, it would look good on a resume for any university. So this is what I propose, you both work with each other on trying to better one another and I will not put these problems on your records?" He said thinking it was a great idea for the both of them.

Sympathy swelled in her chest, if only for a moment. Amelia can relate. Her parents expect the best of her, and she wants to make them proud. It is for this reason she studies as hard as she does, though, of course, that is not entirely the reason why. Eyes the color of caramel glanced over at the smaller boy, only to swing back forward as the principal spoke. Amelia tensed, her fingers gripping onto her skirt tightly now.

“Tutoring does not look good on a resume, sir,” Amelia found the words to say, after finding her voice in pieces upon the floor. “It is an extracurricular activity, and as beneficial as it may be, I do not feel comfortable with the idea of tutoring anyone, most of all him.”

If it were anyone else, maybe. At the very least, Amelia would take the idea into consideration. How can she handle his reckless behavior, though? How can she handle all that energy on a daily basis? No, she cannot. It will only drag her down further, for she will be exhausted by the end of each day. Amelia bit the corner of her lip, bowing her head to the point where the expression upon her face could not be seen. Bangs fell over her eyes.

What other choice does she have, though? Her grades in physical education are already suffering, as it is. Not only that, but if she refuses… this incident will be put down on her record. No university will take a second look, if she has a history of ‘disrupting lessons’.

All the fight bled from the girl. Amelia’s fingers went flat, a soft sigh leaving her lips. “Fine,” she spoke up after a minute of somewhat awkward silence passed. “I will tutor him. May I go now?”

Yes, she is agreeing. Under duress, but she has agreed to his tutor. Perhaps now, he shall leave her alone throughout the day. Amelia kept her gaze intent on the floor, not in the least bit interested in looking to her new protege, or to the principal. It is Seth’s fault she is in this predicament in the first place, and it was the principal’s idea to make the tutoring… beneficial not just to him, but to her as well. In her eyes, this is nothing, if not humiliating.

The both of them were a little tense at her reaction, she seemed to want to keep fighting. Leaving them wondering what she was doing this for? Maybe herself or just something else...but she would try her best to get it out of him. Then finally she would agree to the terms, as she was defeated for now.

It wouldn't take her long to get the okay from him. "Of course, but please make sure to pick a time for the both of you to meet up." He said making it clear that they at least need to do that. "I do have a room for the both of you to use after school near the track and field, it's an old equipment shed and very roomy now. Think of it as your own club house to study in." He said trying to hype it up for the both of them.

Seth was overjoyed, but tried his best to stay calm. Then rose up from his chair, extending his hand out to her. "Thank you, I will do my best to become the best student at this school!" He said smiling up at her, trying to do his best to calm her down. They were going to be partners for a while and hopefully friends.

Wonderful. Amelia did not even bother putting on a smile, not even for the sake of appearances. In the end, she lost this battle. No, not only did she lost the battle, she lost the war. Is there a reason why the principal is going out of his way to give them a room of their own? The library is sufficient enough, at least to teach him English.

“No, thank you,” Amelia replied at great length. “Sir, if you do not mind my saying so, please stop. Nothing is going to make me dread this any less than I already am.” Amelia went to rise from her seat, hands brushing out the skirt of her uniform, out of old habit, nothing more. Her eyes glanced over at the young man obviously ecstatic to have gotten his way, nothing disrupting the blank expression upon her face.

“After school, I expect you to be in the room.” Amelia did not bother to pretend that she is excited over this new development, or reach for his hand in turn. No, instead… she went to leave the principal’s office, leaving the two in a heavy silence. Amelia began to head back down the hall, her pace slow, her gaze steady and focusing straight ahead.

Seth just stared at the space where the strong girl once was as he blinked a few times. It was hard enough to get her to stay in this office and now she was free once more. It was a shame that she wouldn't accept him, as he just sighed to himself. Yet, that smile on his face never flattered as he was going to make her his friend no matter what. It was going to be one of those if you fail to try again sort of things as he would turn towards the principal or better known as his grandfather.

The principal would frown at her response and turn towards Seth. "You better not do anything to that girl. She is one of our best students and I do not want you to think that you can do whatever you want." He said giving him a stern look as Seth would look off to the side. He would then throw him the keys to the club room to give him a little push as he would watch him run out of his office.

He would run back to his class as he was a little more focused, he was a strange guy, after all, that loved to cause trouble and play soccer. Then he got an idea as he sent out a mass text as he put the words that he would be getting tutoring from the almighty Amazon Amelia in the school media that most of the school would check whenever possible for news and just to talk about themselves.
