The carriage ride had been relatively smooth most of the day, although as the sun disappeared behind the dense copse of trees that now surrounded them and darkness grew thicker, it was as if that very shift caused the journey to become bumpy and uncomfortable. Lady Ameline Lantress had been travelling for nearly three days now, accompanied by two guards and her driver. Even though she was supplied with luxuries during the trip that most commoners never saw in their lifetime, it was not enough to quell her boredom or sate her need for constant attention.
"Will you learn to control the horses!?" She yelled impatiently, after yet another bump in the road caused her to hit her head upon the carriage ceiling. Quickly she reached over to tap on the window which separated her from her help but before she could grab their attention, the carriage lurched again, but this time was different. The front right wheel cracked and splintered into a thousand pieces which nearly sent the entire cabin tumbling down a steep hill, fortunately, it managed to remain balanced enough to collapse on the road, but not before the horses broke free in a fright, quickly vanishing into the forest.
Lady Lantress had not ceased in her shrieking since the wheel exploded, even when the guards were hastily pulling her out of the intact cabin, her once perfectly braided hair had become a mess of tangles, and the beat red face of the normally pale complexion was staring daggers at them. "how DARE you allow this to happen. if you think ANY of you will retain your positions once we reach the estate of my future duke and husband, you are all sorely mistaken! Where are we!? Are we there?"
The driver exchanged nervous and disgruntled glances with the two guards before looking over to what seemed to be a manor, in the distance, just off the road, barely visible in the darkness. Strangely it seemed almost out of place, in a region such as this, yet the guards quickly guided the way, considering it a godsend
Despite her high pitched voice, laced with cruelty and a rather rancid personality, Lady Ameline Lantress was a beautiful young woman of twenty one years. Dressed in a luxurious silken dress of white, with blue lace bows and sleeves. Her hair, although mussed and tussled was a shimmering golden blonde. Long, untidy bangs framed her angular, pale face, her cheeks rosy from rage and embarrassment as she trekked anxiously through the brush and thick weeds toward the manor steps.
Once the group reached the heavy doors of the forest manor, Ameline motioned angrilly to one of her guards to knock on the door before yelling ungraciously "I am Lady Ameline Lantress, future wife of Duke Sardon, you are expected to grant us entry, supply us with food, and horses so I may finish my journey. Failure to comply will result in dire consequences."
The guards and the driver once again exchanged uncomfortable glances upon hearing the last bit. It was one thing for her to act like a spoiled brat in the safety of her own estate, but they were in the middle of no where, and save for a dim light spotted from one of the upper windows, they had no idea if anyone was even home.
