The heavy chains holding the prisoner's arms slipped from the guards' hands with a sudden tug. Her shoulder rammed into the gut of one of the soldiers. She held him while one of her legs kicked out at his partner. The key was tugged from the first guard's pocket, and with a satisfying clanking, the chains fell from her wrists. Flashes of red hair filled the air as her head shot from side to side, then streamed behind her as she charged for the stairs.
Three steps at a time, her large paw-like feet carried her up the stairs, and into the flat of the steel blade coming down at her head. Her heroic escape was ruined. She crumpled to the floor, her vision swimming for a moment before everything faded away into a blend of pain, dizziness, and anger.
The pain was the first thing there as she came to once more. Luckily, though, it was only a dull, throbbing sensation now, clustered in the front of her forehead. She could feel that her head was lighter than usual--of course, they had taken her hat, the lovely red and black with gold trim hat, with the white plume stuck into it.
At least the rest of her clothes were still there, she thought: the boots, the trousers, the shirt and vest. All of them were matching shades of red and black, and they both showed and covered a body with lush curves, a powerful set of muscles...and tawny fur. Her appearance was considerably feline, though she acted perfectly normal--or at least, within the bounds of how humans would act.
She sulked in the corner of her cell, staring at the patch of sunlight shining in from the barred window on the wall far above her, then up at the cell across from her, then back down, feeling her eyes starting to droop. It was hard to stay awake like this, where there was nothing to do. She felt as if she just wanted to sleep, and then everything would be better.
