Name: Aiko Yuki Kitsune
Age: 17
Race: Kitsunemimi
Class/Caste: Highborn
Short Background: Aiko is the daughter of an ambassador (her mother) and an important politician (her father). Both of her own parents come from an important lineage as well, her father being the son of a line of decorated officers from The Great Emancipation (first war between the Humans and Anthros) and The Battle of the Races (second war between the various Anthro races), and before the wars, arena fighters. Her mother came from a line of ambassadors and before The Great Emancipation, a line of Geishas.

Aiko Yuki Kitsune, now having turned 17, was in need of a replacement for her Nanny. She was too old for one now and her parents wanted to find her a suitable servant that would be by her side well into her late years. Since she came from an established and important family, they demanded she has a servant that could also protect her. Her parents took a lot of pride in their social status and liked to be seen as only having the best that their status could provide, so they insisted on only having Human help around the house. It was rare now to find educated Humans, since their race had thinned out tremendously after the first war, so many of their help had been in the family for a long time. However, there was no one to spare for Aiko to have as a full-time servant. Her parents had been looking for someone since Aiko turned 15, and now they found someone who could fill that role.

Aiko started out the window and watched the rain fall outside her West facing window, admiring the way the drops collected on the glass and seemed to glow as the sunset behind her. Absentmindedly she drew a heart in the fog that had been on the glass as she waited and wondered what her parents had called her back from holiday for. She had been enjoying some time on one of the family's islands, enjoying the warm sunshine and blue skies, whereas back at home in Veskad proper where it was winter and rainy. All they said was that it was "urgent that she return home with the Nanny". The large house stood atop a hill in the center of the city, her father was the Governor of Vesked and as such he could live in the governor's mansion. The house was huge, a three-wing, twenty bedroom house with countless other rooms.

A hologram popped up in front of Aiko's face on the glass, and she sighed when she saw her Nanny's face on the screen. "Miss Aiko, your parents would like you to come down to the main foyer. Please come down as soon as you can." Aiko sighed and nodded "Alright, thank you Yvonne. I'll make my way down now." Aiko replied and waved her hand across the image and it disappeared. She straightened out her outfit before making her way toward the door. After taking a right outside her door, walking down the hall for a couple hundred yards to a grand white marble staircase, and made her way to the bottom. The main door was only 500 feet from the bottom of the stairs, but Aiko decided to wait by Yvonne at the bottom of the stairs. "Do you know what this is about Yvonne?" She asked her nanny, who shushed Aiko and shook her head in response. "Thanks for the help." Aiko huffed under her breath and folded her arms in exasperation.

Rowan cursed his ill luck. Not because of the rain as he sat in the back seat of the impressively expensive towncar. In fact the soft pattering of the rain upon the metal roof was the most comforting part of this entire situation. He had no surname, tradition dictating that he would have taken his father's, had he known who the bastard was. Or what was given to him by his owners had he been younger. But no, unless this family decided to give him one now, Rowan was all that he had to go by. Looking up at the massive mansion in the center of the city, he wondered who could have possibly loved there. It was too large, too much space taken up in his opinion. The caves of the mines seemed more comfortable at this moment. More familiar.

Even his clothes were strange. His well toned physique did not take kindly to the fitted servant's suit. Appearance wise it did, the dark colour of the fabric and red tie matching with the similar shade of black that was his hair and stubble that garnished his chin. But the way that it tightened against his throat was like a noose. In a sense something of his had died once he was chosen for being able to read and write, having been noticed trying to teach a few other human children to better themselves. There was a call, the driver answering in a hushed voice, so low that his human ears could not catch what was said. "They are ready for you, go on. Don't keep the girl waiting." He was instructed.

Taking a small umbrella from the door he moved through the rain quickly, up to the towering front doors and slipped inside. The entry hall was more massive than he imagined. A dozen homes of his kind could have fit in there alone, and seeing the pair by the stairs he figured that was who he was going to be serving. That thought felt like someone was running a cheese grater against his brain. He would have much preferred to stay in the mines than wait hand and foot upon this child. For that is how he saw her. Whatever race she ended up being, Rowan no longer assumed after once having his nose broken for getting one confused for another, she was smaller than him, and younger. Well. No matter, not like he had a choice at all anymore. Maybe she would get tired of him and they would send him away. That was the best the man could hope for.

As he approached he knelt so that his face was level with hers, trying to take on a kindly voice, one filled with a layer of mockery as he treated her like she was younger than he knew she was. "I'm here to replace Yvonne, my name is Rowan. You are getting to be too old for a nanny now aren't you? Big day is it not? Finally old enough to boss someone around it seems."  He did not really know what he was supposed to do, besides do what her father orderes. As a blanket command he needed to keep her safe and out of trouble first and foremost, while trying to heed what she wanted. Other than that? It's not like he was raised for this.

Aiko began to tap her foot as the seconds went by. She could be impatient at times as she rarely ever had to wait for much. "Yvonne, seriously. Why are we waiting at the door, and where are my parents if this is so important?" Aiko asked, sounding annoyed by her nanny's lack of an answer. Yvonne eyed down Aiko and gave her a glare as if to tell her to behave or else. "Miss Aiko, you may be 17, but sometimes you still act like a toddler. Be patient, he should be here any moment." The older woman assured, turning her attention back to the doors. "He? Who is..." but Aiko's question was interrupted by the opening of the door. First, her snowy white ears turned, followed by the rest of her head. Aiko's tail, which had been swaying behind her lazily, the tip brushing against the hardwood floors, was now upright and the fur was standing on end.

She watched with caution as he approached and introduced himself. Her parents had not told her about getting rid of Yvonne, knowing that Aiko would protest until she was as blue in the face as her bright eyes. Aiko's ears flattened as she sensed Rowan's tone and words to be mocking her, Aiko's expression turning from shocked and cautious to cross and annoyed. Aiko raised her hand to smack the human before her in the face, her hand nearly making contact with his cheek, her fingers only a hairs width away, when Yvonne grabbed Aiko's wrist and shot another cautionary glance, then turned to the young man before her, addressing him with a smile. "Good evening Mr. Rowan. This is Miss Aiko Yuki Kitsune." The older woman replied. Yvonne then turned back to Aiko and leaned down to whisper in her ear harshly, loud enough that Rowan could hear. "Miss Aiko, please refrain from hitting your new steward. You may not be in my charge anymore, but that is still unacceptable behavior." Then Yvonne dropped Aiko's wrist and elbowed her.

Aiko sighed and rolled her eyes at her nanny before turning back to Rowan. She could tell from Yvonne's tone and glare that this was non-negotiable and had to accept this new servant, for now. "Good evening Rowan, it is a pleasure to meet you." Aiko says sarcastically as she holds out her hand for him. "I guess you are to be attending me now....." Aiko's eyes took a moment to look Rowan up and down. The suit fit him well, accentuating his strong build from working in the mines, but he was still rugged looking, even in the more formal attire. She could tell he had worked in manual labor from the way he held himself and his mannerisms toward her. "You may address me as Miss Aiko for now." Aiko's voice was flat as she took her hand back from him, but her cheeks now a soft shade of pink, slightly embarrassed by how Yvonne handled her outburst.

Aiko didn't want a new attendant, she had grown to love Yvonne, the woman who essentially raised her while her parents were off running the city, attending important policial events, or working on the diplomatic relationships with other high ranking families. Aiko had always been left behind since her parents felt she was not ready to court for a husband yet, seeing as she did not always conceal her feelings and would act upon them without much thought. She was still young in age, but she was much more intelligent than others, so she had finished her secondary schooling just a year prior and would start some postsecondary courses within the next few days, all from home of course. Aiko didn't try to hide her feelings of disappointment from her expression but chose to bite her tongue and not say anything until after Yvonne had left the two alone.

Yvonne smiled at her charge and took a step toward Rowan. "Well Mr. Rowan, if you would like, I can show you to your quarters. Alternatively, you may spend some time with Miss. Aiko and get to know her a little better." Yvonne's expression was a mix of happiness and sadness, she loved her charge but also knew that it was time to let her grow up.

Rowan braced himself for what he was doing, intentionally trying to set off the young woman who was now the object of his annoyance. Not with her specifically, but of their situation. Upon seeing her face change to something more annoyed and watching her ears flatten he knew he was almost there, and it was as she rise her hand to strike at the groomed stubble upon his chin that he had accomplished his small goal. But rather than a brief flash of pain like he was expecting, he felt nothing, looking down into her bright blue eyes with his hazel ones. A small moment of surprise widened his eyes as he looked at the nanny. The name she had spoken and her own actions were special in that she was able to get away with it. And as he rose so as to stand strait he shook his head. "You should have let her hit me Miss Yvonne. The princess should get used to battering her subjects like the rest of her kind."

Rowan had not known that he would be serving the mayor's own daughter. In fact he had no idea exactly what family it was up until now. He had been picked up and quickly forced into a form of reconditioning. Which failed if his attitude was still as it was. Weeks of training on manners and how he was expected to heed every command had been knocked against his skull, each time failing spectacularly as he held onto his pride where many others would have jumped at the chance. The only real consolidation here was that he would no longer have to worry about his next meal, or if there would be a cave in or explosion. But all those things paled to the subservient nature of the job in his opinion.

His clever smirk fell away as she gave her own name and held out her hand. While the new steward was not impressed with her tone, a notice of her pink cheeks showed that at least she seemed embarrased enough. He took her hand in his fingers, a stiff curving of his shoulders as he gave a small bow. "Likewise then Miss Aiko." He thought she looked cute at least, and decided to try and reign in his negativity just a bit. It was not her own fault that he was here, and he decided to give her the benefit of the doubt for now. Calling her Miss though, that left a sour taste upon his tongue. Whatever this was it was going to be a big change. From the older female guardian that Yvonne was, to someone like him.

"If you can just tell me where I will take care of it myself Miss Yvonne." Rowan spoke to the nanny with more respect than he had given his new owner. A guarantee of age. "I wish to get to know her a bit better, privately. I fear that she may act differently when you are around." He spoke softly, the large open spaces daunting to him. He gave the building the same respect one would a place of worship, and despite his words and tones, they were always hushed. "Miss Aiko. Could you show me your favorite place in the manor? It would be greatly appreciated." His voice was kinder, taking advantage that the nanny was still there to get what he wanted.

Aiko's eyes narrowed and she let out a low growl as Rowan called her a princess. "Fuck you." She muttered under her breath, clenching her fists. Her knuckles turned white and her nails dug into her palm, leaving a mark. Yvonne tried but failed at holding back a chuckle at Rowan's words and Aiko's response that followed. "Language."She managed to choke out through the chuckle and elbowed her charge again, before turning back to address Rowan. "The Kitsune family does not approve of treating others in that way, no matter their race. They are trying to set an example of kindness to the rest of the world, and frown upon the abuse of any kind." Yvonne stated with a smile and straightened her skirts. "But try not to tease Miss Aiko too much, she has always been..." Yvonne paused, trying to think of kinder words to describe her young charge while stroking her chin. "...a passionate and spirited young woman. Sometimes it can get the better of her senses."

Aiko gave his fingers a firm squeeze as he took her hand. His hands were larger than hers, rough and strong from the hard labor performed all his life, which was a stark contrast to Yvonne's soft and smooth (yet still strong) hands that had cared for Aiko up until this point. Aiko bent her head in response to his bow, she would play the lady until her nanny was gone, not wanting to be chastised in front of Rowan anymore. She had been embarrassed in front of him enough for one day and wanted him to see her as an adult, not the child that he assumed she was at the moment, which was clear in his tone and lack of respect toward her.

Yvonne nodded and stepped back. "Then I'll let Miss Aiko show you since it's just across the hall from her own room. It will give you both more time alone together." She smiled at his comment, it was true that Aiko was more well behaved in front of her, but only because Yvonne was a stern woman and held high expectations for her charge.

Aiko's flat expression turned to smile as Rowan asked to be taken to her favorite place, his tone had changed. "Then, it's off the library first Rowan." Her voice now cheery, glad not to have to give him a tour of the whole manor, which would take a while. His name fell out of her mouth effortlessly. It was then she noticed how uncomfortable Rowan seemed in the large entryway, and how softly he spoke compared to the booming and confident voice of Yvonne's. It made Aiko wonder if he was unsure about the whole arrangement, or if it was the massiveness of the house that made him uneasy. Aiko didn't really enjoy the bigness of the manor either, she preferred small spaces, sitting in cozy and softly lit corners like her special spot in the library. Though the library was large, it felt much smaller with all the books on the ceiling high shelves along almost every wall, and that was one reason why it was her favorite place.

She gave a small curtsy and turned to Aiko, planting a kiss on top of the young woman's head. "If you'll excuse me, I'll need to go pack my things and clear out of your room Mr. Rowan. I'll leave you and Miss Aiko to yourselves." Yvonne leaned down once more to Aiko's ear and whispered one word, "Behave" into the girl's ear before ascending up the staircase and turning left at the top of the stairs, disappearing down the hall and leaving the anthro girl and her new male servant by themselves in the entry hall.

As soon as Yvonne was out of view Aiko stepped closer to Rowan and took his hand. She squeezed it harder this time and shot him a look of warning, her sapphire eyes staring deep into his deep hazel ones as she spoke in a hushed tone, not wanting Yvonne to overhear. "If you want me to show you respect, I expect you to show it to me. I am not a child and don't wish to be treated like one." Aiko's ears twitched and her tail swayed behind her, the tip brushing the floor and whipping back up into the air to accentuate her words. Then Aiko turned away from him, still holding his hand, and began to drag him up the stairs. "My room and yours are on the way to the library, I will point them out to you as we walk." Though Aiko's legs were shorter than his, her stride was quick as they made their way up the stairs, taking two at a time, and pulling Rowan along behind her. Her heels clicked on the cold white marble as they ascended.

After reaching the top of the stairs, she turned left. The floor in the hallway was made of Brazillian cherry wood, the deep brownish red contrasted against the icy-blue flocking and gold foil brocade patterned wallpaper on the walls. After walking 200 yards from the stairs, she stopped between a black door with an ornate silver handle and her initials etched in silver on the left, and a blank black door on her right with a matching handle. "My room is on the left, yours on the right. Its a mirror image of my room, except only half as big. You'll have your own bed, full bathroom, and the walk-in closet that will hold all of your uniforms and any other items you may have or accumulate during your stay here. All the glass on the windows and mirror are smart glass and function like any tablet would. You can use it to video chat, make voice calls, search the web, or keep tabs on the security system of the house. Yvonne will get you acquainted with them later." Aiko spoke quickly and barely stopped to breath during her speech, let alone look at Rowan. Her tone was flat and sounded bored.

Once she finished, she continued to walk him to the end of the hall, her pace a little faster than it was on the stairs, until they reached two large doors, a cherry tree motif with birds carved into the deep reddish-brown wood. The handles of the door were large and intricate as well and inlaid with rose gold. Though the doors looked heavy, Aiko reached for the handle, pushed it down, and pushed the door open with ease. They glided open and the first thing that came into view was a large, floor to ceiling window, that looked out into the treed garden behind the house. In the middle of the large room was an equally impressive table with chairs around it. The walls were covered with shelves and books were packed tightly into every space. Aiko pulled him inside and up the spiraling staircase in the back of the room on the right of the window. They walked past 5 more shelves and then there was a door sized gap between the last of the 5 shelves and the next one. She pulled him through the doorway into a small nook, with its own window and a comfy window seat which looked more like a makeshift bed with all the pillows and blankets piled on the mattress. It was just big enough for one person to lay comfortably, or two sitting very close to one another. Along one wall beside the window seat was a shelf filled with more books, the other wall had a tablet, glowing softly with an image of a silhouetted tree in front of a sunset of pinks, oranges, and reds. There were speakers in the ceiling above the nook, which was also decorated with tiny lights that made the dark corner glow a soft yellow-ish orange. "This is my favorite spot, my only escape in this massive place my parents call home." She made her statment, pride in her voice, as if she had worked hard to make this small space her own, which she had.

Rowan smirked at the young lady's foul mouth, it left his pride with a static like feeling, jubilant that he could easily get under her skin. And to watch get softly scolded left the grown man with the thought that he had just ratred out the playground bully. However this was a  hollow victory, lessened both by their age difference and the quick explination given by Yvonne afterwards. "Don't worry. I caused it, but I will keep the teasing to a minimum until she lets me. Being passionate is not something to be trodden upon, especially if she really is taught as you say." There was no way to hide the skepticism in his voice, though it was not directed at either one of them.

He gave his approval with a nod as he let go of the young woman's soft hands, Rowan felt like his hands had been akin to sandpaper in comparison, and not in a way to be proud of. It told of their astonishingly different lives so far, just another clue as to what he was getting into. "A library? Why would we have to leave just too." Rowan stopped talking as soon as he realized what a fool he was making of himself. These were the most influential people to live in this city, of course they could afford a library of their own. The thought alone of that, when even just the ability to read amongst his own kind was limited to less than five percent sent shivers down his spine.

"She will." Rowan smiled with a look, he knew his job was not to keep the girl in line, but he also doubted she would try anything right now. Unless of course he tried something impish himself. He bowed lower tp Yvonne, "Just make sure to find us before you leave. I doubt this will be farewell already." Of course the human did not know that, but someone so influential within Miss Aiko's life probably would not vanish without something more proper. And then the nanny was gone, out beyond his sight fairly quickly. He wondered if he would ever get to be as confident in himself to move about this life without feeling out of place. Rubbing his chin with the soft scratching of nails against stubble he doubted it.

His hand was grasped tightly, though even if the young anthro squeezed as hard as she could Rowan would not have flinched. "You are not? Well I'm sorry princess. I'll do my best to treat you like an adult." The man's smile was wide as he already went against what he had said and was teasing her. At least he hoped his expression showed that he meant nothing by the little jest as he was dragged along down the hallways. His own polished shoes made no sound as they stepped along the floors, used to stepping light and quickly, having to dance around other men and machines while mining to avoid injury. His own stride was more comfortable, having to put less effort to keep with her pace. Had he not been pulled along, Rowan would have stopped multiple times, as he ran his hand along the gold brocade for a few yards. How strange that they could display such wealth with ease, knowing that only a few people would ever set eyes upon it.

"And here I thought I would be sleeping in a shed. This is more than I'm used too." Rowan would have thought the shed was more familiar, his last residence having been a breezy leaky shack shared with a couple of his younger cousins who also worked around the mines. It had not been mandatory to live with family, but it was something expected of them. To keep everyone bunched together and as well as to save what little money they were given. "I don't even know how to turn on a tablet, but I think I can manage." The thing that seemed interesting was the security monitors, the rest he doubted he would enjoy. Maybe if he could learn how to turn the radio on with that. Rowan was technologically incompetent, not incapable just unpracticed. Still they were moving on again and this time to a far more ornate set of doors. They almost seemed like gates to a treasury, and as he saw inside it most certainly was. A wealth of books, of knowledge. He thought of all the things he could learn, and then subsequently teach to young children. Maybe they would even be able toMake something of themselves. No wonder Miss Aiko chose this place. But there was a secret that was beyond that hidden within the bound covers. A small nook, and in his mind the most comfortable looking place he had seen. Rowan saw the speaker and the tablet, wondering what music she would play as the young woman hid away here.

A large hand gently pulled at a book on the nearest shelves, to see if he could judge what she liked most. "All this, and the most I could ever find were fairy tales and fables. My favorite, rather than stuffy texts about politicians or boring stories without something fantastic to pay attention too." He mumbled as he looked back down at his owner. There was something incredibly off about her words, something that the sharp witted man vould not let sit without being mentioned. "And where do you call home if not the house with your parents Miss Aiko?" Rowan kept his thoughts to himself, but to him he could figure that the relationship between the two generations was strenuous at best.

Aiko noted that her foul words seemed not to shock, but amuse Rowan. 'At least I won't have to put on a filter when speaking to him.' She thought to herself, glad at the prospect that he may not be as strict as Yvonne. His words and skeptical tone make Aiko roll her eyes again and sigh with annoyance. She was not looking forward to more teasing from him, but other than teasing back, there was little that Aiko could do without getting into trouble.

Aiko couldn't help but let out a small laugh, almost a giggle, as Rowan asked why they would have to leave. He would have much to learn coming from working in the mines, undoubtedly this was the first mansion, maybe even house, he had ever been in. Though she didn't know much of the plight the humans in hard labor faced, she knew that they were not accustomed to such grandeur as Aiko had been provided her whole life. She thought it would be interesting to observe his acclimation and was looking forward to learning more about Rowan and where he came from, if only out of morbid curiosity.

As Rowan assured Yvonne that Aiko would behave, Aiko shot him a warning glance, her eyes flashing with annoyance. It was not his job to make sure she acted appropriately and she was sure that he knew that.

Yvonne nodded at Rowan's request. "Oh, of course not. There are still a few things I will need to show you, but, we have time for that later." She had a large smile and curtsied to both Rowan and Aiko before she flew up the stairs.

Aiko was not amused when Rowan called her princess, and it was clear in her expression. Her ears twitched again in annoyance and she bit her lip to keep from letting out a growl of disapproval. "Miss Aiko will suffice." She said flatly before turning away from him and dragging Rowan up the stairs.

Every so often, as they walked, Aiko would glance back at Rowan and admire the wonder on his face. He really hadn't been in a place like this before, the resplendence of such a place seemed to capture his attention, much like a magpie might act if it flew into a jewelry store. It made expression soften into a smile, but a small one for herself. She said nothing as his rough fingers explored the extravagant wallpaper, just as she had when first been brought to the house as well. Her first visit to this manor had been when she had turned six, but she had begun living here part-time when she turned twelve. Aiko had spent most of her time on the private island, in a significantly smaller and cozier dwelling. Her parents and Yvonne feared that the main house would be too big for a young anthro to grow up in, so they had acquired the island soon after Aiko's mother had learned she was pregnant. Even still, Aiko preferred to stay on the island and rarely came back to the manor, unless her parents insisted. It was quieter, private, and felt like a real home, unlike this place which felt more like a museum or castle to her.

Aiko shook her head and another small laugh escaped her lips before she responded. "You cannot be expected to keep watch over me or attended to my needs if you are out in the gardens in a shed." The thought seemed ridiculous to her, of course, he would have to sleep close by. "But if it is not to your liking, I'm sure that we can have the maintenance staff make any changes you want." She shrugged off his comment about the tablet and decided not to respond. Yvonne would cover all of that later, and she was eager to get to her special spot.

"Those books are some of my favorites, mostly fantasy novels and fiction. I enjoy escaping to other places when I read." Aiko said as she observed Rowan pull a book from the shelf. Aiko slipped off her shoes and sat herself down on the bench, curling her legs under her skirt and nestling into a pile of pillows and blankets. "Ah, so you did have access to some literature where you were before," Aiko said thoughtfully and brushed some hair behind her ear. "While you are in my employ, you can take full advantage of the library. We have an extensive collection of fairy tales and fables, along with books on almost any subject you may want to learn about." Her expression was now soft and friendly, now knowing that they had at least one thing in common, a love of reading and learning.

Aiko looked up at Rowan and raised an eyebrow at his question, she wasn't expecting him to pick up of the fact that she didn't like to call this place home, let alone show genuine interest in learning more about her. She patted the empty space next to her, signaling him to sit before she answered. "My parents have a small private island not far from here, its called Golden Isle, I spent most of my childhood there, and was there before I was summoned here to meet you." She let out a sigh and closed her eyes, picturing the small house that she had spent much of her time. "It's a very sunny and warm place with a beach and some wonderful foliage as well. There is a small house, almost a cottage really. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a simple kitchen, a small room for my studies, and a living room as well." As Aiko spoke, her smile grew and her body relaxed. The tone of her voice was soft, almost a whisper as she reminisced upon her home with fondness and warmth. She took in a deep breath and opened her eyes, looking toward Rowan, the smile still on her lips. "Once things are settled here, I plan on going back. Of course, you will be coming with me." She watched his expression carefully, wondering if this idea appealed to him or not. It was true that the relationship between Aiko and her parents was strained. They did not make time for their only child and liked to be immersed in their work, socializing with other high ranking nobles and rubbing elbows with the elite. The only time they did spend with their daughter was at events where she would be paraded around and put on a pedestal for her patents to gloat about. Aiko hated those parties, they were loud and had too many people for her liking. Her only friend and company had been Yvonne for all those years and now that Yvonne was being assigned to another job, Rowan would have to fill that role.

Rowan was trying really hard to not look like a fool. What the young lady had said about being nearby made too much sense that he had wished it had crossed his mind. "No whatever they have I will make do with." He said sternly trying to save face. Even if his primary impression with her had no doubt been poor, he already regretted his thoughts on getting kicked out. No, they seemed like honest folk for now, and he probably could just escape if something happened to put a wedge between them.

As she explained her choice of reading, Rowan smiled, a small turning upwards of the edges of his mouth. "And where is your favorite place to escape too?" He asked as the man stood straiter, even as Aiko relaxed. The change in her face, from the serious and annoyed to the softness it had become mirrored in his own. His dark eyes shinning, surprised at his own interest in the matter, but not uncomfortable because of it. "We had some, maybe two hundred books between the five thousand of my town. Most are manuals for the machines, the fiction we have can fit on a measly two shelves." The idea of having something new to read was an astounding one, and it nearly left the man speechless. "I thank you for that, it will be nice if you could recommend something for me. Though I have to admit that my vocabulary is lacking so anything difficult might take some time." Rowan humored the idea of asking his owner for help. The very thought of the young woman, even as attractive as she looked sitting there amidst the mass of cushions and covers was hilarious to him. Hilarious and not likely to come to be.

He was motioned to sit, and did so, noting how close they had to be even with him on the edge of the makeshift bed of cushions. Rowan forced himself to relax. To let loose a deep breath that calmed his tense muscles and had him leaning with an elbow upon his knee as he listened to her regail him with the splendid image of an island away from everything. "It sounds like a wonferful place. Quiet, and away from all worries." He admitted. The thought intrigued him to be going along, and yet there was hesitation before he nodded. "How long until you wish to return do you think? And who else will be going Miss Aiko." Even if he was a steward and servant of them, did they really think it wise to pair him alone with their next of kin? Maybe his impression upon her parents was off. He had thought they would be prideful and place their only daughter on a pedestal. Yet the more he thought, the more that he started to reaize, possibly incorrectly, that they did not even care for their silver haired princess.

"Forgive me if I am overstepping." Rowan spoke out. "But do you not have any reason to stay off the island? Certainly you have a friend or two that you might wish to remain within travel distance of? Or a young man you like." He did not know why these words came out, he had quite literally just met with her. But something about the way she bathed in the desire to get away drew pity from the older male. He wouldn't try and take the place of a caretaker, but he was also to new to this wholr situation to mind his tongue.

Aiko took note of his stern words but didn't say anything, recognizing that he was just trying to regain his composure after she had teased him. 'Serves him right though, for assuming I am a child and teasing me.' She thought to herself.

Aiko thought for a moment on Rowan's question, chewing lightly on the nail of her right pointer finger. "Hmm, favorite place. I'm not sure if I could name one favorite." She shrugged and then pointed to the shelf in the nook. "Some of them take place in the past, some in the present, some in the far future, and some in an alternate universe entirely. I guess it depends on what kind of mood I am in." As Rowan talked, she laid back into the pillows and blankets behind her, making herself comfortable as he spoke, but nodding to show she was still listening. "Well, we have far more books than that, not all in English either. I know this library like the back of my hand, so if you are looking for anything in particular, I'm the one to ask." Aiko said, the last part of her statement filled with pride. She shrugged as he asked for suggestions. "Most of the books I read for enjoyment are probably fine, you can pull anything from my shelf as long as you return it. There are also dictionaries scattered around all over the place. The tablets around the manor..." She pointed to tablet on his side of the wall. "Can provide definitions, just state: "define" and spell or say the word. Eventually, you will also get a mobile device, which has all the features of the tablets, but more portable." Aiko had assumed upon meeting Rowan that she would quickly grow tired of explaining things to him, but was finding it not to be so bad. She couldn't fault him for being unused to all the technology she had grown up around, the lower classes, especially the humans who worked in the fields or mines, did now have such luxuries.

Aiko's smile only grew when Rowan sat beside her, took a deep breath, and leaned on his knees with his elbows. She nodded. "It is," Aiko replied, sighing once more before thinking about his question for a long moment before giving an answer. "Ideally, in a few days. But it partly depends on you and how you feel. As for who would go, it was always just Yvonne and I. So I guess it would just be you and I. Unless that is a problem?" Aiko tilted her head to the side and cocked her fox ears a bit as she asked her question, not really understanding why he asked, or why it was something he worried about. It had never crossed her mind that it could or would be improper since his species and her own did not have anything other than working relationships as fas as she knew. They may have cared for their only daughter, but it certainly did not show considering how much time they spent away from her. It was something that Aiko had learned to cope with over the years, Yvonne had enough affection to give to the anthro girl growing up that Aiko never wanted for love or attention.

Aiko shook her head and shrugged at Rowan's more intimate question. Her cheeks flushed slightly as he asked about any young man. "N-no, n-no one." She began, stuttering a bit and looking down into her lap. After a moment of silence, she looked back up, the flush was gone, but a sad look behind her eyes as she explained. "Growing up mostly on the island meant that my only company was Yvonne. Also, none of Mother and Father's friends have children my age, all either much much older, or they have none to speak of." Aiko twiddled her fingers in her lap before answering the last of his questions. "I haven't had any suitors yet and am not looking for any. I'd much rather finish my studies than attend the stuffy events where I would be paraded around to men twice my age." It was true though, she had no interest in being put on display like an auction item, judged based solely on her bloodline and looks, only to be sold to the highest bidder."The island is where I feel at home, I can study from there and am still connected to the outside world, but everything happens on my terms there." There was no reason that Aiko couldn't just live out the rest of her life there, it had all the necessities and received shipments of any goods she might need whenever she requested. Rowan would discover all of this when talking with Yvonne later if Aiko didn't explain it to him first.
