Jessica nodded and followed Lance inside, closing the door behind her. “Thank you.” She replied with a sweet smile as he got her a chair, she sat close to the edge and crossed her ankles, trying to sit as much like a proper lady as possible. Jessica wanted to impress him as much as possible, she really wanted this position. By now her breathing had returned to normal, and as she sat before him, she tried her hardest to give Lance eye contact, but he was an attractive man and part of her wanted to drink him in.
As Lance spoke, her eyes focused on his face, switching between looking into his rather fetching blue eyes and watching his soft lips move to form the words. “An NDA basically, correct?” She asked, wanting him to clarify the document that he wanted her to sign. She also wanted him to know that she knew some of the terminologies in this field, so he would see that she may be the best candidate in the stack.
As he went on about the compensation, Jessica’s eyes widened. That money would be really nice, it could help her to more quickly pay off her student loans, something that she feared she would have to deal with until she died being that she had to borrow so much, and it would allow her to build a nest-egg so she could finally start living on her own, not with roommates. Her gut, however, was telling her it was too good to be true, that there was something that Lance was not telling her about. How could you get paid like that without having to do so much more work? It was suspicious but Jessica pushed the thought aside. This was a reputable firm, Lance seemed to be every bit of a gentleman, and she really could use the money, not to mention the internship.
There was only a small moment of silence before Jessica gave her answer. She smiled and held out her hand to him, offering it for a shake. “I’d like to accept your offer, Mr….” She paused and bit her lip, thinking hard. “I’m sorry, I don’t believe I caught your name."
