Bull looked out across the the vast city that laid before him. He had his companion had just arrived at the hill overlooking Reyvar, a sprawling city of trade. Countless people lived there, with more coming and leaving every day. It was a great place to come and making a living it whatever trade you may desire. Or in the case of the two siblings, it was a place to hide.

All beings had two components that determined their worth to the eyes of those in charge: power and soul. Power was someone's capacity for magic. More power meant they could use more powerful spells and could cast more of them. Soul had little effect on the person with it, but was a key factor in the power of one's children. As such, even peasants with high soul could find themselves being married into the powerful mage families.

Bull had been born to one such family. His power was shockingly low, on the level of a peasant. But his Soul, it was something else. Describing it as high would be like calling the ocean wet or an inferno as warm. While they were technically true, they failed to grasp the true magnitude of the object being discussed. Any child he had would be among the most powerful mages ever born. His family, deciding it would be best to use him as a breeding slave, having him mate with family members to produce a legion of powerful children, securing total power for the family. Bull was kept locked away for years as a dark secret, never even given a proper name, as they waited for his Soul to mature.

It had been his sister, Ava, who saved him. She had always been his only friend, the only one who cared more about the person than the soul. So when his soul had finally matured and she learned of what they planned, she made a daring escape. Together, the two ran. It had been weeks of evading guards and sticking to side roads. But now they were there, ready to hide until they had another move.

While he may have been named for his breeding potential, he did resemble a wild animal. He was tall and naturally big, combined with the muscle he had gained from all the forced training his family made him do to keep him healthy. His hair was long and wild, due to rarely getting a proper haircut. He looked like a wild man more than a noble. But here he was, ready to finally do what he had never been allowed to do before: live.

Ava loved her brother.

There had been a time she hadn't even know he existed, when she was young and did what she was told and didn't ask questions. When her parents had high hopes for their youngest daughter. Eventually as a young child Ava got curious, bored with her studies and assigned playmates. She started to wander and inquire and snoop. That was how she had met her brother, how everything had changed.

Despite never meeting him she liked to think they had a connection the moment they did. Maybe she just liked stories to much, to prove this point she left their first meeting thinking she had met her 'true-love'. It was only later she learned the truth about him, about her family. That when she started to slowly become a disappointment, not longer holding the passion to show dedication to her work she remained only average, just like the level of her soul, and for the family that meant dismal.

The years passed and soon the quiet days of stealing away time with her brother, though it was hard to picture him as such, had to feel about him as such went away and curious Ava learned more than she wanted to know. What they planned to do to him.

So she left, and she too her brother with her.

Ava had never been happier.
Standing here looking over Reyvar she was quiet, yet her insides buzzed, they would start a new life here. A proper one. Looking up at Bull she smiled brightly. He had grown so large over the years and she had stayed rather small, delicate. Dressed in a simple brown frock, unassuming. Was it surprising she had a time thinking of them as siblings.

“Are you excited?” She chirped. “What sort of people do you think we'll meet? Where will we live? Do you think I could get work in a hat shop, I always thought working in on might be fun?”
