To give you all an idea as to what is going on:
Present-day Japan. Argueably the best place in the world for state-of-the-art education and technology. World-renowned high schools occur in this country, and many people attempt to attend these wonderful schools every year.
Selena (18), a rather poor American girl who is one of the top students at her high-profile private high school (tuition paid by her aunt), is offered a full-ride scholarship to study at an exquisite Japanese high school named Kosho Academy (She has taken 4+ years of Japanese language classes). Selena accepts the scholarship and lives with the Aihara family in an apartment while in Japan.
The morning of Selena's first day of school at Kosho Academy is a beautiful one. Despite her small room, the window catches the morning sunlight, reflecting the light onto the ground in an irregular prism shape. The golden rays warm and lighten the room, causing Selena to rub her eyes. She hadn't slept much last night; nervousness and butterflies had filled her stomach at the thought of attending a new school...thousands of miles away from home! She stretched her arms, yawning while doing so. Blinking a few times, she sat up, thinking about what today would be like. New folks, new curriculum..new everything!
At that moment, Mrs. Aihara called for her to get ready for school. Selena looked over at the clock. 7:30. It was much later in the morning for her than when she had attended school back in the states, but she didn't mind the extra hour or so of sleep. Selena got up out of bed, took a shower, washed up and then put on her school uniform that she had laid out the night before. Uncertain about Japanese hairstyles, She brushed her hair, pinning it halfway back into one of the simple styles she used to use when she was in the states. She was too tired to put on makeup, so she went without this morning. She picked up her bag, filled with new Japanese school books, slinging it over her shoulder as she left the room.
On her way out of the Aihara's apartment, Selena gave the family a respectful bow, telling them good bye. They wished her luck on her first day of school, and Selena walked out of the apartment complex, strolling down to her school which was only a few blocks away.
Her gray eyes looked around as Selena walked into her school. The school was..very exquisite and expensive-looking. All of her classmates were Japanese! She was going to stick out like a sore thumb, having light brown hair and grey eyes and such... Selena gave a slight sigh, walking into her first class: Advanced Biology. Biology was her favorite subjects, and she was somewhat happy to start her school day off with this class. Taking a seat near the back of the class, Selena kept rather quiet, only replying with a soft yet friendly "Kanichiwa" and a smile if anyone told her hello. Pulling out her book for the appropriate class, she sat there was waited for the class to begin and the teacher to appear.
