Music had always been an important part of the Walker Family. It all started with Mason Walker and his Mary. They formed a traveling band, made up of family members. The family never sought out fame. They just loved playing music and performing on stage. Like a band of gypsies, they traveled around the country performing on any stage they could find. Mason & Mary were blessed with three children during their time together. Doug (25), was their first child. Faith (23) came seconds and April (21), was the youngest. The Walker kids grew up surrounded by music of all types. They traveled with their parents and even joined them on stage when they were old enough. Each of the kids were very talented. They could all play several instruments and sing. As the years rolled by. Mason and his family continued touring. Only returning home to Los Angeles for a few weeks out of the year. These were good times for the family. However, things turned bad when Mary fell ill during a tour. The family returned home, hoping they would hit the road once their mother was feeling better. Sadly, that didn't happen. It was found, Mary suffered from cancer of the brain. She passed away a few months after returning home. Mason retired from music and from traveling.
Faith & April still had the music bug. They wanted to continue traveling around the country and playing songs. The two daughters tried to talk their father into joining them. He wasn't interested anymore. Mason did give his girls his blessing to keep doing what they wanted. The girls did get their brother Doug to join them, but he wasn't interested in being on stage. Doug would instead work as the manager and roadie for his sisters and the band they would put together. The siblings decided to play songs people already knew and loved. This would set them apart of the thousands of other bands out there. They would become a retro band. The siblings started their search for additional band mates. Through a family friend, they found Carlos Cruz, a talented drummer. Once Carlos was on board, they continued searching for another guitar player and a bass guitar player, Faith played guitar, keyboards and sang. April sang, played keyboards, flute, xylophone, saxophone and a little guitar. Doug could play guitar, drums and sing, but he preferred to remain off stage, handling the band's affairs. Carlos was able to help with recruiting the last two members. He knew a couple of really good guys. Carlos had talked with them in the past about forming a group, but nothing ever came from it. Bass player, Tyler Banks and guitarist Mathew "Matt" Shaw, soon joined the band. Matt was very talented with several instruments. Besides playing lead guitar and singing. Matt also played saxophone, keyboards, steel guitar, banjo and trumpet.
Once the band was set. Doug sat everyone down and they talked over how everything would work out. The band would travel around the country. Playing bars, clubs, parties, dances, weddings and county fairs. Doug created a website, were customers could book the band. He also encouraged his sisters to make accounts on facebook and twitter. Faith wasn't overly thrilled with this, but she understood why it would help the band. Each of the guys were encouraged to do the same. Where ever the band played. Doug wanted the band to make friends with locals and exchange information with them. Putting fans on their social media accounts, would help the band get more jobs. It all made sense, and it would help the band. Once that was settled. Talked turned towards picking a name. Faith & April had one they thought was a winner. They wanted to call the band "Rewind". The name sounded great for a retro band. Doug would get t-shirts made up. They could sell the shirts along with other items. Doug also planned on the band recording their own CD's and selling them. They could book time in any recording studio anywhere they played. Doug was on the ball with his plans. He would make a great manager for the band. Plus, his sisters had a lot of faith in him.
The band pooled their money and with the help of Mason Walker. The sisters bought a large panel truck for the band's instruments & equipment. Between what Mason gave his kids and what the other band members had. They were ready to play any kind of music in any location. The sisters then bought an old tour bus, which belonged to the band, Journey. A band which Rewind would play songs from. Tyler hitched his car to the tour bus. Matt placed his motorcycle inside the truck. Carlos & Tyler would drive the truck most of the time. Doug & Matt would take turns driving the bus. Rewind hit the road, after saying goodbye to Mason Walker. The band needed to make a name for themselves. They worked mostly small bars for $500 dollars a night. It took time, but the band was soon playing bigger and better places. After a year on the road. The band was finally become famous on the internet. April began using YouTube. Posting clips of the band with the tag. "Be Kind......We're Rewind". This became the band's catchphrase. Doug had shirts printed up with that phrase written on them. The website Doug created for the band, was soon being used to book them for shows. They'd been playing bars and clubs mostly. Though, they were getting request to do parties and dances. They soon had more bookings then days off. The band's biggest gig was playing 5 shows at the Kansas State Fair. One show everyday, starting on Tuesday afternoon. It was $1,000 dollars a day for 5 days. The band would make $5,000 dollars for just playing. Selling their items at the fair was icing on the cake. The band had a long drive to reach Hutchinson, Kansas. They arrived Monday afternoon. This would give them time to sell items ahead of time and get ready to do their shows. Doug parked the bus behind the stage. Tyler parked the truck along side. The group got out of their vehicles to stretch and look around. They could already smell the great fair food.
