Riley was sitting draped in only a big towel that was tied around her front. She sat on a bench in a small shower/locker room of a big rest stop that mostly catered to truck drivers. She had paid to take a hot shower after being on the road with a couple of her close friends. They had been driving twelve hours across the country heading west. They had been secretly planning the trip for months. Well, Riley had done most of the planning and had worked two part time jobs on top of being a student to have the funds to do so. It was nearing mid-fall and it was the perfect month to go: the month of ghouls, pumpkin and everything harvest. Her 21st birthday fell on October 17th so it had been a road trip/ birthday celebration. All of her family thought she was taking a trip to some tourist attractions in California.

They were actually going to the abandoned town of Cold Creek. The place had been a thriving medium sized town until tragedies had happened, eventually forcing the populace to relocate to nearby areas. Several children ended up missing and were never found, but it was suspected they were lured back and killed by a man who was the owner of an entertainment establishment called Freddy’s Frazbear’s Pizzeria. What exactly happened and the timeline of events was a little blurry. Over time, the restaurant closed down - along with its sister location. More children ended up going missing; some even being found murdered, though done by copy cat criminals who were using the lore to aid their own evilness. The town attracted a lot of urban and paranormal explorers; even famous investigators had visited the town more than once because of its popularity. The town was known as a ghost town where actual horrors had taken place, and the weird thing was, was that it happened in recent decades.

Riley wasn’t just some strange girl obsessed with the paranormal or any other dark history, but she had been a part of it. Fifteen years ago, she had been a normal happy little girl living in Cold Creek. Her mother had worked as a helper at the kid pizzeria. “Helper” was a friendly word for a waitress. Therefore, it was common for little Riley to be present at the restaurant quite frequently…especially in the summer. She had spent so many days, even after hours there that it was another home until the summer when the kids went missing and things started to go down hill fast. Riley had been friends with most of the children and had even been close to the owners’ own children. She could remember everyone so vividly: the smells, the emotions, how everything looked and felt. Certain weather, smells, or music would trigger a flashback. Her mother had taken all of their savings and moved them across the country - closer to her mother’s boyfriend’s family. They had eventually married, but then divorced. Everything she knew as a child was ripped from her without much explanation. So she grew to become obsessed with it, it became a hobby.

“Riley! Come on….you’re on a time limit, other people want to use it…..” her friend hissed cracking open the door and broke it. She snapped out of her weird mood and nodded. It took her less than ten minutes to dry off, get changed into something more casual and clean up, throwing all her hygiene products in her duffle bag. She hurried out of the locker room to find her friends across the street at a diner. She headed to the car with her friend Libby. Two other friends, David and Josh, had went with them. She threw her stuff in the SUV and locked it. She had rented the vehicle for two weeks to save her old car at home from breaking down.

You okay? You didn’t sleep good did you?” Libby asked eyeing her friend as they walked across to the diner. Riley pulled over a green feild jacket that had a hoodie on it, as it was very cool outside.

Yeah a little….I’ll try to get some sleep tonight on the road.” She said.

I’ll sing you a lullaby…..” Libby teased leaning into her friend as they entered the old diner to catch their other two friends who were. already waiting for them.

Maybe if I knew all of them well
I wouldn't have been trapped inside this hell that holds me
Maybe if I casted out a spell
But told them decorations were in pastel ribbons

Maybe it's a cruel joke on me
Whatever, whatever
Just means there's way more cake for me
Forever, forever

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to
I'll cry until the candles burn down this place
I'll cry until my pity party's in flames

“Come on, god damn it!” The dark cloudy skies opened up and rain had begun to pour down upon the beat up '89 Ford E150 van, but it wasn't the way the wiper blade had begun to slip off its arm that had Mike cursing his luck. No his luck had been going down hill when an old fright had burned while he had been on duty at the amusement park he worked as a night guard at. His boss, one fat old fuck named Dumass (though every one called him Dumbass behind his back) hand't cared. Much to Mike's surprise the man had openly joked about burning it himself for the insurance money and making it look like an accident since the park was closing any way.

Agreeing to go on a road trip to an abandoned town that wasn't even on the map any more had been the high spot in his week. Mike had heard all kinds of stories about Cold Creek, the hauntings, the murders and the disappearances. He didn’t know when the rumors first started and quite frankly, he didn’t really care. All that mattered, all that mattered was a close friend, his only true friend, had requested Mike's help to reach the town so he could find the answers he needed.

Sighing he reached for the heater and fiddled with it only to curse again when nothing but cold musty air poured from the vents. Turning it off he sat back and tugged his security jacket closer. It had been one of the few things he kept after Dumass fired every one then sold the old park.

His dark eyes darted to the large mass taking up the passenger seat, a faint smile tugging at his lips. His companion was curled up in the seat, grey blanket draped over him. With the hood of his hoodie up only the two rabbit like ears and the front of his muzzle was visible, a pale pink tongue stuck out from between the fuzzy lips.

Mike recalled their first meeting months ago in the dark musty halls of the old fright. It had involved some screaming and using the heavy Mag-light flash light as a makeshift club. Their friendship had one hell of a rocky start but now they were near inseparable.

Before long, a large well lit rest stop popped up seemingly out of no where like an island in the darkness. Mike paused the rattle trap of a van a short distance from the parking lot, searching for any dark or less lit spots to park. He spotted one on the left side of the building and pulled into the parking lot. He parked the van in the dark spot and with a quick jerk of the key the only sound that filled his ears was the drum of rain.

Making his way to the back of the van he rummaged through the mess of old fast food wrappers, empty coffee cups and beer bottles among a few pieces of worn luggage until he rediscovered the small lock box containing a large wad of cash. He wasn't worried about any one breaking into the van due to it being a rust box. Once he extracted a small amount of cash and stuffed it into one pocket, he reburied the lock box under the trash before stepping out of the van. Immediately, a smattering of cold raindrops pelted him, soaking into the black security jacket.

Cursing Mike darted into the restaurant, shaking off some of the rain he paused to look around. Nothing stood out, it was like every other brightly lit rest stop restaurant they had stopped out. The dry warm air smelled heavily of grease and smoke and something he couldn't put his finger on and most the restaurant was thankfully empty. Taking a seat at the long counter he picked up one of brightly colored laminated menus, making a mental note to get something for for his father as well. Hr paused. It was still weird to think of the strange being as his father but he had no doubt that his father's mind and renment resided in that body.

Riley had taken a place beside Libby at a booth in the back of the diner. The old diner was always busy with travelers, especially truck drivers. Both Josh and David had made their orders and handed the girls the laminated menus. It didn’t take Riley long to scan the selection and decide what she wanted. A young woman, probably struggling to survive on the shit tips looked irritated as she took the girls order. Riley would make a note to leave her a large tip, one deed to make someone’s day a little better. She watched the waitress go on to help other customers as her three friends talked about the trip. She leaned back and pulled out her cell phone and saw messages from a few friends, online and local and the usual from her mother. She texted her mother that they had make a pit stop to take a break and was on their way to Washington DC. Which only left them approximately ten hours left, with tolls.

Cold Creek was hard to find because they had literally taken it off maps both digitally and printed in recent years. It was easy to surf far enough to get general idea’s from explores over the Internet. Riley had also scored an older map off of eBay a year or so back, she had to pay a small good price for it. Cold Creek was a very small peaceful town, it thrived off its tourism, scenery and agricultural. She had downloaded images to put on her phone for easy access and browsed through them. Her friend Libby nudged her and she looked around and noticed a strange young adult male enter who sat at the counter. He was dressed in an old security jacket, she narrowed her eyes trying to see the patch on the shoulder. She thought maybe she was loosing it.

“He’s kind of hot….like every girls emo wet dream.” She said and Riley eyed her friend. She shifted in her seat as the boys were cracking jokes that she was tuning out. She didn’t want to draw attention, she never did. Libby kept going on about the guy, she seemed oblivious to his coat or his strangeness. It felt like forever but the waitress made her way back around and serves their food, she had ordered a double bacon cheese burger with seasoned fries and an Oreo milkshake, Libby stole a good portion of it. She pigged out starving for some reason and continued to eat, not saying much. This was usual behavior so her friends just let her be, she had her moods and with this trip they knew she would be pretty odd.

She finished her food and left a large tip, a twenty dollar bill and paid for her and Libby’s food. She mentioned they could take their time. She left Libby with a text of food to order for to go and things to get in the gas station, fuel, junk food and snacks. She left her the credit card and pulled out her phone and headed out of the diner. She forced herself to look down, to avoid eye contact but couldn’t help looking at the male’s badge. She almost lost her footing on a stool and tumbled over, she grabbed the counter, eyes wide keeping her balance. She breathed out and stood up mumbling an apology, she got a few looks…..she wasn’t wanted to draw fucking attention.

Shit….sorry…..I’m tired.” She said and rubbed her nose and paced out of the diner, letting the glass door close by itself. She jogged back to the rented SUV and opened the door, climbing in the back but letting the door stay open as it drizzled. Her face was flushed, you could’t tell I the dark. She groaned out and laid back starring up at the ceiling, feet hanging out of the SUV.

Mike laid the crumpled road map on the counter, spreading it out. There were no main roads to Cold Creek any more since the city had tore them up in an effort to stop people from going there but there were all manner of side roads that joined into Nathen Ave-Cold Creek's main road. He largely ignored the other people in the dinner and studied the map instead. There were a few rest stops on the way and fewer gas stations. Mike made a mental note to top the tank off and pick up a few bags worth of snacks and a case of beer.

There was a inn near the town at least but with a name like Jack's Inn it was probably a roach motel meaning they would be sleeping in the van instead.

He looked up when the waitress-a middle aged woman with her hair in a tight bun- paused to take his order. After a moment he ordered a pair of cheese burgers, a pile of fries. He'd only be able to eat one, the other was for William. The poor bastard needed to eat something other the small amount of snack food he put down but getting him to eat anything was an uphill battle.

The smell of hot grease and meat drew him from his thoughts. Pushing the map to the side he picked the burger up and devoured it, barely tasting it. Mike reached for his soda when someone roughly bumped into him though before he could react the person was gone. Shrugging it off he took a few long draws of the soda then grimaced. Of course the diner would water it down.

He finished his food, left a tip and stuffed the map into one pocket before getting up and heading to the small store to load up on snack food. They were likely going to have to stay the night in the van again which meant he was going to have to clean all the trash out of it.

Mike piled the counter high with all manner of moon pies, popcorn and assorted junk food and paid with cash. The piled would hold them over until they reached the next gas station or rest stop. Goodies in hand Mike pulled the jacket closer to him then stepped outside the gas station.

Riley stayed planted laying down in the back of the SUV, the door open, legs hanging out as it rained. She listened to the sound of the big droplets falling against the roof of the vehicle. As her eyes were closed she could picture the pizzeria so clearly. She had been just a little girl, innocent, curious and carefree. She had spent so many days there after school and even when other children would be in school, she got the privilege of being there when it was open but dead. She could vividly see the shiny black and white checkered linoleum, the old party’s tunes, the smell of the pizza and after taste of icing from the cake. Most families brought their own decorations sometimes along with personal decorated or professionally baked cakes, but you could always make a reservation and let Freddy’s staff do all the decorating and catering. The food wasn’t that bad. She had eaten a lot of the menu as she was a regular. Her mother would always be cleaning, serving, or in the back doing various other task. Always quietly coloring or doing homework at a booth, freely wandering. She had gotten so use to the animatronics on stage moving and singing it was second nature to not always notice them.

Her mind faded into her deep thoughts as the rain got harder. Some of the seat was getting wet as lightening flashed. In her mind she could remember one of the best memories of her childhood. She had stayed home from school from a sore throat, she was devastated because it was when a school valentine party was being held. She instead had gone to the doctors to get checked and then went to her mother to work. She had spent most of the day sleeping off medication, watching her mother clean. She was sad and sick, and had an attitude even toward her mother, being a child not understanding. Then she noticed a familiar face, a security guard. She always called him Mr. M but others called him Mike. He was always super nice, making jokes and teasing her. She glared at him with tired eyes but he motioned her to follow him. She crawled out of the booth and walked in her socks toward the main stage, the animatronics were asleep. Normally if it was dead enough, they kept them off to preserve power. He winked and disappeared down the hallway leaving her there. She rubbed her eyes while sighing being sleepy.

Suddenly the stage came to life as did the animatronics. Lights were flashing and the music was so familiar, it was one of her favorite songs….it was Britney Spears. Her jaw dropped as the security guard had somehow programmed the animatronics to dance and lip sync the music. Riley lit up in seconds, her face flushed as she laughed out excited. She was completely in awe and watched, Chica was the one actually singing behind the keyboard. Riley was left to be her inner child singing and dancing, the jerky movements and random glitches in the robotics didn’t frightened her. As the music continued she was lost dancing all over the establishment and found herself diving into the ball pit. She could feel the joy, hear her own hoarse laughter as she swam through the pit balls. She poked her head out of the ball pit as the song ended, out of breath laughing. She saw Mike smiling by the stage, she cradled out of the cage as she saw her mother with Gatorade and food. She noticed the owner who was also very friendly, he was talking to a few others in the kitchen but smiled at Riley. That day ended with her bugging Mike the rest of the day.

Riley woke up when the others were getting into the SUV. Libby had pushed her feet in and was sliding in to shut the door. Luckily it was dark so they could’t notice her glossy eyes, she sat up and scooted over so Libby had room. She blinked and rubbed her face, in her mind she could still see him with the bunny suit. Why was so parts so easy to remember but other parts not. She nodded and pretended to be sleepy to be left alone.

The wind as cold and damp as early fall could make it tugged at his clothing with chilly indivisible fingers and made him shiver and tug the jacket closer while rain began to soak into his clothing. Cursing the weather he rapidly hurried towards the van, hand reaching out to grab the handle only to pause when something caught his attention. A piece of paper had bee shoved under the worn windshield wiper on the drives side. He ignored it for a moment since it wasn't unusual for someone to put a trashy flier on the van but something drew him back to the damp paper. The dark bold letters that spelled out Faz Bears Frights were barely visible in the dim light shed by a near by light.

Mike froze, a twinge of fear seeping through him. He snatched the flier up the looked around frantically. There was no one else in the small parking lot that he could see. Feeling a chill that had nothing to do with the cold he climbed into the van and dug out a tiny pen light from the center console.

The thin paper, while damp and tattered, was still readable. Faz Bears Fights presents Freakshow, below the words was the illustration of a creepy clown like creature with bright green eyes. He could just barely make out the dates and location of the traveling show.

Someone had to be playing sick joke.

Or someone had bought what was left of the old fright and now owed a cheap small traveling show that made money off cheap scares. But there had bee nothing left after the fire, of that he was sure unless there was stuff iin storage that they didn't know about.

Mike sighed and stuffed the flier into a pocket, hands shaking slightly from something other the the biting chill that filled the van.

Had to be a sick joke.

Mike glanced over to his sleeping companion and decided not to ever mention the odd flier. He didn't want to upset his old man.

Cold Creek wasn't too far off, a few more hours, maybe more then they would find a hotel to stop at for the night and hopefully no more strange fliers would appear. Pushing the faint strands of fear and worry down, he fished out the keys and started the van. After a few tires the engine roared to life. He backed the van out of the small parking lot and turned it down the dark lonely road. The dim headlights barely broke the thick blackness in front.

The minutes slowly turned into hours while the miles and the road stretched on. Once he turned onto Nathan Ave- the only road into Cold Creek- he noticed a disconcerting change in the condition of the road. Pot holes and cracks appeared forcing him to slow down to avoid the worst ones.

His thoughts were still stuck on the flier when the van's left front wheel hit a large pot hole and the badly worn tire all but exploded causing the van to swerve violently jarring Mike from his thoughts. He gripped the wheel tightly while fear surged through his veins. He desperately tried to keep the top heavy vehicle began to lean dangerously to the left.

Unable to fight the forces of gravity the van continued to tilt to the side until it slammed down hard and scrapped along the road in a shower of sparks before sliding down a shallow embankment, coming to a rest in a ditch. Its remaining wheels turned slowly while thin tendrils of smoke drifted from the crumpled front.

The four young adults traveled along the highway for hours without stopping, both of the girls rested in the backseat while the boys took turn’s driving. The rented SUV, followed a programmed course put into the GPS. Riley was up and had been scrolling through her phone. One of the boys mentioned how bad of condition the road was, that it was almost impossible to drive. That it was almost dangerous and upon driving slow, very slowly they noticed a van in the ditch up ahead. They didn’t know how long it had been there and they all looked at each other before Libby was already climbing out of the SUV and carefully treading the road with one of the boys to the location of the van. They had drove most of the day and the sun had set, so it was pitch black. Libby had switched on a flashlight. The moon was the only thing giving any sort of illumination on the dark back road. Forest were thick all around for stretches of miles. It was only after a couple of minutes they had run into another, awkward but strange young male who seemed to be the owner of the older vehicle. Libby had wanted to make sure they were alright and explained they were also on their way to Cold-Creek to do some urban exploring, she left out the location for privacy of Riley. They figured other paranormal and urban explorers often tried to get to the abandoned ghost town.

Riley had stayed by the SUV with David as Josh was with Libby talking to Mike. Riley had crawled back into the SUV and saw they were not to far from Cold-Creek. She was also checking to see if there was any accessible roads or alternate routes they could take, she pulled out her tablet and was looking at documents, old maps she had downloaded.

Mike pressed one hand to the side of his head with a wince. The hair on that side matted down, sticky with blood. Must have hit my head on the steering wheel or something. Though he couldn't remember if he did or not. From his position on the cold damp grass he looked over the van. Whelp, its fucked. He winced again when one of the young woman pestered him, cold slender fingers pressing against the scalp wound. "Ow...its fine...stop poking at that....its just a shallow cut, scalp wounds bleed like crazy." Hurt like crazy too.

Mike sat on the side of the road, the only light coming from the small groups SUV, half listening to what was being said through a haze of exhaustion and worry. There was no sign of Springtrap and since no one was screaming and running he must have gotten free and hide some where near by.

Mike slowly got to his feet, brushing the damp leaves and grass from his jacket and pants with one hand, head throbbing. There was no way he could go looking for his companion much less let the others know about him. He had to trust that wasn't too badly hurt and remembered the plant to meet up at the trashy hotel off the edge of the highway. The one that looked like a sleazy cheap place where they would need to cover the bed in plastic wrap due to the sheer amount of grossness.

"Let me grab my crap first. There's a hotel at the end of the street just before town. " he limped down the embankment, grabbed his pack and a duffel bag as well. He tossed both into the back seat before slowly climbing in. No doubt he was going to feel every bruise come morning though he was certain Michael was going to be feeling a lot worse then he was.

Libby led Mike back to the SUV and let him sit in the backseat. As they all climbed back into the rental, the newcomer would notice Riley in the very back of the SUV which had been converted into a kind of makeshift bed/storage area and she was busy trying to browse through older maps on her tablet. Riley looked upward as she saw it was the very person back at the diner she had accidentally run into, that and she clearly remembered his security jacket and the patch on it being of Freddy's Fright. Riley was quiet and wide eyed and looked out the back at the van in the ditch and then back at everyone else in the SUV, David and Josh up front and Libby in the back with Mike. Libby did her best to half ass introduce everyone, including Riley. Riley just looked up but did nothing more than stick to herself. They carefully proceeded down the road and followed the directions of Mike and eventually came upon a very cheap run down sketchy hotel. Everyone got out of the SUV and Riley pushed out from the back and climbed out looking at the place, it was debatable if it was even open. The two boys and Mike headed out to the main office to see about getting any rooms and Riley stayed back with Libby.

“Your very quiet....I mean we couldn’t leave him out here. He was back at the diner….he seems to be heading in the same direction. Maybe he can help….” Libby tried to be more uplifting and Riley just shrugged, she wasn’t really sure what she thought. Riley wasn’t just on some ghost hunt, she was looking for answers and more dangerously was being drawn back here. For years it was a dull pull and the closer they got. The more she was invested and right now they were basically there and she couldn’t even begin to describe how she felt. Oddly enough she kept strangely looking around like she knew something else was close and around.

David and Josh walked back out laughing seeming amused with whatever they had found in the rental office and they came up to the girls holding up one key, a room that had two beds. They headed around to the room they had gotten for the night and walked in. It looked outdated about twenty years but seemed somewhat clean, just very dusty. Libby checked the bathroom as the boys looked around.

“Yeah fuck this...you guys can camp out here. I feel safer in the rental so I’m gonna take a piss and then sleep out there.” Riley said and Libby made a face at the boys as Riley went to the bathroom.

Mike tried to not give away too much information about what he was doing out in the middle of nowhere. He came up with a story about how he worked for Sinclair Ammusments (the owner of Fazbear Entertainment and the fright). That he was on an errand to Cold Creek to scout out an old amusement park to see what remained and what condition it was in. Cheaper to send one person then an entire work crew on a scouting trip. That is before the vans wheel blew and he ended up in a ditch.

Maybe they would believe it. He didn't know them well enough to let them in on the truth as to why he was headed to the town.

While he did notice the young lady he had bumped into at the dinner sitting quietly in the back, he said nothing. Instead he filed the information away for later.

Jacks Inn looked something straight out of the Phycho movie with its run down shabby appearance. Instead of Norman Bates, an overweight middle aged man came to the desk, fingers caked in orange Chetto dust.

He manged to get a room for an exorbitant price, picked up the heavy duffle, wished the others a good night before going to his room.

Mike dropped the bag on the bed and looked out the window in t o the darkness, waiting and becoming worried. He hoped his traveling companion had not been injured in crash. The minutes ticked by and still he waited, pacing the dimly lit room and was about to looking when someone knocked on the door. He sprinted across the room and opened the door, allowing the limping tall hoodie wearing figure in. He glanced outside hoping no one had seen t he other the closed the door.

William limped to one of the chairs and flopped down hard with a grimace, leaving a trail of dark fluid on the mangy carpet.

"Shit...how bad is it?" Mike dropped to his knees in front of the other to get a better look at the damage. He sucked in a shallow breath at the sight of gash that traveled from the yellow rabbits knee to mid thigh. It was deep enough he could see twitching pale artificial tecno organic muscle, a gleam of metal along with wires and damaged lines. The claws of panic grabbed at his insides but Williams voice snapped him out of it.

"The first aid kit...get it. There should be a suture set in there. My hands are shaking too much, you'll have to do it." He leaned further back in the chair, hands gripping the arms of the chair.

Mike wanted to argue that he couldn't do it either and that his hands were shaking too but he retrieved the supplies from the back.

"At least we don't have to worry about you getting an infection." He joked weakly. Sucking in a shallow breath he steadied his hands and picked up the curved needle. Get it together Mike, he told himself. You faced down pissed off nightmare animtronics, burned down a fright, survived a wreck, you can't let a needle get the best of you.

" I am long past that." His grip on the chair tightened, lip curling in a silent snarl of pain when the curved needle passed through the tough artificial skin. He bit down on his tongue and squeezed his eyes shut while faint tremors passed through him.

"Almost done." Mike quickly finished then disposed of the needle in the trash can with a shudder. Behind him he could hear William getting up with a bit of difficulty and retrieveing his gear from the bag. While Mike thought it was a little odd that an animtronic would wear clothes, William had been human once and in many ways, still was.

He leaned against the wall, staring through the window, mind going in circles about how they were going to get to Cold Creek now.

Libby tried to get Riley to give the old hotel room a chance but Riley wasn’t dealing with it. Exploring an old abandoned building was one thing, sleeping in a mattress that god knows what had happened in it was another. She headed out to the SUV and crawled into the back and locked the rental from the inside and made a makeshift bed with all the covers and sleeping bag in the back. It was cold, so she ended up crawling up front and turning on the heat and letting it run in idle so the SUV would warm up. She kicked off her tennis shoes and jacket just being in her leggings and white v-neck t-shirt. She sat up front while the SUV warmed up playing on her phone even though there wasn’t much service out here. She grabbed her earbuds and put them inside her ears to listen to music. She ended up falling asleep up front while listening to music in front of the wheel, oblivious to anyone that may have caught her attention.

Her playlist would play through song after song as she stayed asleep in the rental's warmth while her friends were inside the hotel room. In the early hours of the morning Riley would stir and wake up suddenly and looked around realizing she had fallen asleep in the rental as it was running and it was super toasty. She didn’t turn it off just yet as she recollected her thoughts looking out at the old hotel, her friend's room light was dimmed and she did not know what room the other guy went too. They were so close they were practically in Cold Creek.

Then out of nowhere she had the sudden urge to just go, to just up and leave her friends at the safety of the sketchy ass hotel and head to the place to herself. She needed to be alone. At least that’s what her mind was telling her as this place had an affect. She silently slipped back on her tennis shoes and climbed back getting her tablet she had been charging with the told maps. The other kid had mentioned they were super close. She zoomed in and found a road that maybe her way in with minor problems. After getting settled back into the driver's seat and keeping off the headlights and buckling up she put the rental into drive and ever so slowly creeped out of the hotel parking and kept her lights off as long as possible. Then once she got a certain distance, she flipped on her brights and turned down the maintenance road which was made out of gravel; she turned on all four-wheel drive. She had turn off her brights with how thick the fog was getting; it was so fucking thick she could barely see in front of her but she kept driving.

Then she finally hit a major road and knew she was there….she was in, she could feel it and there were landmarks she could make out from when she was smaller that stood out. She was home. No more running. The god cleared out a little as she drove through the abandoned town, there were still cars just left out. It looked like there was some apocalypse here with the way things were left. Her friends had all thought the big place to go to would be the abandoned amusement park, but she was secretly needing to find her mom's old work, the place she had stayed so many days and weekends. She was able to navigate through the town pretty well in her rental, the main roads were mainly just old but clear.

It must have been seven in the morning by the time she got to where she wanted to be. She turned off the rental with her hands gripping the steering wheel. She climbed into the far back of the SUV and pulled on a long sleeve shirt and then threw on her jacket putting her hair into a messy ponytail. Then she pushed the covers back and pulled up where a spare tire was for the rental and saw the handgun she had hid from everyone. She pulled the handgun out checking it and locking in the cartridge letting you know she knew how to use it. After that she grabbed a flashlight and got out of the SUV shoving the keys in her pocket.

=============================

Her friends would still be passed out at the hotel unaware their friend had just dangerously ditched them and ventured off into one of the worst places she could alone.

Mike eyed the single bed and decided there was no way in hell he was sleeping on it. Not with out a few layers of plastic wrap between him and the mattress. There was no telling who last slept on it or when it was last cleaned. The overstuffed chairs with questionable stains and grungy matted orange carpet would be safer to sleep on.

He looked to William, eye brows lifting slightly. He'd be lying if he said the other wasn't mildly attractive even with the exposed metal of his joints. He had just enough in the way of muscle mass over those metal bones to give him some bulk and curves under all the fur.

"Hey, Spr-" he caught himself before the word slipped out, recalling how much William detested the nickname. The last nightguard that used despite being warned ended up with a broken jaw.

Williams ears flattened slightly while a ridge of yellow gold fur bristled. It was so subtle he would have missed it if he hadn't been watching the other.

"Shit, sorry, I know you hate being called that. It just slipped out." Mike shifted in place though William said nothing. Instead he continued to button up the navy blue shirt, hands shaking faintly, leaving an uncomfortable silence between them.

One ear flicked towards the window picking up the faint rumble of an engine followed by the crunch of gravel. The sound faded. "It appears they left with out us." There had only been one vehicle in the cracked overgrown parking lot, a SUV. It was too late to warn the group about what they were headed into. Maybe they could catch up later and try to convince them to leave the town.

Mike cursed and peered out the window. Sure enough the SUV was gone. "Now how are we going to get there?" It was far too late for any store to be open and the last gas station was a good fifteen miles away. Mike sighed and rubbed one hand over his face. Feeling three days worth of stubble he made a mental note to shave.

"We walk. Its not that far." He felt a pain of worry for the group. The strangers really didn't know what they were getting into. The town wasn't what it appeared to be. "There's a short cut, shouldn't take more then a few hours. We can leave closer to the morning. The thing primarily come out at night." He tugged at the shirt leaving the top two buttons undone.

He had another reason for waiting. His leg was blazing in pain though he did his best to hide that. Part of him missed his old body, pain had been something he simply didn't feel. He barely felt anything as corpse jerky in a rotting bunny suit. Until an eldritch fog entity changed all that. It wasn't a bad change really, he felt more alive now then he had in thirty years. Unfortunately that meant he could feel pain and be harmed easier. In his old body he could have lost an arm then take said arm and beat someone to death with it then reached it. Now if he lost a limb he had no doubt that he'd pass out right then and there and reattaching the limb would be messy and painful.

"You might as well take a shower. We have several hours until dawn."

"What about you?" Mike asked while retrieving his shower kit from the bag.

"I'll be fine. I don't want to get that gash wet." William shrugged, pulling a neatly rolled map out and unrolling on to the table.

"Suit yourself. I'm hogging all the hot water." He teased.

"Don't hog all the damn hot water! I hate cold water!"

"You should have gone first." With that he shut the bathroom door.

William waited until he heard water running then stepped into the damp steamy bathroom with a devius smile. Old hotels tended to have low water pressure. He reached over, still smiling, and flushed the toilet. A few seconds later an unmanly scream came from the shower followed by God damn that's cold.

He limped back to main room, in a better mood. He removed his shot gun from the bag and laid it on the table near the map. If they followed Nathan Avd, the old road would take them straight to cold creek.

The sun would just have started to show itself for the next day when there was a loud banging on their hotel room. Obviously it was Libby, and she was hysterical over her best friend abandoning them and taking the SUV to go into the abandoned town herself. The two boys were just as shocked as Libby and had left the hotel room splitting up to do a full walk around the building but would find nothing as Libby was desperate. She didn’t want to involve the cops yet because no one was supposed to be visiting the town. It was illegal and trespassing and she didn’t want to cause any alarm to her parents when Riley had a straight up lied to them about where she was traveling for her birthday. When the hotel door would open, he would get a mouthful before he could even recollect himself but they would have already known someone left just not that it was the one girl by herself.

“She left...she left all of us and took the god damn vehicle. She went in the middle of the night. This isn’t like her...she just doesn’t up and leave us, especially me. Riley is to smart to be this stupid and careless...she’s been different, obsessed with this fucking trip for months….she planned it and everything. There something about that town...I think she grew up there, I think it was her childhood home. She didn’t really tell me much but I figured it out....she’s gonna get herself hurt or worse. What the fuck are we supposed to do….” Libby was clearly shaken and the boys looked just as confused and lost behind her standing out in the parking lot.

Mike jerked awake with a snort, bleary-eyed and hair a mess. He sat up, yawning wondering when he had fallen sleep. Pushing off the sagging musty smelling mattresses and zombie shuffled to the door. Who the hell could be banging on the door?

He opened the door to be greeted by searing light and the group he arrived with. He lifted a hand to sheild his eyes from the light. It was too damn early to be awake. Before he could ask what they wanted the girl verbally dumped all over him.

"What do you mean she left?" It took several seconds for his sleep fogged brain to catch what had been said.

William jerked awake, wincing as he rubbed at the back of his neck. Never sleeping in a chair again. One ragged ear flicked towards the voices. Then he heard a name that snapped him fully awake, memories flooding through the haze of sleep. He all but lunged out of the chair, nearly falling when the injured leg gave out. Gritting his teeth he gripped the arm of the chair slowly forcing himself to his feet and limped to the duffle bag, pulling out the shot gun the shouldering the bag.

"We have to go. Now."

"Wait...now?" Mike stared at him in confusion, forgetting about the trio for a moment.

"She has no idea what she's getting herself in. I'm not letting her face that place alone. " he pushed the worry and fear down though it kept clawing its way back up. The eldritch fog entity that inhabitanted the town lured people like Riley and entrapped them. She didn't deserve that

She probably didn't remember him but that wasn't important. He had lost too many that he had cared about.

Mike groaned inwardly and followed William out the door. ",I'll explain latter." He told the trio hoping they handled William's unusual appearance better then most.

Libby was almost pushed to the side as the two left the hotel room and she was just blown away by the second person or what she thought was a person who left. Mike pitched he would explain all that later, but that they had to leave. They had to do this on foot so they had some miles ahead of them but would be able to hit the town in a few hours and since they were on foot, they could avoid shitty roads. Libby had made the boys rent out the hotel room another few days just to be safe so they could leave their stuff for it and if they didn’t return, it wasn’t a huge loss.

“What the hell…is---” Libby would just get quiet being confused, there wasn’t time to be afraid of it and the other boys were still back in the hotel room. It wasn’t long before the other two were back and looking just as freaked out as Libby and she just gave them questionable stares, maybe he was cos-playing and was one of those weird nerd kids or some shit, who knew and she just shrugged, right now they had to get to Riley and make sure she was ok. Libby would try to keep texting her but her messages weren't sending.

==================================================================

Riley had walked all around the building of the old Pizzeria but they had done a damn good job locking it up. All the windows and doors were heavily boarded up and nailed shit. She tried to even get a crowbar from her rental and was working on one of the side exits trying to pry off the wood but she had gotten two panels off when she noticed what vague daylight was visible was fading with a storm rolling in, a huge ass dark storm which was almost out of place. It was enough to make her stop and walk away from the job she was doing to look up at the oncoming storm. She gulped and knew something was wrong and was starting to regret coming by herself but maybe she was saving her friends from the hell this place was, the hell she was trapped inside of her mind. She thought about trying to get in her rental and racing back toward the hotel but her mind was foggy and she wasn’t sure she would be able to find her way back. Her head was starting to lightly throb. She went back and tried to keep working on the exit, if she could get inside the abandoned building to wait out the hellish storm that was closing in

That could have gone better, William thought. There was a total lack of screaming and thrown objects. Maybe they thought he was some one in a costume. Though the moment he was injured...he huffed, they would deal with it when it happened. That or they got a good look of the exposed metal of his joints.

Nathan Ave was miles long, soon the cracked pavement gave way to rutted gravel and dirt road since most the abandoned road had been ripped up years ago. William began to limp badly though he refused to stop

"Cell phones don't work in town. The entity there...it does something to electronics." He paused to lean against the twisted hulk of tree, legs blazing in pain.

"Then how are we supposed to find her?" Mike was beginning to wonder what he had gotten himself into.

"I think I know where she's going." And he hoped he reached her before something else did.

"What about your leg?" Concern filled his voice as he watched his companion.

William shook his head "It hurts but I'll be fine." He had suffered worse then this, a lot worse yet he continued to keep going.

The crack of distant thunder pulled them from their thoughts. Massive black and grey clouds were forming a large anvil shaped thunder head in the distance. Maybe the rain would drive Riley to shelter and keep her from the old restraunt and the dark secrets it held.

"Will-"

"I can make it." He bristled, ears pinning while giving Mike a dark look.

Mike held his hands up and stepped back. Still the worry niggles at the back of his mind. There was no way in hell he could carry Williams two hundred something pounds even with the help of the others.

William pushed of the tree with a grimace. They needed to reach the town. That involved several more miles down the road, past the observation deck that looked out over Toluca Lake. If they were lucky they would reach it by nightfall.

Libby was still pretty fucking sketched out about the yellow rabbit costume bullshit but just let it go. She didn’t feel like asking for more personal information when right now Mike and his companion were there only hope of getting Riley back alive and in one piece. The other two boys, Josh and David kept closer to Libby and talked amongst themselves as they started down the road into the abandoned city. Hopefully, if they got to Riley they could get the rental and they would all have a ride back if the rental was also in one piece, god forbid Riley had to pay for the damages done to a rental car. As they got further down the road and it turned into gravel, they stopped when the strange costumed dressed individual seemed to be slowing them down and was injured in some way. Libby would occasionally try to check her cell phone but of course it wasn’t working. Libby at this point wanted to start running, she was deathly worried for her friend and still didn’t know why she just fucking took off like that. One of the stupidest things she had ever done. As they got closer they could see the dangerous-looking storm which only seemed to be over Cold Creek right now, if Riley was there Libby hoped she was somewhere safe or in the rental.

========================================

Riley knew if she didn’t find shelter quickly she was going to get caught in this hellish storm and dropped the crowbar and jogged out into the street until her eye’s settled on an abandoned strip mall and she sprinted across the street, pushing as fast as she could through the parking lot to get to walkway. She jogged down trying to find a shot that was open or a way in and found glass doors that had been busted leading into some abandoned grocery. She stepped inside and paced looking backwards going further back since all the glass up front was broken, not reeling sheltering the front part of the store. She had used her flashlight as it got darker as she walked down the aisle trying to remember what store this was, if she remembered it was just a local private market. She slid down to her knees as she heard the storm rip apart raining down heavily; it sounded awful and the lightning and thunder was insane with it.

The storm winds were violent, and the wind was howling and Riley was thankful she had found shelter in time and was trying to catch her breath. She sent up on the floor leaning against the old shelving trying to keep it together. She then felt her phone vibrate like she just got a notification or text. She dug it out of her jacket pocket hopeful maybe one of the others had gotten a text through even though she had just ditched them. It wasn’t anyone she knew….

Fetch 3:35 PM: Hi Friend....you’ve come back home. I can see you. If you survive the night, we can be best friends.

Riley panicked not knowing who the fuck it was and frantically looked around the abandoned store but only could hear the raging storm outside. She wouldn’t say anything looking at her phone, there was no number...just the name.

Fetch 3:40 PM: The others are coming for you and someone from you know from here is with them..he’s dangerous. He will hurt you. I will protect you from him.

Then to make things even scarier and more emotional. The predator sent a media picture to her phone. A picture she had never seen because she was younger. It was a picture of everyone she knew at the pizzeria. Her mom and a few other workers, Riley was in the picture but she was planted on someone shoulders holding onto his head, smiling stupidly at the camera as they were all in front of the center stage in front of the animatronics. It brought back memories she hadn’t remembered until now. Flashes of her being young and happy, laughing as her mother rolled her eyes as the man flipped her over to his front holding her, tickling her while throwing her up in the air and catching her. Her eye’s were swelled with tears as she still couldn’t put a name to him…..

Fetch 3:45 PM: He will kill you….he’s just like the others. Don’t let him deceive you….he’s a rotten rabbit.

Riley had no idea what the hell the person meant and was already overly emotional and losing it. She cried out over the storm, she was shaking from the fear building in her as she was alone with whoever in the hell it was toying with her.

The restraunt...that's were she likely went. Hopefully she didn't gain access to the abandonment and stirred something up.

By the time they reached the town the sky was dark, blue-black clouds rolling steadily overhead while forked tounges of lightening danced among the clouds. Mike glanced upwards, growling worried. The wind was picking up, ripping branches off the dead trees and blowing trash around. A moment later the deluge began, icey cold rain sheeted down soaking clothing and fur alike. William grumbled, ears pinned back to keep the water out of them while Mike cursed.

William pushed past the pain, worry chewing at the back of his mind. She should have stayed well away from the town. She would had been safe if she had. They had to find her and do so quickly.

The shadowy form if the old restraunt loomed ahead, all its windows covered in boards. There in the overgrown parking lot was the SUV.

"We need to split up." Mike pushed his dark wet hair out of his eyes, a chill settling in him that had nothing to do with the rain. He could sense that William was going to protest so he cut him off before he could voice his concerns. "Why don't you and Libby take the strip mall and we'll take the restraunt."

William tightened his grip on the shot gun, jaw clenching before relenting. The animtronics, if they still functioned, would likely not attack the trio. Due to Hennery's tampering the machines wouldn't hesitate to attack him. "Be careful." He handed Mike the weapon the turned towards the ruins of the strip mall. All the stores had broken windows and missing doors. She could be in any of them.

"I'll take the grocery store, you take the sporting goods store." While he felt a faint pang of guilt for sending Libby off by herself but he needed to find Riley.

Glass crunched under foot as he stepped into the ruined store, ears flicking forward. The air was thick with the smell of rust, mildew and moldering paper. He slowly picked his way among the rusting shelves, limping.

Mike walked around the building, the hair on the back of his neck standing on end. The smell of rotting wood and wet stone mixed with something foul filled his lungs with each breath.

The thick plywood was fastened tightly to the building and the doors were locked. Then he spotted a crow bar in the mud near the door. "Looks like she was here and took cover elsewhere."

Libby thought this was absolutely absurd but when they found her rental in front of said place she must have been looking for, all her thoughts of anything else was erased all but wanting to find her. The storm wasn’t any forgiving, and it was cold as they split up. Libby didn’t really say much to the rabbit companion as it was just weird as fuck but when he mentioned for them to split up each starting from opposite ends of the strip mall it made sense and she nodded and started jogging off down to the end of the walkway, pulling up her hood from her hoodie. At least there was some shelter from the storm from the archways above but the wind still basically blew it into your face. She just wanted to find her friend. Libby had found a little old pawn shop and climbed through a window and started calling out for Riley.

=======================

Riley was still devastated from what was happening on her phone. She was too caught up inside of her paranoid mind to realize anyone was outside of the abandoned grocery or that someone even entered the grocery looking after her. She felt like big brother was watching but it was so much worse. Someone was able to hack into her phone and knew personal stuff about her life. She finally heard something and sucked in a breath from behind the aisle, she heard something limping, walking around. She pushed up pulling herself up with tear-filled eyes and slowly peaked from around the isle and then saw something that made her jaw drop and her stomach sink. She wanted to scream but thought she might hallucinate as she saw Willaim in the shadows as the lightning flashed illuminating him in his true form as the deranged rabbit who was injured and in clothing. Then just like her nightmares about animatronics from when she was little, he looked like something like that….in the darkly lit room she couldn’t make out he was much more alive and organic. She remembered the text from whoever it was telling her someone was trying to kill her. She was too dysfunctional mentally to remember she had a handgun, thank god else that may have caused much more harm to the creature than he needed. Instead, she took off sprinting as fast as she could toward the exit.

As you neared the front of the store there was nothing but open space. Like some stupid scene in a horror movie she tripped over a fallen grocery cart and tumbled forward crying out. That gave the rabbit-like creature time to close in and get closer, she pushed off the ground stumbling but two large furry like arms pulled her back into his front as she screamed out. She tried to escape but his hold was much stronger than any man's grip. At this point he would hear her heart pounding against her chest and her adrenaline skyrocketing.

Wet socks were a special hell, Mike decided. He could feel his socks squishing with each step. Fishing out a flashlight from his pocket he flicked it on. The narrow beam piercing the gloom. Rack upon rack of moldy clothing filled the store. Eerie mannequins stood in random places, most missing arms or heads.

"I hate mannequins." He shivered and moved past the, shot gun cradled in his free arm.

‐‐---‐‐-‐---‐--------------

"Riley." She took one look at him and ran. He sighed softly in mild irritation. He was all too aware how intimidating he was but that couldn't be helped. No doubt the deep wells of shadow combined with the harsh flashes of lightning didn't help. He sprinted after her, intending to catch her before she hurt herself on the scattered glass or debris in her state of panic.

When she tripped over an overturned shopping cart and took a bad tumble he felt his heart leap into his throat, her cry ripping at his very being. He lunged, strong arms wrapping around her and pulling her close.

"Easy...I'm not going to hurt you." He winced every time she accidentally hit his upper thigh, aggravating the deep wound. Sucking in a shallow breath he moved away from the broken window and driving rain. "Your alright Riley. The others are worried about you so they went looking for you." He held her, waiting for her to calm down. It hurt that she didn't remember but that was a long time ago. And looked very different. Maybe she would remember if he jogged her memory or she'd just pull away, call him a monster like so many others. Even if she did he would continue to protect her.

He couldn't save the others but he could save her. The memories, faded and fragmented threatened to surface. Ruthlessly he forced the down. Now was not a good time to have a break down. Looking around he spotted a metal bench near by. He made his way over to it, kicking a few rusted cans out of the way, then plopped down all but cradling Riley.

"Calm down Riley before you hurt yourself." He gently brushed the damp hair out of her face. "You probably don't remember me....but I remember you. You were at restaurant when you were sick and were pretty miserable."

Riley had never been so fucking scared in her entire life. It was like being abducted by the Easter Bunny or someone in an easter bunny costume. She was trembling and just trying to hold her breath until he plopped down with her cradled in his lap. He was much taller and massive in this form to easily scoop her up. He brushed her long wet, wavy hair out of her face as he spoke to her. He knew her name! Then he mentioned the restaurant and the one time when she was sick...he said he remembered her. Her heart still continued to race as she tried to look up at whatever had caught her and in the dark, she only got a few seconds when the lightning flashed to see him. She remembered the text and how it would be someone and that picture of him holding her.

“-y-y-you….y-y-your-r-rr him, the security guy....I can’t remember your name….you l-l-liked my mum….” She got out as tears streamed down her cheeks from the shock of all of this. “Are you in a costume……?” She asked taking in deep breaths from being in a panic attack. She let one hand hesitantly touch one of his slouched ears and jerked feeling him moving it. Then somehow everything clicked....she knew he was him but was something else, like her dreams. It was the first time she had contact with anyone from her past in years and it just so happened to be someone she was very attached to. She was there more than just the one time being sick.

“Wh..why are you here…...what happened…….” She couldn’t stop crying. Then she did the only thing she could think of not caring if some random move made this huge bunny like creature hurt her. The young girl leaned up and wrapped her arms around him hugging him, burying her face into the thick matted fur of his neck. He didn’t smell the best but right now that didn’t matter. He was reunited with someone that meant something.

"My name is William. You used to come by the restaurant a lot." He smiled faintly, gently wiping the tears away. When she reached up and touched one ear he flinched faintly, the senstive appendage flicking away from the questing fingers. The breath stilled in his chest as he waits for the inevitable screaming but when it didn't come he relaxed. Instead she stared at him for several minutes, tears streaming down her face. It made his heart or rather the equivalence of ache horriblely.

"Its....not a costume." He looked away, ears drooping. "I was killed by my old business partner when I refused to turn the business over to him. He placed my body in an old spring lock suit. I guess over time the suit and my remains fused." That or an eldritch fog entity had a hand in his current condition. He really wasn't sure. Not that it mattered at this point.

When she leaned forward and wrapped her arms around him, he stiffened, ears pinning back. After a few moments the tension drained from his body and he pulled her close, eyes closing enjoying the sensation of her warmth body pressing against his. It had been so long since he felt any meaningful human contact that he didn't want it to end.

"I'm sorry I scared you." His shoulders slumped. "I saw you fall and was worried that you may have hurt yourself." He rested his lower jaw on the top of her head, one ear tilting towards the windows listening to the calming drum of rain on the windows.

“Will….” She said under her breath more to herself than to him when he revealed his name and it made her since. When she was younger she just always assumed he was the security person but was too little to understand anything more. She did come by the restaurant a lot, too much and more and more memories all jammed together were starting to flood her mind of William. Now that she was somehow with him again, it made sense of how attached to him she was. A part of her had fallen in love with him the only way she could at such a young vulnerable age. Not that it was anything mature but it was still strong. She was going to bring up him being with her mom and sometimes seeing him at her home but decided right now probably wasn’t the time for all that. Then he pulled her closer and she stayed firmly planted in his embrace, not even caring when he rested his jaw on her. She felt automatically safe. She didn’t want to think about the horrors of what he had just told her.

When he mentioned the person who did this to him, it rang a bell because she had done enough research to know he was the culprit behind all the missing children who were more than likely dead. The rain had slowed to a drizzle and wasn’t as violent. Riley squeezed him tighter.
“I thought I would never see you again….I thought you were long gone…..every time I would ask my mom about you she wouldn’t say anything so I eventually stopped and….” she got quiet trying not to sob out, “that’s when me memory lost you as I got older….I came back looking for my memories..”

Suddenly Libby was cursing up a storm and walked in and shined a flashlight on the two and you could tell she was knocked off of her socks as seeing the two glued to each other on the floor. She had never seen her best friend close to anyone hardly ever and yet here she was clinging onto this scary ass rabbit.

“....you’ve got to be shitting me…” she also sounded relieved her friend was alive and bent over on her legs.

Riley looked back at Libby but didn’t move not wanting to let Will go, she knew this must look insane.

"I would have never willing abandoned the place I loved or the people I cared about." It had been a miserable number of lonely years wondering what had happened to those he cared about. "I'm glad you came back....I spent years worrying and wondering what happened to you." Memories of happier times were flooding in although fragmented and faded. He vaugly he called Riley's mother, the woman had been kind but he hadn't been ready for a relationship, not with the divorce still being so fresh.

He winced when she moved closer to him, the movement putting pressure on the injury though he largely ignored the deep throb. He didn’t want to move, didn’t want to get up, the embrace felt comforting. "I'm not going to leave you again." He couldn't lose the only person he had left that he cared about. Every one else was gone, either dead or they had abandoned him after a series of tragic events.

One ear flicked towards the voice though he paid little attention to her since she was no threat to either of them.

One eye opened, the emerald green iris focusing on the newcomer for a moment before closing again as he largely ignored her presence.

Libby was still a little freaked out by the guy in the costume so she thought and was even more freaked out and both confused by the fact her best friend was hugging onto it for dear life. She also noticed William didn’t really acknowledge her presence, and she just stood there and then just left them and walked back toward the front of the store and walked back outside as the storm had died down to a drizzle and she started to head back toward the rental and towards Mike and the others to it least let them know Riley was found and safe....with the weird yellow rabbit. It took Libby only five minutes or fewer to get back toward Mike.

“She’s safe...she alive, she was in one of the grocery stores taking cover from the storm….your friend found her and there together now….” Libby said getting quiet not really knowing how to clarify that any more with how she found them. Libby went off searching for Josh and David who were supposed to be close.

=============

Riley had no idea why she felt so close to William when he wasn’t his human self, it didn’t seem to matter and when he promised he wouldn’t leave her she hoped he meant that. She cuddled into his embrace and even though it was very cool and the rain was cold, his body brought warmth. She hadn’t slept but a few hours before trying to come here and had slept even less than that the nights leading up to this trip. She just stayed clung to him, her breathing getting steadier, he would feel her soft breaths on his neck fur. As if she was a sick kid not wanting to let go of him, just like when she was little.
