These days it seemed a little too easy, or perhaps too stereotypical, to assume that the weirdest events that defied all modern day description happened in Japan. The land was an ancient one that hid many secrets and the people there were heavily rooted in the old ways, the traditional ways, but they showed that through their efforts carving a brand new and err, creative culture. Neon lights, ramen shops, virtual gambling, a fast and furious nightlife and plenty of arcades helped bring this exotic land to life, but the biggest draw for tourists, and the biggest thing that many people remembered about Japan, had to be its animation and the slew of content that burst out from the belly of the beast since the end of WWII. But enough about all that- Japan was now a land of magic and mayhem, as were many other countries, yet the land of the rising sun was notable in that there were plenty of strange magical beings that made the area their playground.
Said magical beings were usually monsters, but there were others. Namely magical girls!
Now, much about magical girls is shrouded in mystery that both they and common folk cannot seem to decipher. Where they came from, what their true purpose is, what the full extent of their abilities are... all a mystery. But one thing that has remained constant over the years is the Oblivion Seed event in which thirteen, or possibly more, magical seeds appear throughout Japan just ripe for the collecting. It is said that if a magical girl collects thirteen Oblivion Seeds they will be granted a single wish, so it was clear that the land of Japan was a very lively and hectic place. This was especially true when said Oblivion Seeds were usually locked away behind tough dungeons that only a magical girl could surmount, held in the inventory of powerful monsters or hidden within the psyche of many unlucky individuals who had fallen to a strange corruption. Gathering 13 seeds for one wish, no matter how trivial or important it was, would be a herculean effort.
But enough exposition, details and whatnot! It was a tranquil Friday night in Tokyo, Japan, or rather, it would have been if not for the ruckus coming from one of the largest arcades in the area. For weeks on end customers and patrons alike complained about the arcade cabinets and other devices eating their tokens or glitching out on them. Sometimes at night there would be sinister voices and disturbing music too. This was all ignored by the owner of the arcade until that one fateful night. Supposedly an arcade cabinet burst to life in a shower of red and purple mist to terrorize the patrons and force them all out, and that a magical girl was needed (or perhaps they would be drawn to the area) in order to put the abomination down.
Whoever the magical girl was that came to investigate, perhaps in the hopes of nabbing an Oblivion Seed or out of good will, would note that a possessed arcade cabinet didn't seem all that frightening or dangerous. Yet people were apt to exaggerate or understate some things from time to time, and when the magical girl got to the arcade, well... there was no telling if the abomination, whatever it truly was, had taken on a new, more terrifying form.
