Jay moved silently in the wide dark halls of the castle. The building was well worn, the soft sweet scent of flowers keeping the smell of brick and mortar at bay. Times of peace had made the land lazy the guards fairly inattentive which helped Jay his spells helping him meld with the shadows as well as remain silent. He moved swiftly knowing where he was headed all to well. When he reached the door he saw the two guards were actually alert here. Jay spent no wasted time moving swiftly head on into the men who barely had time to see the shadows forming the man before he was upon them.

Jay had a small amount of strength, but against these men it would have never been enough so instead he leaned on his reserves of magic his hands touching both men as he whispered a charm the two men going limp the silence around Jay from his spell muffled the two men who hit the ground only slightly abaided by Jay lowering the two down. Waiting for a cry of alarm, or noise felt like an eternity in the silence before he pressed forward feeling his time was short for what he needed as he moved into the princesses quarters.

Jay was wrapped in fine black silk that hid every part of him including his eyes it would not do to be noticed by those who could pierce his magic. Though he did stand at six foot with a slender built frame his shoulders slightly slumped from trying to appear smaller or be unnoticed. It was clear he was both a man, and very well dangerous if the princess were to wake to him approaching.

Melody had decided to retire to her room early. She’d received a new book and her arms were actually a bit sore from her new sword being a bit heavier than the last one she’d received. As soon as she’d shut the door behind her she took a moment to just look around her room. It had a soft yellow tinge to it, with white flowers and designs painted on one wall, courtesy of her oldest brother when she’d turned fifteen three years prior. There were a set of bookshelves against one wall, a beautiful bay window against another. Her four poster bed had a lilac bedspread on it and she smiled. This was her sanctuary, the one place no one would enter without her permission.

Going over to her closet, she removed her clothes and set them in the laundry pile. She then pulled out a long, crimson, tunic that stopped mid thigh on her 5’2 frame. Pulling her dark brown, curly hair, out of the shirt she made sure she had her dagger under her pillow as she had been taught and then settled in with the candle and started reading the book. She had just gotten to the point where the main character in the book had lost his sister to the evil King when she thought she heard a noise outside her quarters.

Setting her book aside, her hand slid under her pillow and she made sure her hand was around the hilt of her dagger. Standing up, Melody looked towards her door that had opened and focused her small amount of magic before throwing her dagger. “Whoever the hell you are, you are not to be here. You have no idea what you’re getting yourself into.” She growled, not an ounce of fear in her voice as she moved swiftly to her vanity and grabbed another dagger.

Jay was a bit taken back by the sudden attack expecting her to be defenceless, and timid though he was trained to react taking in the splender of her home in, but a moment before feeling the flow of magic in the dagger not knowing what to expect he used his own magic to counter whatever she did to the dagger and send it to the side of him as if batting a fly out of the air. Her words rang out, but he extended the shell of his silence spell to the entire room he was strong enough words would not help his spells here at the least.

Using the fact that seeing him would still be a difficult task he slowly wove simple water spells to begin taking light in the room doubting she had been trained to fight blind such things were almost never asked of a lady whom the courts tended to oppose even rudimentary training though she clearly had that. His weapon he pulled was a small sap one strike to the head and she would surely be out for hours though his magic was clearly the more dangerous ability he had to employ.

The simple weapon showed his intent was to take her with him, and by not running he was not leaving until he had what he wanted. He stayed lower to the ground in a guarded stance blocking the only exit that he knew of to the room.

Melody watched in annoyance as her dagger went out to the side of the room and the man didn’t answer her. With her other dagger in her hand she realized she would most likely need to get closer to him, actually keep ahold of her dagger instead of just throwing it if she was going to injure him enough to get past and out of the room. It wouldn’t be easy by any means but she thought that she could manage. After all, it wasn’t every day people were prepared to fight against a princess. Usually they expected nothing.

And as the light started leaving the room, Melody took a deep breath. Her mind focusing on her other senses. Sneaking out to learn how to fight was truly going to come in handy. Yet she heard no movements. “If you’re here for jewels, you’re in the wrong place.” She stated in a hard voice. “There are no jewels in this room, not even a bauble. Turn around and leave.”

She wasn’t entirely naïve. She was aware there may be other reasons for someone being in her room but she wasn’t going to go there, not when she was aware of the weapon she’d thought she saw. Instead she was going to focus on getting out and she slowly started moving, her dagger in front of her and in a ready stance. “Just turn around and leave, neither of us needs to get hurt, I didn’t see your face, and I’m sure you’ve done something with my guards.” She growled. “I’ll find out who you are, sure, but I’ll get my payback for that all on my own. Not with fathers help.”

Once she started moving and the last light was snuffed out Jay began to silently move his breath shallow despite the spell he was still be careful treating her as a threat as she chose to get a weapon instead of call for help weaving a simple spell as his breath would be heard to her left expecting her to either lunge that direction with her knife or dodge to the other side Jay swiped his foot out the long way on her right side hoping to bring her to the ground moving to disarm her if he tangled her foot up not wanting to injure her.

Jay was well trained, and had he wanted her dead that would be simple. Even if he wanted money if he could get into her room it would be simple for him to make money that way. Her threat interested him she was not some dainty puff as most would assume. Though she had played her hand early so he would not treat her less than a dangerous snake.

Melody was, in one word, frustrated. She wasn't the most skilled fighter as she was still learning, but the petite Princess had thought that she was skilled enough to handle one damn intruder. That was why she'd chosen to fight, not yell. Well, one of the reasons. The other being that she was positive the intruder had at least decent skill in magic for the guards outside her room to not have made a stir or raised an alarm. The only choice she had now, as much as it irked her, was to try and get into the closet and out the hatch. Which would not be easy in the dark.

Melody was moving to the right when the intruder caught her off guard. "Son of abi--" Melody cut off as she felt herself falling. Her depth perception was nonexistent with the lack of light so the only thing she could do was try and take the fall without hurting herself. Landing on her back, she tightened her hold on her dagger. "What the hell do you want?!" She snapped angrily.

Jay felt her leg hook into his, and felt her follow through onto the floor he moved quick to kick where he thought her hand wound be a difficult guess meaning to disarm her without causing too much damage. His voice came from across the room making sure to keep her senses guessing knowing that would be much more difficult to get a grasp on the situation.

"I am just here to piss off the king."

Jay sounded completely honest though with magic he could fake intent though even piercing spells would sound honest.

"Sorry Princess..."

Jay sounded sorrowful as his voice came from the way of the closet his sap coming down hard planning to knock her out.

Melody yelped when she felt the kick to her hadn and she cursed at herself as she let go of her dagger. The intruder had the advantage, but at least he’d been courteous enough to answer. Was he going to kill her? Everyone knew how fond her family was of her. She was the only Princess, able to be married off as a benefit to their country and yet her father wouldn’t. Her father only wanted her happiness and now this of all things was happening.

However, the intruder sounded genuinely apologetic. Why? “You don’t have to do th—“ she cut off as something was suddenly against her head. She felt her energy being sapped until finally her eyes were closed and her body unmoving.
