This is sort of embarrassing posting musings where anyone can see, but I
thought I'd try it out and see what people thought. Plus measure my own
growth with writing/short stories/what have you. @v@;

The planet is dying, she can feel it in her core. Every step across the cracking earth resonates deep within her bones.
This is not her home anymore. The morning frost creates a thin sheen over the clear helmet of her breathing apparatus,
and although it’s an impairment to her vision, it doesn’t slow her down as she eases her way along the ravine. Equipment
from the terraforming company lay abandoned—cold steel and shipped in metal sinking uneasily into the ground like
ships in an ocean she’d only seen in books, in movies, or heard recounted in the tales of elders. She pictures a vessel
careening into the sea, and Leonardo DiCaprio being engulfed by nebulous waves in the fuzzy quality of the only television
set in their disappearing colony. Maybe it’s a small comfort: that this once thriving planet could easily be related to a
Hollywood star from centuries prior. All things must fade in time.
This was never their planet, and like the one before this, it, too, has become a shell.
Earth is only spoken of in wistful conversations and often in childish wonder of the luscious greens and blues that couldn’t
be found anywhere else.
The terraformers like her father had been paid to sculpt the planet into something they’d only admired in old photographs
and documentaries. They carried the same want and need to bend the world to do them a service when it owed man nothing.
They did not learn from the past mistakes of their elders.
Planets belonged to no man.
