Killian walked through the small port town as he prepared for his mission out into the bay to rid the town of the dreaded siren that seemed to plague the waters just beyond the cove.
Killian had heard the stories of the terrible creature and that was what drew him to this town in the first place. Killian was a sidhe, the ruling class of the faerie world, but he had forsaken a life of pomp and pageantry for one of adventure. So whenever he heard of a monster or warlord to defeat, Killian was more then happy to test his metal against it.
As the sun began to set, the town's folk quickly ran to their homes and closed their doors and shutters. Only a small crew of men stood waiting at the dock as Killian approached. "Everything prepared?" he asked as he stepped on board the ship he hired for the mission. "Yes sir, but some of the men are a little worried about venturing out on the bay at night. The stories, you know" said the captain of the ship. Killian looked at the crew, "Fine, dismiss them. If they are afraid allow them to return to their families," he replied. Many of the men quickly disembarked the ship. Killian frowned, he had hoped to conserve his power for the siren, but now he would have to summon phantasmal servants to sail the ship.
As the ship disembarked from the port Killian stood at the prow of the ship and drew out a small flute. "This will protect me from the siren's song," he said and began to play a simple melody.
