Curtis grunted, lifting the last of his things from the back of the taxi before it took off. Today was the first day of the rest of his life... he always hated that saying, but it seemed relevant today. Having finished high school only a few weeks ago, seventeen year old Curtis Smith was finally getting the taste of independence - no set times to wake up or go to bed, almost allowed to drink (even though he already had on several previous occasions), and basically just able to live a fairly relaxed life from now on.
His first move as an independent teenager, was moving out. Sure, many young adults tried to live with their parents for as long as possible, not wanting to spend money on rent and food while they slowly worked their way up their new jobs. But with his parents always fighting when they were home, and often away on business trips, it just seemed like the better option to just leave. They never really seemed to care much for him, their one good move being to give him plenty of money to move out. It was enough for a few months rent and for food and such, but he would definitely need a job soon...
Thirteen days before school had finished, Curtis had been in search of a new place. It took a while, but eventually one was found. It was a beautiful, large apartment, and housed about ten others, so rent was not too much for a place so nice. Emails were sent back and forth, although he didn't really know who he was talking too, as their email name only stated some odd words. Maybe a gamer tag of some sort was their email name? Not that he could judge, since his own email name was a lame nickname someone had given him years ago. The teen had issues finding where to change the name option, so he had just left it.
But emails were exchanged, and soon enough, he had paid for the next few months, and was invited to come around whenever he wanted to move in. Now standing on the side of the road with his clothes, PS4, laptop, and everything else he thought he might need, Curtis strode up the pathway, almost waddling from the awkwardness of holding all the bags. Eventually, he made it to the apartment, weakly raising an arm to knock. "Hi... I'm here for the apartment... I don't have a key yet..." he called through the door. He slowly dropped the bags to the ground, stretching his shoulder as it was quite sore.
