Dr. Gerard Wolfson was a renowned oncologist and the naming of the research center for him was a final tribute now almost 3 months after his passing at age 67.
Sitting on stage facing the tribute audience his widow Erica Mueller-Wolfson and her son Jason bow their heads respectfully as the bronze bust of Dr. Wolfson's likeness is uncovered for the audience of over 200 persons politely applauding.
Wearing a mid-knee length black dress with a single strand of pearls, dark nylon hose, 3" black leather pumps and a gold bracelet watch, Erica still wears the simple 3/4" thick gold wedding band but now on her right ring finger. She is sitting with her knees held tightly together and hands folded on her lap while listening to the kudos and admiring remarks that continue from the speakers.
When her time came to be recognized, the widow's words were short and thankful to all for "bestowing this lifetime honor on my husband as a great champion for cancer research and this hospital."
For the $5 million annual endowment left in his will that endears his memory to the university and medical center it certainly entitled the widow to many privileges on the campus for her and the family. Her 22 yo son Jason, by a previous marriage, but adopted by the good doctor, had recently graduated from a west coast university, but now will be serving as a deputy legacy trustee helping manage the trust and living at the family home just off campus. Living with his mother was to be only temporary and surely a challenge for the tall attractive young man.
