Yusuke Urameshi was in a fan-freakin-tastic mood! Even though his day hadn't started out quite as good as he'd been hoping for. This morning was one of those not-so-rare occasions where he'd had to deal with his mother. Although admittedly, since he'd gotten back after such a long time away she was doing a lot better than she used to... Or maybe he just wasn't as sick of her bullshit anymore. He doubted it though. Pretty much the moment she'd seen him again she'd practically begged him to move back in with her for a while. And again, it wasn't like he really lived there all that much when he did live there, so some things hadn't changed.
He might have been a little biased about his morning for the call he'd made though. While talking with the mother of his boyfriend was usually a great plus, she'd informed him that Kurama wasn't around to talk. And then she'd teased him a little --lovingly-- as he pouted about that fact. Despite that, he'd had a nice warming conversation with her. And he couldn't help but be cheered up by the way she'd palpably melted, even over the phone, as he used the nickname he'd given the woman. It had reminded him of how much heavier the reaction had been when he'd actually explained what 'Matoo' meant to him.
But he'd still been bored after not having gotten a hold of the redhead once that conversation was over. So he'd decided to look up someone else. And the first person on his list was Kuwabara. He'd been lucky in catching up with the ginger. Kuwabara was really starting to make a name for himself; and not in the ways that they both used to do as much. He was winding down and fitting in to his 'normal' human life pretty damn well. And he was working hard on a successful start.
Despite that the large, lovable oaf had some time to kick back and hang out with the former detective for a little while. And, thankfully for Yusuke's affliction, also had time for babble, light hearted shit talk, and to lose a playful brawl. The unfortunate part was that the jerk did have to get back to his own life shortly after that. Which again left Yusuke searching for something to do.
In fact, he'd been searching hard enough for something to do that he'd had the thought to pick up a book and packet of work he'd gotten from the learning annex over the course of time he'd been going. He might not be doing so great on the work portion, but at least he was attending the night-a-week classes as he'd promised. He, in fact, hadn't skipped a single one. And he'd been praised for it too.
As he was headed for his boyfriend's house he happened to notice that he was pretty close to Keiko and her family's place. The recognition was welcome. Because even though he paused and debated how very awkward and bad things could possibly go if he went to see her again after having officially dumped her and explained his and Kurama's relationship, he was weighing the possibility with school work; confusing, more boring than doing nothing, annoying as fuck school work... The choice was made.
In the end he was actually glad he went. While it was pretty awkward to start with, that only lasted as long as the conversation flow moving over to Keiko's life and the fact that she was dating again. The threat he offered toward the guy dating her was little more than brotherly. Neither really knew where they sat in their feelings toward each other, but they did have a sort of understanding. Yusuke was with Kurama now. The two of them had confessed their feelings for each other; and it was even more than that really. And Keiko... well, Keiko was moving on. Although she was as naggy as ever--mostly his fault for telling her about his schooling followed by lack of work.
All in all, things had be pretty damn peachy for a full day. And to top it off, he'd gotten home just in time to catch his fox's phone call. Without returning the greeting he'd gotten he'd babbled on pretty quickly about how he'd been out all day and had plenty to tell him about. He was silent for a long moment however once he was given some news in a tone that had him tingling straight to the bone.
It was because he needed clarification apparently. "Like, your family isn't home?" Or maybe he hadn't. "Wait--no-okay," had been sputtered out within a millisecond of his asking. And that was all that was said. He didn't offer so much as a 'bye' before the phone had been flung back into place and hung up in the process following the awkwardly spewed acknowledgement. Not that Kurama wasn't used to such a thing. Besides, it was always pretty easy to gauge Yusuke's excitement level by how hurried and forgetful he would get. So while it might have been rude and all, it was still a pretty good compliment. In fact, Yusuke had been so excited just to hear his voice over the phone he even forgot the 'hi' part too.
It was kind of weird though because Shiori hadn't said a word to him about them leaving. But it wasn't like such small details were something Yusuke tended to dwell on. It was a problem he had; probably one that couldn't be fixed. But at least now he knew why she'd sounded kind of hurried when they'd been talking before.
Anyway, that wasn't what should be on his mind at the moment. Thinking of the motherly figure was in no way helping along the other thoughts that were much more welcome in flowing through his mind as drew closer to the family home.
Rounding the corner had him only a block away. And it was then that he chose to run. Filtering out the day's event left only thoughts of the night, and nights, to come. He didn't put any real power behind the run however. It was entirely possible there was a small worry there that his particular brand of power could be somewhat catastrophic in the human world now that it had become what it was. And while he had a great deal more control over it than he'd ever had, he still didn't tend to pull much out very often. Incidentally, this tended to leave him pretty antsy a lot. And he was drawing closer to the one person who had, and just was, the best cure for that.
The moment his feet touched the porch he was pushing open the door in an excited rush. "I'm home," he called happily. "Anybody here?" He hadn't given Kurama the chance to explain that they'd already left, but from the sultry tone in his voice over the phone--a risky thing to be done when not home alone-- he'd already guessed no one other than him would answer. It had simply become as ritualistic as just about anything else he did around the redhead's family.
Despite his call he didn't stop even as he toed off his shoes as he made his way inside. Another ritualistic habit he had was to peek his head around the frame to the dining area before stepping in front of it. And with that peek came a silly, happy grin he carried around so well most of the time. It brightened when he was greeted with the sight of his boyfriend.
He made his way into the room, noticing and placing a curious look on those folders as he moved past them to get to Shuichi. A rough, gentle embrace coiled around his redhead's shoulders from behind and pulled his nose into that pretty hair so he could breath him in. An appreciative groan for the breath of fresh air was offered. "I missed you, Shuichi."
He nuzzled into that hair happily, but distraction got the best of him a moment later. As he offered a silly, slightly harsher nuzzle agains this cheek he reached out for the folders. "Also, what'sat?"
