A beautiful Saturday morning it was! Selena's hand was working along the wood grain finish of the tables, her damp rag making the worn tables shine in the early morning light. She loved the way the early rays of sunshine poured through the windows and illuminated the little sandwich shop where she worked. It was quiet at the moment, but in just a few minutes the experienced store would open up, and many people would come to have their own delicious sandwich. The little shop was nestled in the heart of a huge city, and the sounds of vehicles zooming by and the calls of waking birds and people walking along the sidewalks could be heard. Though Selena had been at school all week, she still didn't mind working in such a positive and busy enviroment on the weekends.

The old-time bell above the shop's door rang, and Selena's boss came inside. "Good morning, Lena!" he replied to her, the old man grabbing an apron and moving to the back of the shop to take out some fresh ham and turkey from the fridge. Selena looked up at the clock. Only two minutes until opening time! She didn't have a choice; Selena pointed her finger over towards a spilled salt-shaker on another table. Sparks flew out of her finger and the salt shaker was immediately repaired and the spilled salt was no where to be seen. That's right, Selena used magic!

Selena's boss, family and a few close friends knew about her magical abilities, but apart from those few, no one else knew about them. Magic had been prohibited in the land because a king from an earlier era had used it for horrible evil desires. If Selena was caught using magic, the person who witnissed it could decide the fate of the magic user. Because of this, Selena tried her best not to use magic during open hours...but sometimes it cannot be helped!

Selena walked over to the door and flipped the sign over so it read "OPEN" to all those outside the shop. A few moments later, people began to pour into the little shop, ordering their sandwiches for their morning meals. Selena watched an odd looking fellow walk into the shop, but her attention was quickly taken back to the present customer who was ordering a ham sandwich.

A rustling sound came through the trees of the town, well some of the few that were standing anyway and as he slept soundly something approached. Flapping and fluttering wildly through the sharp needles and branches that surrounded him from where he sat. Christmas was long over but the town for some reason or another still had its tree up and strangely enough it was where he felt comfortable. His eyes shot open as the fluttering creature came towards him and his hand shot out to crush it in his grasp his leather clad fingers gripping it tightly as his crystalline blue eyes shot open. He had panicked slightly, it had become his usual reaction to anything that moved about him as he slept. Slowly he looked down to open his hand to reveal a crumpled torn half of a poster. Spreading it out on the trunk before him as he parted his legs to straddle it and leaned forward he tilted his head. "Grand....grand what? He had a name, he had an address...but for what?" He said slowly as his eyes ran along it. Lifting up his finger he moved his tin colored hair from his eyes and ran his eyes over the poster once more.

He saw mention of food and perhaps it would be best to go to a place that was having some kind of grand event to get it rather than having to associate with local merchants who would only shoo him away for his odd appearance. He stood moving his fingers along his pale skin, it had a slight hue to it, as though it were constantly under a chill, his lips a soft blue and his veins showing slightly through his almost ethereally pale visage. His clothing was a stark contrast, a deep black, and ragged in contrast to his smooth face. His boots clinked softly as he stood. Turning he walked forward and to the trunk, then up the trunk before turning and walking down it the metal shank of the bottom of his boots giving a soft hiss with each press. On his way down he picked up a large black parcel of sorts. It was swaddled in a deep black cloth bound by various leather straps at odd angles as though its maker had been in a particular rush or just hadn't particularly cared about it. Reaching the bottom he hopped down and plodded out from beneath the thick boughs and branches of the large tree and walked slowly along down the road.

His eyes flitted along the street signs looking for the place mentioned as he walked. His body shifting uneasily as he did so while people turned to look at him and pointed slowly one by one. He hated jobs that took him to places such as this. His hair dye had run out and his skin had returned to its usual complexion in a matter of days and now all he had to go on was being some strange sort of albino with birth defects to get people to stop asking him questions or chasing him about. Few ever noticed the important things, like the fact that no steam came from his mouth or that he had been wearing the same clothes for three weeks without so much of a hint of a scent coming off of them. Stopping before the edge of town he looked up and down the face of the establishment in the distance. He didn't particularly fancy walking so he looked about slowly for some alternate form of transportation. Spotting an officer on horseback he slowly made his way over to him.
Slowly he removed the glove of his right hand and it began to give off the look of soft frost forming along his digits as he hopped up and touched a finger to the officers temple. The man's body seized up and he crumpled from his mount and into the crook of Dirael's arm. Replacing his glove he hopped onto the horse leaving the fallen officer who now gave off soft shuddering breaths in the street to quickly ride off and up to the main gate. A few minutes later he had gone through and past the gate before making his way up to the main entrance. Stepping down onto the coach stone before the house he gave the horse a firm clap on the backside sending it whinnying off in the distance as he made his way up to the door his eyes furtively glancing about.

Many people had come in and out of the store now, leaving with their delicious sandwiches. Selena glanced up at the clock, looking forward to her break time. "10:00 is my break time...it's 9:45...only 15 more minutes." she told herself with a sigh as she readied another sandwich for an eager customer. The beautiful sunlight that was pouring through the open windows of the little shop in the morning was now being slowly replaced by navy-colored storm clouds. The faint and distant rumbles of thunder could be heard and felt as the time passed, getting ever closer with the wearing minutes.

A strange looking fellow walked by the windows, catching Selena's attention. He looks so cold...and pale... she thought to herself, almost feeling sympathetic for the man who was now walking through the door of the little shop. "Your total comes to $7.83 sir." Selena replied to the current customer, handing them their sandwich in return for the money. She slipped the money into the cash register, a quick "Thank you sir, please visit us again!" as he left. Next up in line was the strange-looking cold man.

"Can I help you, sir?" she asked, a genuine tone to her voice.

He could sense it instantly, what she was, his eyes looking over to her and running over her form. That was not his place to question however. He simply wanted to get some food into his stomach and to make his way out when he was done. Slowly he walked up and unshouldered his parcel placing it next to the counter, it stood on its own however rather than leaning against it. Looking over to her he sighed before he looked over their menu. "Water" he simply said to her.

He ran a finger along his cheek as he looked over her his eyes trailing before he reached out and gently touched the display pointing to a particular sandwich within. "That one." He said before he turned and looked about the now empty shop wondering on how many had noticed her abilities.

Selena felt goosebumps on her skin when he looked her over. She felt as if he knew she was able to use magic. She had noticed the free-standing parcel, but being the witch she was, she didn't give it a second thought. She quickly brought him a cup of water and then looked over to the sandwich that he was pointing at. "Oh, that's our latest special, the Pruvian Pepperoni Pizza Sandwich!" she replied with a soft smile, building the sandwhich on the countertop right before his very eyes, adding lettuce and tomatoes and pepporoni and salami and all other kinds of vegetables and meats to the Peruvian style bread. Once she had made the sandwich, she wrapped it up and handed it to him. "That will be 6.89 please, sir!" she stated, waiting for him to pay.

He slowly looked over to her his eyes flashing as she eyes his parcel. He reached into his pocket and fished out a single gold coin before placing it on the counter top. Slowly picking up his parcel he walked over to the table and once again stood it on one side. He didn't care if he stood out anymore, the job was done he had things to go do. He walked his way to a table and sat before he placed the water to his lips. As he did so condensation formed on the glass and the water became a slurry as he pulled it down quickly.

Selena took the coin into her hands. It wasn't normal currency, which caused Selena to have a puzzled look upon her face. She was going to ask him if he had any ordinary money, but seeing that he looked so cold and dead...she decided not to add more to his load. She slipped one hand in her pocket, pulling out seven one dollar bills from her tips and placing them into the cash register, as well as tossing the coin he had handed her in a shelf beneath the counter. A slight sigh escaped her lips as he picked up his parcel once more. She was quite curious about what the parcel held inside. She began to wipe the countertop with a damp rag, thinking about it. He was such a strange man, with such a strange parcel.

He leaned in and ate his food without picking up his head as he did so. His food was steaming as his lips touched it though it wasn't hot. His entirety actually steamed slightly before it suddenly stopped. Standing he wiped his mouth and walked over to her. "Another water please." He said simply to her before he nodded to her.

"Sure thing," she replied, turning around to fetch him another cup of water. She returned, handing him the water. "I'm sorry to seem nosey, but isn't that parcel rather large and uncomfortable to lug around?" she asked, genuinely concerned for the customers who walked into the little shop. She had seen quite a few strange things while working here, but she had never seen something quite like this. She treated him just the same as all of the other customers, but in reality he was very different indeed.

"I've had it with me most of my life." He said in a matter of fact tone before he slowly sipped the water causing it to turn to slurry once more. Placing it down he leaned back slowly. "You're not sorry, else you'd have not stuck your nose in my affairs." He said simply to her before he stretched before gently arching back and stretching as he looked to her. His pale blue eyes ran over her slowly before he snickered. "I kwow you are curious as to whats in it...I'll let you see...if you shake my hand." He said to her slowly.

Selena's eyes narrowed slightly at his rather arrogant comment. She looked away with a sigh and rolled eyes, thinking about just returning to the counter to continue wiping it down with the damp rag, but his next statement rang in her ears. Just...shake his hand, that's simple enough...what could happen? she thought, cautiously offering her hand out to him, her other one tucked against her stomach comfortably, laying across her apron. "Alright, we will play the game your way." she replied, a cunning yet soft smile on her face, but a glint in her eye, being cautious and wary all the while. She was curious, that was for sure.

He removed his glove and the air about his fingers hissed. His hand was just as pale as the rest of him as he held it forward. The air about it seemed so slow and vapor came off of it as he slowly eached out. "Come on then." He said as he grasped her hand. It was beyond cold, his hand drew in her heat and energy upon the instant touch, it was like the chill of death creeping through a body as he smirked to her and his hand simply began to drain away at her.

When he grabbed her hand with his own, Selena gasped. That cold...that bitter feeling beyond cold...it hit her like a rock. She began to shiver, one arm rubbing at the other that was still in a shake with his hand. She felt as if her arm was dying...as if the blood and life had just been drawn out, replaced by cold and lifelessness. She tried to pull away, but his effects were already fatiguing her.

He released her hand and let it slip from his grasp as he laughed softly before he gloved it once more. "I see, can't hold on huh?" He teased before he pulled back from her with a smirk playing across his pale lips. "Its not magic with me, well not that part." He said with a soft snicker. "Thus someone like you, or even a hundred like you, can't compare to something like me, don't worry about me." He said to her before he shook his head and waggled a finger before her disapprovingly. "I don't need it."
