Act 1 chapter 1
Start of the journey
It was like every other nightmare I had. Me and a blonde haired boy in a green tunic avoiding being run over by the white horse before a man looked at us from astride a black horse. The man was in black armor, and smiled evilly at us, or rather me, before raising a hand in our direction. Instinctively, I shoved the boy behind me as everything went black.
“Hey, get up!”
I gave a wild swipe above me, missing the purple ball of light with wings above my head as a blue one bobbed in and out of my half cracked right eye’s sight.
“I said get up, lazy bones!! Geez, for someone so active you sure sleep like a corpse.”
“Oh, fuck off, puffball.” I retorted, sitting up as I let my legs dangle of my bed.
Below me, I heard the yawn of my housemate and acquaintance as he stretched. We weren't friends per se. That didn't stop us from getting along. Things just seemed clicked between us. Then again, we wouldn't have been sharing a house if not for Saria. She vouched for me to stay in the forest with the Great Deku Tree. Hell, The other Kokiri hated me more than my acquaintance.
“Okay, you're up.” the purple ball with wing said, obviously impatient with me, “Now let's GO. The Great Deku Tree has summoned you two.”
“Whoa…. I know we’re a hurry but what’s your name?” The blue ball with wings asked, knocking the purple one out of the way as she bobbed in my face.
“Firion, you?” I said, seeing my acquaintance stand and move from the lower bed so I could hop off the upper one.
“Navi the Fairy, nice to meet you.” The blue fairy, or rather Navi, said as the purple one seemed to swell, “This would be my hot-headed sister Stella.”
Stella wasn't very happy with the delay, signified by her furious and rapid bobbing in place. I really didn't care, since I didn't really see why the Great Deku Tree would want to see me. Grabbing a bunch of pouches to clip to my belt, including a Giant’s Wallet, I threw a brown cloak over my Kokiri tunic and followed my housemate outside. Being blinded by sunlight as I stepped out, I missed my housemate giving me a playful shove off the platform into our home.
“Yahoo! Hi, Link! Hi, Firion!” Someone called as I landed while rolling to look back evilly at the blonde haired boy before turning to catch the Kokiri girl who almost ran into me, “Wow! Two fairies finally came to you! Now you both are true Kokiri!”
“Hello to you too Saria.” I said, spinning around with her in a tight hug while she laughed hugging me back, “Have a good day?”
“Hey Saria!” Link called, jumping off the platform as I sat her down and decked him in the shoulder for pushing me.
“Is it true? You both were summoned by the Great Deku Tree?” Saria asked excitedly, hands clasped to her chest as I nodded, “What an honor! Go on, get going! Go see the Great Deku Tree!”
Link didn't need further prompting, he was gone before I even had time to look at him. I was about to go follow Link when Saria stopped me, pulling me up the small hill and toward her house as Stella flew into a pocket in my tunic. Saria never went anywhere with me so this told me it was very important. It was strange as I liked Saria a lot but I felt that I wouldn't see her again after today. This worried me as she was a cherished friend.
“I have something for you.” Saria explained once we were in her home, “The Great Deku Tree told me to hold on to these for you until I felt we would part ways.”
She pulled a Deku Shield and a sheathed sword from under her bed and placed them on her bed. The Deku Shield, though wooden, was actually pretty reliable. It took hits well and was almost as good as steel. Almost, it couldn't withstand flame attacks. That said, I honestly didn't really like it that much.
The sword however was something else entirely. It's design was strange but I figure I could trap a blade or two in the gaps if I needed to. A few practice swings after drawing it revealed that it wasn't weighted properly for me. Guess I'll have to get that fixed somehow. I sheathed it again with a huff.
Moving to the bed, I watched as she turned to me with tears in her eyes. We found ourselves in a tight embrace, she sobbing into my chest as I rubbed her back. No words were said, we knew that the other was thinking. It was time I said goodbye. We both knew it, and we didn't like it one bit.
“The Great Deku Tree wished to speak with you before Link. What he must say to you can't be said to Link yet.” She said after a bit, helping me attach the sword and shield to my back on the harness I wore, “Take this flute and remember me when you leave. I made it personally for you.”
//You got the Razor Sword! It’s slightly heavier and stronger than the Kokiri Sword, and it’s wickedly sharp!//
//You got a Deku Shield! II's a wooden shield that is perfect for a child. Be careful when dealing with flames.//
//Saria gave you the Fairy Flute. This instrument was crafted by Saria herself. You vow to cherish it always.//
I nodded, adjusting my new gear as Saria looked me in the eyes. There was something she wanted to say but she couldn't. Which was fine, as I took her in my arms as I hugged her again. This hug was brief as I backed away shortly after and started to leave. I understood, because I felt the same. However, She stopped me long enough to teach me her Song.
“Play this whenever you want to talk with me.” She whispered, choking up as I saw Link going ape shit on grass patches with the Kokiri Sword that was found in the enclosed area of the training field.
“I’ll be back, I promise.” I spoke, seeing her nod as her hands pressed to her chest, “This won't be forever.”
I had no idea how wrong I would be by the time this was all over. Anyway, I walked over to the Great Deku Tree’s Meadow only to be stopped by Mido. This brat I have given more headaches in two minutes then a woodpecker jackhammering it’s beak in a tree in an hour. Okay, I’m exaggerating a bit but I just really don't like him. He doesn't like me either so things were mutual.
“Where do you think you're going?” He asked snidely as he blocked me, to which I just grabbed his hair and shoved him aside, “Hey?!”
“None of your concern, Koki-head.” I replied, seeing him stare up at me in stunned disbelief as he’d expected me to shrug and bow to him, “For the record, I only listened to you because Saria begged me to.”
I left him there as I continued on my way, avoiding the withered Deku Babas as I walked through the S curves leading to the Great Deku Tree. I probably should have practiced using my new sword on them but I was in a bit of a hurry. That and I didn't really know why the Great Deku Tree wanted to see me. Something nagged at me though. Call it a bad feeling, but I got the sense I would never return to the Kokiri Forest once I left.
