[GM Text:] Alia wakes in an inn in one of the poor districts in the floating city; around her life in the city continues as usual, transients and miners alike stir and gather downstairs for the cheap breakfast offered by the Skyrat Inn. The inn is inexpensive, but Alia's purse is getting a bit light for the purpose - with only twelve silvers to her name it might be time to go find some more money.
The sounds of morning could be heard from even outside Alia's room, clinks of metalware could be heard and the soft murmor of voices filtered in from underneath the floorboards. The Skyrat was an excellent inn, a kind of secret treasure in the mining district of the floating city; built into the very side of the island with a rickety bridge and staircase separating the small patio outside. It was a local favorite and a good place to sleep and eat - a perfect 'home base' for a young adventurer like Alia and much nicer than the docks-district inns that she had been staying in previously. Through the window next to the bed the sun was just beginning to break through the clouds and the mist - it was raining but only lightly, and the sounds of raindrops hitting the foliage outside pleasant to the ear.
Once Alia stirs, she finds herself waking in her bed - her room is simple and small but certainly much nicer than most other rooms available even for more money in other parts of the city, a simple down bed with a wooden frame parked in the corner of the room and a trunk at the base for storing her meager possessions, even a mirror next to the large window that had a fantastic view outside. Since the Inn had been built into the side of the island, the view was spectacular, one of the smaller bits of earth floating a couple hundred kilometers off to the side and the occasional airship carefully maneuvering towards the docks could be seen outside, but otherwise the view was of mists and islands. Of course, other than the comfortable bed and sturdy chest, there really wasnt much else - the Inn had public restrooms and there was a bathhouse not much further down the path along the side of the island, making for a lucrative partnership and the small size of the rooms made it easier to run the low low rate of four silvers a night.
The Floating city was truly breathtaking, floating just above the sea of clouds - it was comprised of a large field of floating chunks of earth ranging from a couple meters in diameter to kilometer-wide chunks, covered with greenery and suspended with magical force. The great plants connected many of these islands, making navigation challenging between them, and on the largest island in the center, the City itself - built into the single largest sky island in the region and heavily populated like a tiny planet of its own. The Skyrat was low enough on the island that reaching the streets would be no problem and was popular with those who knew the ins and outs of the islands thanks to its unique positioning.
Downstairs, many of the regulars had gathered to eat and the many tables were bustling with adventurers and locals, the inkeeper himself running the kitchen while his son and daughter waited tables, hurrying back and forth with their customers orders. The Inkeeper, a middle-aged man of local descent named Solas was a kind and generous man - a mountain of a man who was easily responsible even among the burly miners - his head shaved bald and a great mustache on his fatherly face giving him a learnedly appearance that disguised his past - He had also always been nice to Alia, offering her a 50% rate even though she was an outsider, proud of his people's famed hospitality and quite capable of handling any troublemakers on his own. Even now he stood behind his counter, occasionally turning to bark orders to the kitchen staff downstairs or hand one of the dishes to his kids. When Alia finally came downstairs he smiled at her through his mustache "Alia! Good Morning" His deep voice startled a couple of the other guests, and more than a couple eyes turned to her when she finally walked down the stairs.
