How do you watch your anime? Do you watch it in english dub or japanese with english subs?

I personally watch my anime in english dub since well in my opinion most of the japanese actors in anime sound all high pitched and whiney as well as annoying.

Thank god for english voice acting in anime.
 
Sub first, dub later. Usually I can't stand the English because the lines sound so ridiculous. Plus English VAs cannot match Japanese for high-pitch and squeakiness, and sadden me everytime they try.
 
Japanese with sub only. I normally can't stand hearing the english dub if I've heard any of what I'm trying to watch in japanese 'cause then it just doesn't sound right. For example, I had downloaded and watched Akira on my computer a long time ago (japanese with english subtitles) and loved the gore and the story, then just recently they played it on TV with the english dub. Not only did it sound ridiculous, but it was hard not to notice how the words didn't match the character's mouths at all.
 
Subtitles preferably, if I can't get that then if I'm willing I'll go with dub; but I'll sooner forgo a series if only available in dub if I don't like the voice acting.
 
Japanese.

I think that the seiyū are chosen for a reason and I hate hearing someone put in a Southern accent instead of a kansaiben.

I Would have to agree.
Though sometimes I feel lazy and just want a dub.
 
Dubs are great when you want to watch something while you're doing something else, like chatting or drawing.

True dat cause thats what I'm doing right now. xD Plus also I just like to know what the hell is going on and I'd rather be watching the motion picture and not having to read subs. I'll go read a manga if I want to read an anime.

Good point. But reading subs makes me actually focus on the story...
 
Dont mock that japanese! They are cute.. But hmmm, i prefer watching anime with subtitles or dubed but naked on my chair with my feet up and bowl of popcorn ^^

Always subbed. I can't stand translations, and I want as little of them as possible. If a book or a movie is kept in its original form, more is perserved. Everything from small jokes, tones, hints and sometimes whole contexts can be destroyed during the course of translation.
 
On a television with the sounds turned to a reasonable level, just loud enough for me to hear, but soft enough I can ignore it if the anime is painfully stupid for a moment.

You're not going to be able to avoid that. Even the fansubs don't get everything exactly right, but they do a better job that most production companies. There are just too many cultural elements non-Japanese won't understand.

          The Japanese do it fucking better.

          There is so much emotion in their voices when they
          speak/act, it's immense. There's nothing fake
          or unreal about it, it's simply flawless. When
          it's dubbed, however ... it sounds rehearsed,
          over exaggerated and just over the top.

I remember in Outlaw Star, Trigun, and Cowboy Bebop they took out some scenes when they were aired on Toonami and Adult Swim.

I remembered when they aired it on Toonami. when u watch the unedited version, it's so much better. I like all the anime's u mentioned, they are awsome.
 
Edited anime is horrible, its like castration...

(SPOILER ALERT)

They took out the Hot-Springs episode from Cartoon Network because it was full of fan service. :\ Even though it was it had IMPORTANT shit happen to, mainly with the caster and shells, and how Gene gets that kick ass ammo for the last stretch of the show.

American and censorship, its just as bad as Japan! I mean with Japan they get away with "alot more" then on the hentai they blur and pixel out the bits. -_- Not cool.

With America there is so much censorship, coddling. Cause no one will EVER find out what sex, violence, or anything else extreme in their lives. *eye roll* Don't even attempt to give me the "They are to young" BS. >.> Freaking censorship ugh.

In anycase I perfer whatever I watch first for sub or dub.

Most animes I like dub, but that usually pertains to older animes.

As one of the oldest/older person on this forum (I assume this), I watch older anime, Saber Marionette J, Ah! My Godess, Tenchi, Slayers, Aria: Zeriam the Animation, and many more classics, the voice acting was really really good. Of course some companies do it better than others as well. Some voice actors can ONLY do one role in my opinion as well... like the voice of Gai from Martian Succesor Nadesico, not only was his quality in Sorcerer Hunters low quality, but I just couldn't see his voice fit the role of Carrot.

Some anime just fits better sub, or dub, some is good both. :p I perfer the better job done usually. Also some companies do try really hard to make sure everything fits, and the job is done well.
 
It hardly matters to me how an anime sounds, but as long as they get the concept of the story correct and didn't fuck around too much with the edits, then hey, I'll give it a chance.

Prime examples include the outright butchering by Al "Genghis" Kahn along with his shitbin of a company forever known as 4Kids. Now, to be honest, there are a LOT and I do mean A LOT of edits that either was completely pointless or not even needed.

Here's some examples for you. The Sonic X character, Rouge The Bat? I can understand the fact that the chestplate of her outfit does show off a little cleavage, but here's where I'm getting at. The shoddy edits of some of the signs in the city these guys reside in! Were there any swear words on those signs?! No! They were fictitious companies that didn't even exist! If they did, they would probably be based more in Japan than anywhere else.

Here's another chopshop edit done by these idiots. There was a scene in Pokemon (I don't know which series it was) where Ash stopped when he heard something was rolling towards him and Pikachu. Now, in the Japanese version, what we all saw was a giant rice ball - roughly about the size of a cooking pan shaped into a rounded triangle - rolling down the hill only to be caught by Ash in his arms then gives the line, "Hey, where did this big rice ball come from?"

Now for the American version. Same scene, same set up. Only difference? Instead of a rice ball, a big assed hoagie sub comes tumbling down the hill - perfectly fine at that! - before Ash catches it in his arms then says, "A giant sandwich?"

I suppose what I'm trying to get at here is if you edit a show, then edit it so that it still makes sense and stick to the culture around them. Not butcher it entirely to the point where we can't understand a damn thing that's coming out of the characters' mouths or unable to understand what's going on at the moment.
