The old ruins stood before Leona, with moss covering the ancient stone and moonlight streaming through the trees behind the ruins. This was the place...the "Monsters' Den" she had been told about in the letter.
Even a skilled swordswoman like Leona would have been reluctant to enter such a place -- even armed. The letter forbid her to bring a weapon, threatening Amelie's life if she did. Leona didn't know why these monsters would have kidnapped her lover Amelie, taking her to their secret lair...unless they had planned on luring her into a trap or something. Even if there was a trap, Leona couldn't hesitate with her love's life at risk. Even if she had to enter without her blade, she would stop at nothing to save Amelie from the beasts within.
Leona walked through ruined pillars, coming to a spiralling staircase downward at the center of the ancient ruins. She descended the steps, opening the heavy stone door that led into the catacombs. No one she'd asked knew anything about these ruins, who could have constructed them in the past or what might be lurking within now. But it didn't matter if even the biggest, most vicious monsters awaited her. If they harmed Amelie, they would pay.
