Kassy Walker sat behind the large oak desk in the dimly lit office of the club staring down at the pile of unpaid bills spread out before her. Her hands were pressed against her temples as she tried to rub away the growing headache that was starting to make her eyes throb. She simply didn't know what to do about the situation she found herself in, nor could she make sense of how something so good had turned so bad in such a short period of time.
It was only 6 months ago that all the trouble had started for the 26 year old former bathing suit model. Before then she'd been as happy as a clam in salt water, her life was nothing but peaches and cream and the cherry on top was the magnificent man she'd been married to. His name was Ben and he'd met her on a photo shoot right here in Malibu. Back then she was thin and fit and one of the hottest models on the scene and he was one of the best photographers in the biz. They'd fallen in love and soon married, shortly after finding out how desperately jealous of a man Ben was, he soon made her quit modeling. Instead he'd decided to but a Beach club and the two of them would run the place.
Everything had been great at first, he ran the business and she bartended and acted as eye candy in order to bring in the spring-breakers that filled the bar each season. But Ben loved motorcycles and it was this love of high speeds which ended up spelling disaster for their dream. One night he'd wrecked his sports bike and ended up in a coma. Now as medical bills piled up and the fact that Kassy was not terribly business minded their dream was quickly becoming a nightmare.
She kept their financial woes from the staff, which consisted of several young highschool boys they'd employed but she didn't know how much longer she could keep the facade up. This all being said the worst mistake she'd made was taking a loan from a local mobster in order to keep the doors open. She'd hoped she could pay the loan shark back as soon as the springbreak season started but after another club opened up down the street things weren't looking so good. What she needed now was a way to set her failing establishment apart from the other bars on the street but Kassy was stumped.
Kassy huffed in frustration, but a knock at her door snapped her out of her lamentation. She quickly grabbed the bills and shoved them into a drawer in the desk. "Just a minute..." She called out, trying to hide the wavering in her upset voice and wiped the tears from her eyes, smearing her mascara. "OK...come in."
