Kevin asked me to marry him, I said yes. This is it, you can’t keep texting me. This is goodbye.
Aimee Jade’s thumbs worked tirelessly on the touch screen of the smart phone between her fragile hands, her movements becoming a blur of black nail polish and pale skin as she typed what she hoped was her very last text to her ex-boyfriend. It had been over four years since she had last seen the man, having ended their relationship in a fit of anger. Since then, Aimee Jade had come to her own and found her way through the thick of life. She had invested in a house with Kevin, her now fiancé, and worked an extremely well-paying job that ensured debt would never be an issue. Her future was bright; Kevin and her had spoken about adopting a puppy prior to the wedding and after the wedding they’d try for kids. She had finally found, well planned… her family.
A smile crossed her crimson-painted lips, the white teeth shining under the fluorescent lights. “Done with that,” Aimee Jade muttered to herself, placing the phone onto the mahogany desk in front of her and letting out a soft sigh of relief. She put her head against the back of the plush leather chair, her burgundy-dyed tresses flowing down to the small of her back in gentle waves and cascading over the back of the chair. Her legs crossed at the knee, the black dress adorning her petite 5’2” frame showing off her slightly voluptuous and curvy yet taught body. Freckles lined her nose, underlining the rich blue eyes that looked out through a gentle line of black eyeliner.
“Aimee Jade, can you please get in here?” A voice called from behind the seemingly stress-free woman. Aimee Jade turned her head to her colleague’s office before standing up, the clack of her heels hitting the marble floor as she walked over to discuss monotonous clerical work and show off her new ring while discussing potential wedding plans with her female colleague.
The day went by quickly and by the time 5PM rolled around Aimee Jade was nearly running out of the office to enjoy her weekend. “Have a great weekend, guys! I’ll see you on the tenth,” she called back to her colleagues, reminding them that she had taken a week off from work to celebrate the engagement. Kevin was traveling for work over the weekend but upon his arrival back they were going to fly out to visit her family and share the great news. The weekend ahead of her was going to be great though, even if Kevin wasn’t going to be home. Aimee Jade was in need of a relaxing weekend before the festivities and planning began. With a pit stop at the liquor store to pick up a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon on her way home, Aimee Jade was ready to start her weekend right!
