Bruce was a young man in his early twenties, who was currently going to school in New England, working part time at a small book store. He currently lived in a two bedroom apartment by himself, as he had yet to find himself a girlfriend, despite all the badgering from his friends. He was perfectly happy having a place to himself, and found going out drinking with friends two weekends a month was enough socializing for him. He would occasionally bring a girl home and have some halfway decent sex, but none of them interested him outside of that. Which was fine with him, relationships were just a drain on the wallet anyway. His friends of course didn't seem to give up on it though, and continued to try to get him see things differently.
Today felt like just another wednesday as Bruce came home from school and checked the mail, however today was a large box from a friend, one that had graduated a year or two ago. His interest peaked, he hurried home to check it out. He sat down on the couch, and pulled out his pocket knife to open up the box, he picked up the note inside and read it first. 'Thought you might like this to liven up your boring pad.' the note read, and he rolled his eyes with a groan. He pulled away at the wrapping, only to find a rather tacky and gaudy looking lamp. It was mostly gold with bits of purple gems and a few smaller blue ones around it, and had a small lid on top. He held it in his hands dumbfounded, wondering just how funny his friend had found this. He shook his head and set it down next to him, staring at it for a moment before deciding to get himself a cold drink.
As he stood up, it fell to the ground and the top fell off, but he hardly noticed as he went into the kitchen. A purple mist started to pour out of the opening, and he didn't notice until mid sip of his drink as it started pour out quite quickly in a vast amount. "What... the..." He stammered in shock, wondering once again, what the heck did his friend get him?!
