“I’m going out. I left dinner in the fridge and I cleaned the apartment so you didn’t have to worry about it. If you need anything, just text or call. I will be in town.” Tess said standing in the doorway. She was looking at Cadence with the concerned face she always had on. Tess was Cadence best friend. They had met when she was younger living in California when her father was in states shooting an older 90’s movie. Cadence nodded and was sitting on her bed with her Macbook air out.
“Cadence if you need me….I can cancel and stay at home. We can order out carry out and watch movies, or we can even go out and do something fun…..you’ve been cooped up in this apartment for weeks and it’s not healthy. You’ve got to get out of this funk.” Tess begged and Cadence didn’t look at her best friend, she could feel the pain and regret.
“No, you go out and enjoy tonight. You’ve been neglecting Jeff…. you’ve babysat me enough. I will be fine.”Cadence said sighing looking up at her best friend.
“I told your father about your therapist last week…..your therapist is not legally able to tell him anything, I don’t think. I just wanted you to know I told him. Him and your mother kept calling and texting me nonstop……have you had any contact with him at all?" Tess had asked. Cadence just shrugged and her best friend groaned out.
Cadence had missed a flight that had been planned months in advance for her to meet her father in London for the premier of his latest movie. He had been working on the movie for a few years. She was supposed to escort him down the red carpet…. but she never went to the airport. She never got on the plane and didn’t have any contact. She had been seeing a therapist trying to work through her issues but so far there wasn’t much progress. She was having issues dealing with her emotions and feelings toward her father.
What she didn’t know is her Father had already flown into New York last week missing his own premier. It would be all over social media and the news that he cancelled supposedly from being sick which was a lie. He had flown straight back to his own apartment in New York to be within close distance of his daughter. He would go out of his way to get the information out of her psychologist to find out that his daughter was battling several things. Depression, anxiety and had an attraction to her father.
The therapist went out of her way to explain it was a rare occurrence but because of how often Cadence wasn’t around him during different periods of her life, it disassociated her from him…. the normal father and daughter relationship standards were not met because of his traveling and distance. She also explains it was called Genetic Sexual attraction disorder. She gave example that people tend to select mates who are a lot like themselves and Cadence was a stunning direct image of her father. This holds both for physical appearances and mental traits. People commonly rank faces similar to their own as more attractive, trustworthy, etc. than average. The therapist ended the conversation with telling him to head with caution.
A few hours had passed and Tess had left to go on a date with Jeff leaving Cadence alone. She had showered and changed into comfortable lounge clothing, a light teal PINK tee and sweat pants over her sporty undergarments. She crawled back into her bed after grabbing a bottle of water. As she was surfing through her social media feed, she about lost her breath and spit out her water. She was always overwhelmed by the popularity globally her father had. She saw one of the newest magazine covers he did. It was his posing seductively with his stomach showing.
He was gorgeous. She clicked on the image to make it bigger on her monitor. She stared at him and shook her head as she felt the emotions. If she could just be any other girl to another family, so her attraction would just be something so normal, just a crush. No…. she was his daughter, his blood. She groaned out in frustration and yelled slamming her MacBook shut with tears in her eyes. She bent over pulling open her nightstand drawer, there were so many prescription pill bottles. She opened a bottle and literally let a few pills or more fall in her mouth from the bottle before screwing back on the cap and throwing it back in, she downed the pills with water. Soon she would be tired, so she could sleep.
