It was not yet high summer in the kingdom yet already the dust was beginning to rise as the weather turned hot and dry and the days lengthened towards the season's equinox. Cerise coughed as a cloud of it kicked up by passing cart of a merchant caravan making it's way deeper and deeper into the city swept over her, adding a layer of pale brown to her skin and hair as she covered her mouth and tried to brush the stuff off her clothing before giving up and hurrying across the street before errant traffic could block it off once more.
Leanne and Ylasa were already waiting in the shade, a safe distance from the road having managed to make it across before the latest caravan had come through. Not that the two of them weren't dusty as well from their collective trek through the city, they had only managed to avoid the most recent covering of the stuff after all. It was in this state that they ventured into the shade. Dishevelled, coughing a little and covered in grime, they stepped into the shade of the awning that fronted the adventurer's guild and pushed their way through the heavy wooden door, a collective sigh leaving them as they went from the dry heat to a cooler interior.
"We have to sign in for our examinations first, sha-" "Not it!" "Not it!" Leanne glared at her two companions only to be rewarded with an indifferent glance from Ylasa and a carefree shrug from Cerise. "What? We all signed up to test today as a group, we don't all need to head up, and I want a few extra minutes to wash before we get to this." None of them were sure what the exams constituted besides the vague descriptor of 'testing suitability to the role of an adventuress' but they did know that they were expected to show up to them clean and ready for anything and the guild house did contain washing rooms for this precise reason.
Swearing under her breath, the white-haired alchemist made her way towards the counter as her friends sauntered off to wash up, presenting herself to the one behind the desk with a grumble. "Leanne Vense, Cerise Kit, and Ylasa Dunne, presenting to take the adventuress' examination."
Once the paperwork was filled out (a couple of signatures that Leanne glossed over rather than studying since she wanted to wash as well) she stomped off towards the washrooms and quickly disrobed, soaking herself in lukewarm water to wash the worst of the grit off before quickly dressing again, not bothering to dry her hair as she hurriedly to catch up with the others. They assembled before the desk again as outside the church bells sounded the eleventh hour of morning, right on time to begin, they waited for... Whatever was going to happen next. Qualified adventuresses were notorious for being cagey about the examinations and the three of them -for all their research- had little idea of what awaited them beyond some unsubtle innuendos that they'd all dismissed as attempts to mess with them.
In short, they had no idea what they were about to be tested on...
